Myfirst playthrough was elven female mage, but my favorite origin and playthrough is Dalish, with honourable mention to the dwarf commoner. I don't like the noble origins (dwarf and human) very much, I usually root for the underdogs

Magi Origin was my first and favorite. I think I got lucky because that origin lets you see another side to the mages that lacks in the other origins. I felt like I was changing the world's perspective of mages (becoming the HOF and an Arlessa) and the Broken Circle quest felt like a sad homecoming as well as my reunion with Jowan. I'm not sure why but his "ghost" during The Gauntlet quest affected me more than the other ones. Especially his "forgive yourself, just as I have forgiven you" line and knowing I would never see him again after I handed him over to the circle, left a lump in my throat.
They say once you experience DAO for the first time you can never quite get that same feeling again and truer words were never spoken.

You know, Origins really had great, well, origins. For us all to have such differing opinions and origins that are near and dear to our hearts just shows how good they all were. And varied.
There really was something for everyone.

Not for me. My first playthrough was the Mage Origin. I played her to be a simple person who just wanted to live quietly with nice friends, and struggled doing so both as a mage and an elf. I liked the origin story, and learning about how the circle was; it was very interesting since it was my first time jumping into the DA series. In the end, I dropped her shortly after saving Connor simply because I couldn't stand the mage combat.
I still wanted to play an Elf however, so I tried the Dalish Elf origin with a rogue class, and then again with City Elf. I'm still undecided as to whether this one of the City Elf origin is my favourite. Dalish makes more sense in having to become a Warden (premature death vs prolonged death), but it wasn't hard for me to roleplay why my city Elf agreed to becoming a Warden. The City Elf Origin may be the one for me.
I do love the mage origin though.

For me, it's hard not to let this decision be too influenced by nostalgia, but I do think my first origin is probably my favourite. It was the Circle mage origin, as a female elf. For starters, I really got into the general feel of the origin. The magic all around me, being torn between helping my closest old friend and being honest with my mentor who has been so kind and proud of me, and of course being thrown right into the setting from the start with the Harrowing sequence. I'm one of the odd people (or so it seems) who doesn't dislike the Fade. It is a very eerie and sometimes disorienting place, but I think that is rather fitting for the setting. I remember returning there in the Broken Circle quest and experiencing both familiarity of knowing the place and a lost and lonely feeling as I was separated from my comrades. Anyway, I appreciate the otherworldly feeling of the Fade as my first real gameplay, talking to spirits, meeting Mouse, completing Sloth's riddles, and finally learning the truth... I found the ending of the Harrowing to be very satisfying as I emerged victorious. And then the origin's conclusion. I remember the feeling of real, true guilt I had as Irving found us all at the end—regardless of who I "side" with, I've let someone who had high hopes and trust for me down.
Generally speaking, I feel that the Circle mage origin gives a lot of "tests" of loyalty and trust, as well as multiple interesting perspectives on the price and merits of risky freedom vs. sheltered captivity. I also think that the Circle mage origin helps with establishing a character for a player who is new to the world. My Warden remembered so little of her experiences in the outside world. So as I journeyed and learned more about Thedas, my ignorance and wonder made more sense and fit in-universe as I imagined she would feel that way as well. Though of course this could be applied to just about any origin, as each one was in their own "zone" so to speak and could often be rather detached from very different experiences that could be found in the rest of the world.
I've played through every origin but I have not finished the game with a character of every origin, only Circle mage and Dalish. Ultimately, I do feel that my favourite origin is the Circle mage (especially female elf), and it is also my canon and one I often find myself coming back to.

yearnfully I think you described a lot of my feelings I left out of my post about that origin. I also related it to a real life experience from school. I was my teacher's fav and my jealous friend went and did horrible things to advance and asked me to help her ditch school. That's probably partly why that origin is so special to me when I think about it.

My favorite is the human noble. It's the most tragic to me to and fits my headcanon as to why the warden chased after Morrigan and his son.

My first PT was female Human Noble. She is waaaay down on my list, something about the Noble storyline that bored me. I always view the fist PT of anything as more of a test run anyway, they are never my 'canon' and mostly throwaways while I learn the choices.
My favourite is the female City Elf, she came along a lot later. Loved her choices and her end point.

For me, I started a femSurana, but didn't like the way she looked. So I restarted and made a Cousland. While she isn't my canon, my final playthrough of Neala Cousland is. A close second would have to be femAmell. That's almost what I did... My Surana made some bad descions at first, and I didn't know how to get Alistair's approval, so I deleted her, and make another Cousland, who got Alistair's approval up to about 50... Pretty much what I did was fail for the first of my playthroughs until I got the control on how to do things ... My first character to defeat a Archdemon was a female Cousland though (and she had Alistair's approval), and than I decided I didn't like the way she looked, nor did I like her armor choice, and than I made another and final Cousland (Angelica) who become known as Queen of the Dragon-Slaying (she defeated Flemeth and the High Dragon at Haven). So that's basically what I did at first, which is remake characters (my first Amell got a remake due to her accidentally hardening Alistair and than being his mistress - that was not my goal).

My first run through I was a human, male, mage. And so far, that is my favorite. The city elf origin (my current) has been interesting, but it didn't feel half as good as my first run through with a mage. I can't really say there were any decisions I made that I was proud of. My first run through was on the 360, so I exploited the bug where: you can unlock blood magic, get the pleasure ending, and save the kid I can't remember any other notable decisions that character made. But if your curious, feel free to ask.

I've played through all the Origins, but only ever finished the game with a Mage. My first intro to the game was the Cousland origin, and it was pretty hard-hitting emotionally. That was when I knew I'd made the right decision to pick up Dragon Age My favourite overall is still the Mage origin, but Human Noble and Dwarf Noble are probably my next favourites.

My favorite Origin is the Dwarf Commoner, but my first playthrough (and favorite character) was a Human mage. I reaaally prefer using magic during combat, which is why I chose that origin over the others, but I'm a huge admirer of the Dwarf Commoner.

Yeah, the Human Noble was my first Origin and remains my favorite. I know compared to the others it's a tad cliche, but I found it an the way the characters interacted with that Origins entertaining.

I tend to switch between my favorite origins. My first was Cousland, and it was definitely good, but I also love the Dalish and mage stories too. If I had to pick, I think I'll go with Dalsih. there's just something about that story that I really love.
I think ALL the origin stories are really good tbh.

City Elf has always been my favorite and it was my first one as well. But I had chosen to go with city elf long before Origins even came out. I was following the release pretty closely.
Second favorite was Cousland.
I actually hate the Circle Mage origin. Even though my mage ended up being one of my favorite characters. I think the whole Broken Circle quest line just makes me hate the Tower. Thank god for the "skip the fade" mod on pc.
Both of the Dwarven Origins are pretty fun.
The Dalish one is shit. Hard to choose which I hate more, Dalish or Circle Mage.

Just completed my first run as a Cousland Warrior before starting into my new Mage one and I gotta say it's my second fav! Discovered something new at the Landsmeet. I wish I could put an arrow through the eye of the guy who always votes for Loghain. Not because he votes for him (I love Loghain) but because he basically said I was a spoiled brat trying to act big when I was debating with Loghain!

Though not my favourite, I loved the Dwarf Noble origin so much I wanted a whole separate game about Orzammar with that character. Wear fancy armor, fight Provings, beat up dusters, run around in the Deep Roads, repeat.

The first time I ever played was as F-Surana.(?) I did start the City Elf story but didn't get far. I also started a Character as F-Cousland, got as far as Ostagar before stopping. My Canonical Playthrough was F-Amell

My first origin was a female City Elf rogue
So in order of my preference: 1) Female Cousland (i thought her family brought a real depth to the origin story) 2)Female Tabris (again, i liked her supporting characters, Shianni's one of my favourite minor characters in the game) 3)Male Aeducan (It's like this, i'm a Game of Thrones fan...My male Aeducan is so far the only one who wanted to be a Grey Warden) 4)Female Brosca (My girl just wants out. Paragon or bust!) 5)Male Mahariel (dull, Dalish are snobs and even Merril's not Merril yet) 6) Mage, Amell (just can't stand Jowan, Lily or anybody in the Circle really. Now if Anders and Finn had been in the story things might have been different, but alas all the interesting Ferelden mages are missing...)

If I could pay to have the experience of playing Origins again for the very first time, I'd probably never buy another game. Also, DAO does a great job of pulling you in and getting you highly invested in your Warden's journey right from the start. I'm not surprised you're already 20+ hours in.
