PSA: take Lantry with you into the Oldwalls He almost becomes essential that way... My review is finally up and published, overall a 7/10 from me. Biggest problem is I am not as enthralled by some of the writing this time around. The world is good, the characters populating it are extremely one-note. The factional politics I felt could have been better and compliment your decisions more (sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't) and ultimately, I think the games mechanics in how it plays were much more solid than the writing. Going to be a cult classic if it only gets DLC to fatten it out. Needs a sequel bad though, this world is quite interesting to say the least.

Which is why I'm glad you have the option to Take a Third Option (or a Fourth, even) towards the end of Act One. I still have no idea how people are finishing the game in 25 hours though. I'm past that and I'm maybe halfway through Act 2.

Maybe that was the point...I don't know in the end. I might need to replay it though, see if I can get a different outcome again. So busy with other work it might be a while.

So I finally reached Act 3 Am I correct in assuming: You don't get to break all the Edicts? I never resolved the Edict of Stone and I'm being told "The time to gather forces has passed" I still have a quest to unlock those last two towers, but the Disfavored are marching on Vendrien's Well, Tunon would like a "chat" with me, and Bleden Mark wrote me a very nice letter saying he's gonna kill me.

If I'm not mistaking You'll get chance to resolve all in Anarchy and Rebellion paths, but you'll need to be careful about what and when to do. I screwed up Edict of Stone in my Anarchy playthrough myself. You'll be able to unlock all towers regardless though, even in Act 3. One would be a bit more difficult with only one hint picture, but keys are symmetrical, so you shouldn't have a problem guessing it.

Hope they add an ending at least. they hyped me for an epic battle and suddenly the credits started rolling. the game was good but unfinished imo. it is Obsidian though and the internet is more forgiving toward them.

The game has an open ending. The goal stated at the beginning was to conquer the Tiers. One way or another the player does it. As an example, in DA:O the goal was to stop the 5th Blight; the Archdemon dies - the game ends, no opportunity to, say, travel to Seheron and participate in local conflicts. And epic battles happen, when the player kills their rivals at the 3rd Act. Each of them has unique environment, battle style, history and attitude toward the player. Though, peaceful approach is more satisfying, I think.

YMMV, but I for one am glad Obsidian chose to go against the trend of Mary Sue player entitlement in many modern games. It feels more believable and honest that, no matter how skilled and resourceful, a new power cannot so quickly overturn a vast empire that has lasted for centuries. Plus, part of the whole point of Tyranny is the actual day to day governing of said empire, and not just (anti)heroic adventuring.

I am happy that the protagonist wasn't a mary sue either and they didn't need to overthrow the empire in one game, but the direction they took give me higher expectations and the ending didn't fulfill it. i still think it is a 7/10 (good) game.

Anyone know why Obsidian never tried console ports for Pillars and Tyranny? Was it purely a stylistic choice, or do they not have the resources for a proper conversion? Just curious, since inXile were able to do so with Wastelands 2 and Tides of Numenera.

So, did any of you try that portrait DLC? Yes. Portraits are good (detailed and look more or less like the models). Just in case, the DLC is completely optional and one always can use custom portraits.

BTW, which faction did you enjoy playing the most?
Disfavored, Scarlet Chorus, Vendrian Guard, or Anarchy?
Personally I only played for the Disfavored and Vendrian Guard so far, I like the VG better. The disfavored are a bunch of idiots. Vendrian Guard for me. I don't see myself ever siding with the Scarlet Chorus. They seem to be largely a mob of homicidal maniacs.

Personally I only played for the Disfavored and Vendrian Guard so far, I like the VG better. The disfavored are a bunch of idiots. Anarchy, when starting from another path. This way, the only Archon with experience in governing a province (Tunon) ends up with the job, Mark keeps his position as the Court Blade, the player achieves the questionable title "Lord of the mountainous shithole" (it's a quote). The last part is the least desirable, though.
But discussing the ending would be more appropriate on the official forums of the game (paradoxplaza.com). Vendrien Guards successfully committed assisted suicide in the 1st Act (I tried really hard to prevent it). Disfavored are rather straight-forward bunch, yet Ashe was willing to break the law in order to defeat Nerat. The Legion in general doesn't care much about collateral damage or potential citizens' well being, which makes them undesirable peacekeepers for the area. The questline itself has good pacing (story, action, dialogues, etc.). The Chorus is synergy, freedom and acceptance beyond limits (way too similar to the Inquisition). Somehow irrationally, it made me want to stab the Voices of Nerat in the mask, so I broke the alliance at the first opportunity.
