Sigh at the cast. The only one I really liked was Ciri. Even if I am a massive Cavill fan since I saw him in Tudors, I don't think I like how he is presented as Geralt. He's too....er..clean. Maybe I have this cemented picture in my mind reading the books and playing the game.
Diversity is great, but within reason. Them casting coloured people as a character who is supposed to be white, is really just filling a quota. Here I thought she was going to put her liberalism on a leash to give this show justice.
Before someone screams racist, I'm brown. And would have loved them to unleash diversity on zerrikania. Still, I will see after the first episode before I make final judgements.
Gawd, I hope it will be good, cuz Ive been waiting for this for ages!

Still can't get over how bad the hair looks... And the armor... And everything else...
As for diversity, this may very well be a Netflix requirement at this point. I give the writers the benefit of the doubt until I've seen the actual script.
Cavill may look like the star of a cheap high school play but it MAY still turn into a decent show!
Maybe...

The chick who did the Red Woman in GoT for Triss (can't remember her name). That'd be ACE, and redhead super suits her so bonus points on that regard. One can only dream.

I've always hated the notion of hating on a project based on a particular casting or a teaser image. I would need to watch an official trailer or something more substantial to make a proper judgment.
Personally, I'm still pretty excited. Netflix, for the most part, has been delivering some pretty stellar content based on pre-established franchises, so I would like to see how Netflix interprets the Witcher world.
I think a big thing to consider though is to sadly ignore the games when making comparisons. This is most likely based on the books, maybe even a prequel to the books (heck, I would actually like to see a series of a pre-Witcher Geralt). I just feel the Netflix show is meant to be its own thing, and by comparing the details we know so far to the game, we automatically set ourselves up for disappointment.

Yeah, it's almost like the video was just a screentest and people should chill out already before jumping to conclusions but of course that's just crazy talk; its plain to see this show is pure shite in the making. /s

I'm more concerned how the special effects for monsters will be. They don't have enough budge for anything too fancy.

I still think it could work, though the cast is weird. It really wouldn’t surprise me if this is a Netflix requirement though on the diversity front.
Cavil... I still think he can pull it off but I’m kinda thinking they should have chosen someone about five to ten years older though. He really is giving me too many Legolas vibes with that hair.
I’m puzzled that they gave the slighter and (I think?) younger actress the role of Yennefer and the more voluptuous Triss. Neither of them really look the part to be honest.

I'm not saying anything new. But the cast is awful. I'm outraged. I just saw Cavill as Geralt today and it looks like a bad Halloween costume or an awful anime cosplay . And well, I agree with you all about Yennefer and Triss. Only more bad choices. Let's hope this horrible casting doesn't prevent me to enjoy the show though I'm losing hope.

It is a screen test, not the final design, so there is a chance to salvage that at least.

So, I’m trying to decide between the Witcher and Empress endings for Ciri. Any perspectives? I don’t really have strong feelings either way tbh.

Ciri hates being empress. The only reason she does it at all is for a sense of greater good. She is clearly happier being a witcher, though personally, I would much rather see her ruling a victorious Nilfgaard over scumbag Emhyr.

It is a screen test, not the final design, so there is a chance to salvage that at least. Triss looking 10 years older than Yen is no screen test. Then they have to square that with the Ciri being younger than both, when in fact she'll look close to Yen in age. It's a clusterfuck.

I’m willing to give them a chance until I see them in makeup and costume at least. Age can be very thoroughly disguised I actually think the Ciri casting looks fine. And I’ve heard the guy cast as Dandelion actually knows how to play the lute, so that’s cool.

Both have their merits. My personal preference is probably her becoming empress. Wasted potential is a bit of a theme with her, she's supposed to be an extremely powerful Source, but she's practically untrained in using magic. I suppose I like the idea of seeing her achieving her potential more than what I see as another instance of her running away from her destiny. Hasn't Ciri fulfilled her destiny? She saved the entire world! Her job is done, for now. So is Geralt's and Yennefer's. They deserve some peace and quiet. It's the ending every book reader desired but never got. So I'll take my happily ever after! However Ciri as empress is definitely for the greater good. It's a bit of a cruel ending but objectively the best for the world I suppose. So the choice is emotional against practical. Neither is bad.

The empress ending is beautiful but I prefer the witcher ending as well. I like them finally getting their happy ending and I'm not really convinced that helping the greater good will even matter with how messed up the witcher world is. I also like the theme that some simple monster slayers did far more for the world than any king/emperor.
EDIT: actually something that irritated me with the expansion blood and wine. Don't read if you haven't played.
They had Ciri call Emhyr papa...fuck that noise, it will never happen in my game again, nor would that ever happen with book ciri. Probably one of the few things they put in that pissed me off.

"Papa" Witcher ending seems best to me as well. I positively hate the bad ending, which sucks from a roleplaying as well as writing perspective. My Geralt would never resign like that, and neither would the book Geralt. I don't know what the writers were smoking that day.

Witcher ending seems best to me as well. There was no other possible ending to me: it was her true desire, and my Geralt would do everything in order to make it happen.

Been playing Thronebreaker lately. Although at first it seemed to me just somewhat interesting premise for a sidestory in the Witcher universe with Gwent gameplay wrapped around it I have been pleasantly suprised how much the story and decisions get more depth the more you advance in the game. Thus makes it thoroughbred Witcher game just as much as the previous ones. Expands the world nicely with this new perspective from the events of the books plus Queen Meve is one badass character.
The Camp where you collect companions that you can talk to makes me feel like playing Dragon Age Origins again.

I'm trying to figure out how to get back into Witcher 3 (after I play Witcher 1 and 2), but there's something I'm concerned about. Having recently played Assassin's Creed Origins, I'm a teeny bit concerned about the concept of the "recommended leveling" in the game for the main quests. The reasons for my concern is because from my experiences playing before, levelling up takes a SUPER long time, and I don't want to spend hours just going around doing sidequests and collecting materials or upgrades just to get to the required level.
So my question is this, as someone who just wants to play the main quests and maybe a few sidequests if they catch interest, is it possible to just play through the main story without having to commit so much time to recourse gathering or side quests? Keep in mind, I'm playing on the easiest difficulty, and I do plan to at least regularly switch out my gear for stronger stuff.

The main quest and "significant" side quests are more gently levelled, in my view, anyway. It's only really the Witcher contracts and the like that you can pick up while level 7 and have their recommended level be 34 (or similar).

It's only really the Witcher contracts and the like that you can pick up while level 7 and have their recommended level be 34 (or similar). That was one of the game weakest points. That and the witcher gear level requirements. I think they should have done the leveling system better and adjust it based on location, wich would have made the progression feel more natural. For example, make the Velen portion of the map be capped with enemies from level 1 to 15. Then the Novigrad and northern part of the map have enemies from 15-25. Then Skellige could have enemies from 25 to above. That way I would be less likely to be instantly killed by an archer 10 levels above of me because I was unlucky enough to stumble in the wrong bandit camp.
