Just saw episode 3 Personally, I think that they should've focused a bit more on Blake and save Yang for episode 4, but still, a pretty good episode overall.
Also, I'm starting to think that Faunus can defy physics. Maybe they took lessons from the horses of Skyrim?
>_> A rather short and sweet episode; Black Sun may have saved the ship... but their ship seems to be sinking, if her irritation at his tagging along seems any indication.
I did like that they eschewed expectations and made Yang unwilling to accept a prosthesis, because she's still not come to terms with the loss of her limb. Was realistic that she wouldn't immediately bounce back from it right away... as if bolting on a new arm is enough to "fix" the injury and confidence she lost during her fight with Adam.
Another nice dose of realism was learning that despite Remnant (or at least Atlas) having advanced robotics, those kinds of replacement limbs are not common. It took Taiyang calling in some favours and Ironwood pulling some strings (which is a rather touching gesture) in order for it to be made.
Mercury's legs can probably explained by how back in Vol 3, Cinder mentioned that his father was an (in)famous assassin... and presumably whom she originally intended to hire. We saw that Mercury's natural legs were injured during the fight where he killed his father, so it could be that afterwards, he used his father's money from contract killing to replace them... or Cinder bankrolled it instead, in order to earn his loyalty.
As for Ironwood, obviously the Atlas military paid for him to be put back together... after whatever it was that happened to him?

I don't know about that, tbh (I prefer referring to Blake/Sun as Eclipse, myself). Seems like Blake is one of those characters that will take a while to accept anyone in that way due to her backstory. She maybe seem to be irritated by Sun's antics, but I think, deep down, she appreciates that he makes light of most things.
As for Sun himself, he probably acts like he does just to get Blake to smile. At least, that's how I see it.
And Yang... I can't really blame her for being haunted by what happened with Adam. I've always felt that she represented the heart of RWBY as a team, and the fact that she couldn't protect Blake, who is as much a part of the team as Yang, weighs heavily on her, as well as the fact that she failed so horribly. It could possibly lead to serious emotional problems later in the volume.
For Mercury's legs, I always figured that Cinder handled getting them.
With Ironwood, I really want to know what happened to him to require half of his body to be replaced. It's one of those things that has no real explanation and, imo, probably should.

It can't have helped that Yang likely has abandonment issues, stemming from her childhood.
Yang reveals in Vol 2 she hasn't really come to terms with learning that her real mother (Raven) left the family when she was young. She implies she had a great relationship with Summer (who she refers to as a "Super-Mom"), so she was probably just as devastated as Ruby was when she died.
At the end of Volume 3, she sacrificed her arm in order to try and save her best friend on the team, who repaid her by running away without saying anything. With the fall of Beacon, Weiss left for Atlas, followed shortly afterwards by Ruby running away to go hunt down those responsible for the fall of Beacon.
Without Team RWBY around her, Yang hasn't got any real support structure or anyone to talk to about her problems. We can see that Taiyang is trying his best to help and be supportive, but she's a teenage girl and clearly doesn't feel comfortable discussing her issues with her father. She has no-one to vent at, so her problems continue to get bottled up inside her.

That is true. I hadn't really thought about that.

Anyone else bothered that the 6-8 month timeskip is kinda ignored sometimes? Like, Weiss' brother and father talk like she just got back to Atlas, not that she returned months ago.
Or how it took Blake that long to find a boat and Son has been stalking her for all that time...

Or how it took Blake that long to find a boat and Son has been stalking her for all that time... It's possible that not all events in Vol 4 are happening at the same time? Weiss and Blake's storylines might be taking place earlier in the timeline than Ruby and Yang's.
In Chapter Two, Weiss' father is furious that the Council's embargo prevents them from exporting to other Kingdoms. Yet at the end of Chapter One, Nora mentions that they were able to restock on ammo thanks to the Schnee Dust Company.
Either local dust distribution in Mistral hasn't been affected despite the loss of dust being exported from Atlas, or the sanctions might have been lifted by the time Team RNJR's storyline takes place? It's obvious that Jacques Schnee's real motivation for wanting to put on a charity event was to convince the Council to resume trade, so assuming it goes well (or Team WTCH are prevented from screwing with it), that might be why Team RWBY don't seem to be hurting for dust.
Blake and Sun's storyline similarly doesn't have any indication of when it takes place.
When Blake yells at Sun for following her, she doesn't add "for months" at any point, which would imagine that she would have? He doesn't speak as if her running away following the fall of Beacon wasn't that long ago either, only stating that recently the Grimm attacks have been "getting worse" to indicate some time has passed.
Sun doesn't really have the personality (or patience) to follow her incognito for months without revealing himself sooner, especially when he admits his reason for tagging along was to help her take down the Fang, which he thought she was planning to do.
So these plotholes could be because we're dealing with multiple timeframes at work... or the writer's are simply forgetting it's supposed to be several months later, as you suggested?

So, you guys have seen episode 7, right? Right?? Yup I predicted Tyrian would lose but poison Qrow at the end of last week, so no surprises there. I was surprised by what happened with Weiss, but I think I'm most curious about what's going on with Ozpin and this Oscar lad.

I'm not 100% whether or no Qrow actually was poisoned. But a common theory I've seen is that it was a debilitating poison rather than a lethal one (I mean, he was tasked with capturing Ruby, not removing her from the equation). I suppose we'll see one way or the other soon enough.
As for Weiss, I'm not really surprised at all, though my disgust towards her father has reach new heights. I did always feel like something was off about Whitley, but I wasn't sure what. Now it's out in the open, and I have to say, I see quite a bit of Bhelen in him.
The whole thing with Ozpin and Oscar is interesting. Hopefully things will be cleared up later on, because I want to see what specific role Oscar will play in regards to RNJR.

I will say I was mostly surprised that Weiss' situation escalated so quickly. I had expected those tensions to simmer a bit more.
I expect the poison will either be only debilitating or they'll find an antidote. They wouldn't kill Qrow, not yet anyway.

Vol 4 Chapter 8 definitely clears up some things about Qrow; If his semblance is creating bad luck around him and it's permanently active, that explains why he didn't want Ruby to enter the fight with Tyrian. It wasn't him being over-protective of her or doubting her abilities, he was more concerned she'd be affected if she got too close to him.
And going back into tinfoil hat territory; It further supports the popular theory that Qrow is Ruby's real father, especially with the noticeable pause and glance at Ruby that Qrow does before he utters the word "family".
If Qrow was with Summer and got her pregnant, he could have left because he didn't want his constant misfortune spilling over onto her and Ruby. It would explain why he's so critical of Raven's abandonment of Yang, because he believes that unlike him, she had a real choice over whether to stay with her family and she selfishly decided not to.
Detractors to the theory often ask why Summer would cheat on Tai... but it's never been confirmed they were actually together, or at least not initially? We're only going by Ruby and Yang's assumptions about them, which we should remember, also included Yang for the longest time believing that Summer was her mother.
It would be understandable for Summer and Tai to take solace with each other. Both were now alone to raise young kids after both the Branwen twins left them suddenly and without any real explanation. Tai definitely has shown signs that he isn't all that fond of Qrow, which if the theory holds true, would definitely provide him enough reason to hold a slight grudge.
As for the counter-argument, people do often mention that Monty supposedly squashed the rumour in a tweet, but the tweet often cited only debunked the "Yang was Summer" theory. He did state in that tweet that Ruby and Yang are half-sisters, which I suppose can be seen as confirmation of their relation, given that the Qrow theory posits they're actually cousins.
It's also true that Miles has refuted it in a Livestream, casting further doubt on the theory... but then again, when has any showrunner ever gone about spoiling huge reveals too early, by admitting that the fans figured it out years ago?

I've been wondering about that myself, actually. I mean, if everything we know about Ruby and Yang's family is accurate, then Qrow and Ruby aren't really related, yet, Qrow is much closer to Ruby than he is with Yang (maybe because he knows how much like Raven Yang is, but then, we may not find out for sure either way). Maybe it's as simple as Qrow teaching Ruby how to fight using a scythe, which resulted in them having a deeper bond.
As for why Taiyang and Qrow don't exactly like each other, it seems to me that their rivalry stems back to their days at Beacon. Besides, Qrow saved Yang and Ruby when they were young, and the only reason why he didn't help Yang or Ruby during the battle of Beacon was that he was fighting his way through Grimm and Atlesian Knights alike (maybe even White Fang, but we only saw them at the Academy). So, really, he's there when it counts, which is more than can be said for Raven.
I suppose we'll find out one way or the other eventually.

I suppose we'll find out one way or the other eventually. Ruby and Qrow do have a lot of similarities, not only in their weapon of choice, but their scruffy black hair, slightly impulsive personality, clothing that features a cape and a cross, as well as a prominent red/white/black colour scheme. Their musical cues are the same as well, as " Qrow's theme" is a slowed down version of " Red Like Roses". I suppose we could chalk the hair colour thing up to coincidence, as we know that Summer did have black hair. The similar clothing styles and colour schemes can be explained as Ruby basing her look on Qrow, since she mentions in the first episode that he was her mentor and she's shown throughout Vol 3 to clearly idolise him. Still prefer the theory though, since it adds a layer of further complexity to Qrow's character.

This theory actually occurred to me while I was watching the episode, but I remain skeptical. Too much of what's similar between them and their close relationship is easily explained by him being her mentor. Beyond that, she looks like a clone of her mother with some red. It would introduce some additional layer of family drama, but I don't think it would actually add much to Qrow's character that isn't already added by his semblance, just enhance it. It seems like a bit much.

I know that everyone wants Yang to return the firecracker she used to be.... but does anyone else find the quiet, introspective and extremely dressed-down Yang far more attractive and way more interesting of a character?
While I enjoyed her character in Vol 1-3, her excessively extroverted tendencies did sometimes go a bit overboard. It also unfortunately served to give her the false appearance of lacking much depth, hence why Emerald refers to her at one point as "the bimbo". Her conversations about her mother and motivation for becoming a huntress clearly that there's far more to Yang than she lets on, which we're finally seeing due to her facade falling away in the aftermath of the events of Vol 3.
Her arc in Vol 4 has been the most interesting she's ever been (at least to me), even though she's been utterly miserable for most of it, since it's finally given her some plenty needed character growth and evolution.

I always felt that Yang was a great character, but it is nice to see her get some character development (tbh, I think both her and Ruby were lacking in that area until this point). To me, it felt that while she may seem very carefree and OTT, she truly does care for her friends and family and is always ready to defend them regardless of the situation. I think that Taiyang teaching Yang about the flaws in her fighting style will help her develop into a more methodical character, but I doubt she'll lose her out-going nature. Honestly, at this point, Qrow is my favorite character, with Yang now being my second favorite. Anyway, what do you guys think of the latest WoR?

I'm just happy that Ruby and Yang are finally starting to get some character development. They've both been rather stagnant for the first few volumes. Though I'm actually most interested in what comes next in Weiss and Ruby. Will Ruby and Jaune run into Raven's bandit clan? Do they have a Grimm on a leash? Where is Weiss planning to go? Is she gonna meet up with her grandfather, Santa Schnee (Who I am convinced is the creator of Penny), to scheme to get back her inheritance? Or will she head to Ironwood for the time being? Let's be honest though, we all know who stole the show in this episode:

So, is it obvious to everyone else that the wizard, last king of Vale, Ozpin and now Oscar are probably the same person, passing their aura through the ages to a successor?

It's not a guarantee for the last king of Vale, but for the Wizard, Ozpin, and Oscar it's been all but outright stated that they're the same person.
Current thinking is that the last king of Vale was the incarnation of the Wizard before Ozpin, Jaune's ancestor, or both.
I think that him being both Jaune's ancestor and the last incarnation of the wizard before Ozpin would be the most interesting, since it would give more reasoning as to how Ozpin saw Jaune's potential for combat and leadership, and would make Jaune a bit more unique among Ruby & Co.

Ozpin did talk about creating the schools to Oscar, didn't he? Also the WoR mentioned the king having a notable "scepter" that I think looks a bit like Ozpin's cane. The Jaune connection is less clear, but it would be interesting. Also, a cool mashup I just found:

Not everything is outright-stated at the start, and the show doesn't go out of its way to explain it in the episodes themselves (since the characters likely know everything they need to know already, and the stuff that is revealed, isn't common knowledge in Remnant to begin with). I don't get why people hate the World of Remnant videos, honestly. I mean, yeah, they take the place of full episodes, but they're giving us info about the world that the characters already know, which would only making things a bit jarring if it had to be explained in the show itself.

Regarding the the bit about Jaune: The more I think about it, the more I'm not inclined to think that Jaune is descended from the king of Vale. It's an easy jump to make, it explains why Ozpin might let Jaune stay despite being clearly unqualified for Beacon, but being descended from one of the greatest heroes of Remnant's history seems like something that would have come up.
It also looks like the king used his scepter and sword exclusively, not a sword and shield (Granted, he could have had it collapsed into a sheath) while it looks like the sword and kite shield were standard issue amongst Vale's forces during the war. So I suspect that Jaune's great-grandfather was of high rank and possibly a personal friend of the king, which would also explain Ozpin allowing him to stay.
