Okay. I picked the default female Hawke, I think she looks cute and I like her voice. I lost Carver and felt bad, especially when the mother goes to him during the Ogre battle. I played and beat DAO over a dozen times, but the save I'm using is from my human mage, Jaden Amell. He romanced Leliana and did the dark ritual with Morrigan, and slew the archdemon. He did the Awakening dlc also. Talking about Amell, Hawke tells the guard in Kirkwall that the family has an estate, the Amell estate. Also the mother says that magic runs strong in the family. Are they related to the human mage in Origins? Also a lot of enemies like the darkspawn come at me at once. Luckily they're easy to defeat. I have met Varric already, Also Cassandra looks really beautiful in this game. I think she's beautiful in DAI, but I wonder why they changed her look so drastically? I chose to do the mercenary work in the beginning for Meeran. I am now in the city with Aveline, Bethany, and Varric. I really like all 3 companions and their banter. Although it's been a year and Bethany wears the same outfit? Anyway I am enjoying the game and while I enjoyed playing DAI, DA2 brings back that Dragon Age feeling if that makes sense. My only criticism so far is that I have to be a human, which I understand with the family. But I miss my Qunari from DAI.

Although, I'm guessing second cousins not first. The game engine changed between DA2 and DAI so it could mostly be translation issues. Cassandra even has a movie and she looks nothing like DAI or DA2. So Cass has had three looks Yay Meeran! Unless you get mods, all of their outfits are unchanged until story reasons.

It was a coincidence that I decided to use my human mage save from DAO. 2) Lol, yeah I know what movie your talking about. She is even cuter in it. But yeah between DA2 and DAi the graphics changed a lot. 3) Okay, I did not know that about the outfits. Now I can stop looking for armor in the shops. Thank you for your reply. As for the game: I found the will of my grandfather and gave it to my mother. That slimy Gamlan got slimier, by selling the estate that wasn't his. I am currently looking for the "Hanged man" tavern to speak to Varric. Then I'll do Aveline's quest. Also I forgot to mention Flemeth in the Kocari wilds. I forgot the drastic change she made form DAO to DAI. For a moment I thought she had possessed Morrigan. But then I remember I saw Morrigan in DAI. lol

Your companions armor, some of them, will change based on story reasons. Like someone gets promoted or gets a certain job. Later you'll be able to put runes into them to buff their base armor and Varric's crossbow, because he never changes weapons. What DLCs do you have? Gamlen has a good heart it's just buried a bit under his gambling addiction. Yes, Flemeth got a major appearance upgrade. Some folks mod DAO Flemyth to match her later appearance

I was sooo confused with companion equipment when I started the DA2. But it is actually really convenient.

CatilinaReally good arguments to be made for Gamlen. He did try to bribe their way in- he just didn't have enough. He has let them live with him in Loetown without asking for money for over a year. I know he squandered their fortune in the past but he doesn't have money or a job so this had to have been a struggle on his part. While Leandra stands around doing nothing while her kids work hard. She's 45 not 65. I love Leandra, but I'm over hating Gamlen

You can do the DLC any time. I like Legacy nearly right at the end of DA2 in Act 3, for emotional reasons regarding the family, but there is good arguments for it to be done in Act 2.
MOTA, some folk says it only makes sense in Act 1, but I think it makes sense any Act. I'm playing DA2 same time as you, OP, and I'm going to try it in Act 1 this time.
Some folk like both DLC in ACT 3 because ACT 3 is the shortest of the three acts. So it fattens that Act up.

Oh, I have no doubts, that he's terrible. But still: as you said: he let them live in his house, that was a help, what Gamlen was able to give them. He's not selfless or something positive character, but still, he helped Leandra when she needed with Malcolm, and when they had come back to Kirkwall. As I said: he's an old bastard, but I think, he knows it, very well, and feel on his own skin... He deserved it, but I can't hate.

Gamlen is probably my favourite minor character in DA2, if not in the whole DA saga, exactly for the reasons Catilina listed above. The game would be so much worse off without him. A great character who is truly human with all his flaws. He appreciates and cares about family, but he is also a bitter old man deep inside and that's why I love him. I mean it's great how he doesn't abandon his sullen act even when Hawke reunites him with Charade, even though he appreciates the gesture. I actually regret that he doesn't have more scenes. He should have definitely had a cameo in DAI

Okay, so I found the "Hanged Man" bar and spoke to Varric. He told me about a Grey Warden who knew about the deep roads, who worked in Lowtown. I followed the lead and spoke to Lirene she told me about the GW and that his name was Anders. She told me where he was and I went to the location. He was healing a patient before I spoke to him. He was skeptical at first but once I told him I was a friend he eased up. He told me he'd do me a favor if I help him rescue a mage named Karl, who held in the chantry. We went to Hightown at night and met Anders by the Chantry. He told me Karl was inside, so we went in. Karl was nearby and when Anders spoke to him, he knew something was wrong. When Karl turned around Anders saw the brand on his forehead. As Anders and Karl were speaking, the Templars were surrounding us. Anders possessed by the Justice spirit swore they'd never take any mages again. So we fought the Templars, after a long hard fought fight, Anders turned to his friend. Karl told him about the fade and how he felt it. Hawke responded saying she thought Tranquil's were cut off from the fade? Karl said he felt it but that it was fleeting. He asked Anders to end his life, because he wanted to die a mage. After Hawke convinced him he killed his friend. We went back with him to where we net. He spoke at length about the Justice spirit and how he couldn't control it. After some time he decided to join Hawke. He, Hawke, Bethany, and Aveline went to Gamlen's house and picked up some quests from Meeran, and one titled the "Bone Pit."

Almost made me want to romance him on the second PT. it being followed by the "stay away from our healer, you greedy reprobate" attack really was setting the mood too. Anders' intro is so neat. Good times.

I remember him from the Awakening expansion for DAO.

Did lirien mentioned that he's got the eyes, but never smiles? Almost made me want to romance him on the second PT. it being followed by the "stay away from our healer, you greedy reprobate" attack really was setting the mood too. Anders' intro is so neat. Good times. I don't remember her mentioning the eyes, but she probably did since I'm playing as femHawke. But she was protective of him, and Anders seems like a nice guy. I remember him from the Awakening expansion for DAO. I think she does this if you go with a funny Hawke joking with Liriel that if it turns out he also has a killer smile and lovely eyes, you'd marry him in your attempt to convince her that you have no ill intentions towards Anders.

Ah, I only went with the "we're not gonna hurt him line." That's why I missed the eyes part. Here' a few things I did last night: So after recruiting Anders, we went back to the "Hanged Man" bar to speak to Varric. A cutscene played showing Isabella fighting two thugs. After the cutscene I went up to her and she introduced herself. She told me she used to be a sea captain, and that she really got to know my Warden. Then she asked femHawke if she could help her with a duel she was going to have later that night, at a place I can't remember now.lol I agreed and we departed ways for now. I then proceeded to the back of the bar and spoke to Varric. He told me a little about himself and his brother. After that femHawke, Bethany, Aveline, and Anders went to do Avelin's quest. We defeated the ambushers which was not easy, and we went back to the Viscount Keep were Aveline's superior scolded her. After that she got suspicious as was Hawke, and she decided to see the duty roster. Another guard then stepped forward and told Aveline that the ambush site was supposed to be her route, then she told Aveline about a guard named Donnic who was going to be on guard duty solo at night in Lowtown. Well that's as far as I made it last night. I will continue tonight and write what I see and experience here.

I once read a fan comic that said, "That day I lost Carver/Bethany and gained a sister that same day." I found it very touching.

What! How have I missed this, it sounds hilarious! Well, it was my second time through, so I was taking more risque options in convos because of the meta-knowledge that Andes is as nice a man as it comes where the twice-cursed abominations are concerned and that in DA world, a girl is unlikely to do a better match than him. It might have in drill-down options, after you've spooked her, as overall I was playing a Red Mage. After that I made sure to watch for Anders' smiling, as I remember him doing that easily in Awakening. He, indeed, almost never smiles in DA2.

C'mon, he able to smile, all he needs a purple Hawke to distract him. (Hmmm, yes, he really similar than Fenris...)

I convinced Anders to grant him his wish. As for Aveline: I love her, she is my tank and has saved me many times. I also like her as a person. The Wesley death scene was sad too. Come to think of it, so far there have been so many sad moments in the game.
