"5th element" is quite a popular movie here, Luc Besson is one of our most popular movie maker ^^ That reminds me: I'm really looking forward to how Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets turns out. I always loved the comic books, and Mezieres & Besson is a proven combination. I'm really curious to see what they will do with this movie, we barely know nothing for now but I think it can be a really great project @ TopTrog Dark city, good one! I forgot to add those movies : - Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Galaxy quest : ok you guys need to watch this one XD (alan rickman, miss you forever ;_;), it's an ode to the fandom lol - screamers @ GeneralXIV Dr Who is amazing. Great characters, great concepts, very unique. I'm like a kid when I watch it.

The Thing - now that´s a real good one I forgot . The Carpenter version was the first movie I ever saw on video, the Hawks/Nyby one from ´51 I also liked, but I haven´t seen (but heard some bad stuff about) the 2011 prequel. Off-topic: If you liked the Carpenter version, you might enjoy this short story as well : link

Favourite sci-fi TV shows? I've seen many, but I can narrow down favourites - i.e. one's I've rewatched - to Stargate: SG1, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (rewatching it now, actually), and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just skimmed the thread, but I'm pretty sure other people have already named my favourite sci-fi movies. Except possibly Edge of Tomorrow; that got a lot of hate for being a Tom Cruise vehicle but I don't associate his movies with his personal life and I thought it was really good. Bill Paxton is the man. Speaking of Bill Paxton, has anyone mentioned Aliens?

People already hit most of the stuff I would name.
TV:
Star Trek - Most all of them take a season or two to hit their stride. Farscape - Sort of the same as above, season 1 is pretty uneven, 2 is a lot better. Firefly - Fox showed them out of order and didn't show all the episodes. Babylon 5 - First season is real slow, but then it gets interesting. The cable season was off. Battlestar Galactica (new) - Sort of the opposite in that it gets loonier towards the end. Humans - only had one so far season, but I liked it. Lost - Makes a good analogy for the ME trilogy in at least one way. X-Files - Creature of the week is always fun
Movies
Star Trek - 2,3,4,6, First Contact... '09-Beyond are popcorn movies Star Wars - 4,5,6... Force Awakens is basically Trek '09 for Star Wars (which was Star Wars for Trek). Aliens - completely different movie than Alien, which is also good. 3, 4 bad (although the crew in 4 was the basis for Firefly). RoboCop - Verhoeven Starship Troopers - Verhoeven. Nothing like the book obviously. Terminator 2 Interstellar - alright, alright, alright Moon
List isn't exhaustive.

In the middle of watching DS9 season 2, and I'd forgotten how solid the gradual lead-up to the Dominion War is.

In the middle of watching DS9 season 2, and I'd forgotten how solid the gradual lead-up to the Dominion War is. DS9 is the only Trek I ever watched and I only really watched it because I had a terrible crush on Terry Ferrall. I came to this realization after attempting to re watch this series on Netflix. Still can't get past the first episode... :/ Humans is a great show! I hope they are making a second season.

Not season 6, which is the one that ends with the close of the Dominion War.
If so, let's agree to disagree on that one. I thought season 7 was pretty bizarre.

When DS9 came out I watched the first couple episodes then didn't watch it again until a few years later. There are a few good episodes in the first few seasons, but seems like it finally starts to get started till near the end of 2.
In the Pale Moonlight is one of my favorite Trek episodes (that one is in 6).
edit:
Season 7 was weird

Oh, I knew I forgot something - the original V was great! Oh man, thank you for bringing V here !!!!! I LOVED THE SHOW ! I was in love for Martin (lol alien love already XDDDD) Freaking Diana killed him, I cried ;__; You guys who said V ...good shit guys, good shit. I was hoping someone would have brought up that show. The best mini-series I have ever seen is V: The Final Battle..... that was one of the series that got me into sci-fi. plus, those goddamn lizards with their voice box modulators reminded me of Garrus' voice. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Dalakaar, Killjoys...I have heard some things about it...what is the show about? also... V, the re-imagined series showed promise up until season 2 ...morena baccarin did everything she could to keep that show going...I do like Laura Vandervoort as an actress as well. Yeah the new serie wasn't that bad but Jane Balder, come on !!! nobody can beat her. Morena Baccarin was fine though. I will also name "Space: Above and Beyond" (called "space 2063" here) That TV show, nobody remember it... The beginning is slow but after a while it became wonderful (the wildcards ). Space: Above & Beyond... I have had to buy it 3 times on dvd ..once cuz I wore out the discs ( they got scratched to hell) 2nd time cuz someone borrowed it,loved it and never gave it back .....some of my favorite episodes: Butts, also the one where they were stranded and were hallucinating, the 2 episodes with the alien version of the red baron ...... I really, really wish they would have had a catch phrase..such as yelling " Wildcards" in battle.

Thank you lol ! people who borrow things and never give them back ? I feel your pain, this is why I stopped lending my DVD. People can call me selfish, I don't care. When they never gave me back my stuff, lose them, scratch them, I hate it !

Random story: One day I was watching an episode of Deep Space 9.. I don't remember the exact one...but my door was open...my brother was walking by when something caught his ear: The on-screen conversation was between Dr Bashir and a random cardassian...My brother walks in and says.. " Hey, why are these space guys talking about the kardashians?"....

I might be wrong though, if it is season 6, then that's what I'm talking about Ha ha, you're not the first person I've talked with about DS9 who's forgotten season 7. 7 is the final season, with Gul Dukat believing he is really Bajoran, getting cosmetic surgery, becoming a religious fanatic, and having a creepy affair with Kai Wynn. Also, fire lava monsters.

In the Pale Moonlight may just be my favourite episode of the series -- it's one of a few that really stand out in my mind and one of even fewer I know by name, not having seen the series in more than a decade. Season 7 was not without its gems, but... "weird" is as good a word as any.
