This is kinda not what the post is about The post is about whether or not the game pushes the player to romance/befriend Fenris above other companions Fenris has his own theme music? Never noticed. But that's great. How can you not romance Fenris. Just the introduction is amazing as he walks down the stairs. And that voice. That face.

Never noticed. But that's great. How can you not romance Fenris. Just the introduction is amazing as he walks down the stairs. And that voice. That face. He is very captivating at first, but his content becomes very sparse and repetitive after. Forced Isabella content does not help either. Fenris grows colder and colder as the game progresses, he sits in his mansion, drinking himself into stupor and stuff. Anders at the same time runs to his clinic to heal the sick and set out milk for the cats, while being torn from inside. Anders grows warmer and warmer, and is always compassionate at least to non-templars. So, as sexy and as angsty as Fenris is, he is easy to have a crush on, but hard to keep liking, let alone loving. Well, for me. The fact that he walks out, and hooks up with Isabela with pc having no say save for never recruiting her... eww. On my first PT I was really crazy about Fenris, but ended up replaying the romance scene in Act II to switch to Anders. Then, on the second PT, I just could not stay interested in continuing it romancing Fenris. Too cold.

Well, he's a bit more complicated, what make him my second favorite romance, but I see, what you want to say: at the first (second) sight was my opinion similar to yours. He reminds me to the whole DA2: not a Love at first sight (ofc, maybe its just me), but later...

Well, I am also prejudiced, because I am really afraid/disgusted by men who are heavy drinkers (same for women) :)

Dorian mentions in passing he is going to go get drunk, but you don't see him sitting in his undies, all alone going through the cellar, right out of a bottle for a year, his house a complete mess. Dorian also never acts drunk, while Fenris tosses a bottle against the wall. If I get a cutscene like that with Dorian, I will end up breaking up with him, because... eww. Anyway, I am extremely uncomfortable around drunk people, so I don't really like this side of Fenris.

I see that from a different angle and I can feel that. He says: "It's good I can still take pleasure in the small things." This is some very positive thing. This is a halfway to the healing. I can't see the alcohol as that evil thing. Sometimes can help (sometimes you just want to forget for a moment), just yes, it's can be dangerous, I know. (But yes, Dorian have same problems...)

Well, it freaks me out, and he remains cold, distant and angry afterwards, so it's not like it is a crisis moment for him, after which he starts taking interest in life. I don't even know if he ever becomes warmer. No matter how friendly and kindly and supportive my PC is, he still walks out on her, and well, as far as I know, we gotta go kill the rest of his family before anything else happens three years down the road. The warmest I got out of him was "you are my only friend" in the end of the first PT. I am fully aware he is angst central, and everything that happens is always terrible on him, but I just can't absorb it when he is not indicating anything but embittered grief, solitary weariness, and shut-down. Anyway, it is what it is, no need to walk in circles. I like Fenris very much, just don't feel he is a central character in the game or that the game makes you want to romance him, no matter who you are.

This isn't cruel but shows Hawke's feeling too. Recommended to less patient (pro)-mage Hawke(s). (Or try soft-rivalry: this is a kind of friendship, but with more angry/sarcastic answers, and no compromise about the mage issues. This is fun challenge, and surprisingly easy to achieve the 100%.) Fenris a bit as Carver, I heard many disappointed opinions, that Carver is ungrateful. I always say, that let's try with a jerk Hawke, and perhaps you will like him...

Hawke doesn't have have him kill his sister - there is an option to stop Fenris. His sister has some crucial dialog with Fenris regarding his marks. Ah well I don't see him as bitter, cold, angsty. He is strong, fair minded except when it comes to mages whom he thinks are weak: Merrill and Anders. Bethany he thinks is stronger. I think it is in the dialog options chosen. I think the only failing is his respect for the Qun. But head cannon that Hawke persuades him in seeing the error of that. His friendship with Donnic and Varric through banter shows a warmer side. Also when Hawkes mother dies, he what the says is probably the kindest words. He respects the qun somehow, but in fact, he's Andrastian.

It has nothing to do with Fenris, but the only character that commented on Hawke's mothers' death was Aveline, and all the companions were at 100% friendship at that point. Save for Merrill, she had rivalry. I have never heard Fenris laugh, despite playing purple Hawke with an almost constant party of Fenris, Anders and Varric.

What Aveline says about her dad is very touching and sweet. Is also kind. Fenris laugh: aww you should at a least once give it a go, it is short laughter almost as he is not used to it and a bit reserved about it. Give a go to what once? As far as I know I played a funny Hawke with Fenris in the party pretty much all the time. And Varric. So... what specifically did I do wrong?

I thought you missed his laughs and smiles. Fenris humor is somewhat dry. Like Geralt in a way. Nothing wrong with not liking him. I like him. He is a great character, very attractive in his way. Just not an LI I felt like pursuing further.

(Just an advice, I don't want to force you, if you don't like. in fact, need some patient to him. This is the hardest romance, but worth it.)

Dorian is nowhere compared to him. I had a crush on Fenris. Played half way through his romance (cutscene in Act 2) and stopped feeling it. Seeing there is only one cutscene after that in Act 3 when he comes back after the Family quest, it has to be the best cutscene ever. You simply might not see in Dorian what I see in Dorian. His biggest win with me was not his romantic content, it was the dialogues about Tevinter, and feeling what he feels about people glorifying the past, without appreciating neither their history nor what they truly are, and his ability to love his countrymen despite being an expat and not feeling any sympathy for the slavers and maleficairs; and his disdain for arranged marriage/ordained livelihoods; his resentment at everyone seeing Tevinter as a land of monsters when he knows they are people, and understands the rights and wrongs better than the judgmental wholesale hating outsiders. He is "hot" because he voices every conflicting sentiment that I cannot expect anyone i know in RL to "get".
