Curious what shows you suggest to watch after finishing Rick and Morty.
Shows I've tried: Bojack Horseman (Didn't get far) Futurama? (Watched it waaay back when, haven't seen any newer episodes) Family Guy (Meh) Frisky Dingo (IMHO The top contender if you're in the same boat as me, but I've watched it a million times) Venture Brothers (Didn't get far) The Simpsons (I liked it in the early 90's... sort of) Archer (waiting for new season, getting sorta dull though) Aqua Teen... (No.)
That's it off the top of my head.

Venture Bros Venture Bros Venture Bros Venture Bros
If you grew up on Hannah-Barberra cartoons you'll fucking love it. It parodies all those old shows by trashing the tropes they all carried. With each season everything improves, especially the animation. Don't ignore this series.

Bojack Horseman is really good, as it goes on though it really embraces the darker themes that Rick and Morty only touches on, and it leaves out some of the comedy.

Samurai Jack. They've brought it back and it's darker than before. You can watch it for free on watchcartoonsonline.com
In fact, you could check out all the episodes you missed with Futurama if you'd like.

I was a big fan of the original series, and I'm so glad they brought it back. Even more, they....I can't spoil it. But I want to talk about it so damn badly. Even still, this should fill that hole of yours.

You should watch Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law if you haven't already. There's also Mystery Science Theater 3000 if you're not strictly sticking to animated shows. But you know, fuck it

Bojack Horseman does get better. If you only watched the first couple of episodes, it might be worth giving it another try to see where it goes. The beginning is weak. I can't speak much about season two, as I'm still watching it.
If Futurama isn't your thing from the original run, there's no point in watching the new seasons. I love it, but if you didn't like the first four seasons, you won't like the last three.
Gravity Falls was mentioned by someone, and I'd echo that it is a lot of fun to watch. Like Bojack Horseman, I'd also add that it is slow to get going. The first five or six episodes are mostly sorting out who the characters are, but once they do, the show comes together really nicely. It has a two season arc that arrives at a planned ending (that they didn't extend, making it somewhat rare in western animation.)

Well, it's not animated like the rest of the list, but everyone should watch at least the first season of Community.

If you're into the wacky, improvisational aspect of Rick and Morty as well as the overall Dan Harmon-ness, check out HarmonQuest. It's an animated pseudo-D&D game with Dan Harmon and his friends. The first episode is up on Youtube, but the rest needs to be watched on Seeso/Amazon Prime or via...alternative means.

I should add that Venture Brothers also comes together better after a few episodes. It's not so much that the first few episodes are weak, necessarily, but the odd combination of tone and theme is very unique and different. I found myself not really getting the humour right away. There were some parts that were clearly darkly funny, but it took me about three or four episodes to really understand the subversive satire they were going for.
In many ways, Venture Brothers is the comedic satire approach to the same subject matter Allan Moore explored using dramatic satire in Watchmen. It's not as laugh-out-loud funny as Harmon's comedies or the Simpsons, but the less frequent moments of strong humour are strung together with carefully plotted clever satire. It still may not ultimately be what you're looking for, but it might be worth revisiting for a few more episodes.

I'm glad to hear that, Jeremiah. Someone with excellent taste had me watching the first episode of Venture Bros with them, and I didn't quite "get it." Maybe I'll keep going and see how I feel later.

It's definitely a different kind of show, and probably not what most people would be into, but I'd say it's worth watching a few episodes to find out.
For me, the standout ended up being the Monarch, who is ostensibly the show's antagonist. Considering the show's tendency toward dark and satirical humour, it probably makes sense that the "villain" would end up being the most interesting character.

I detest the scientist guy, the dad, on a primal level. In a way, that's part of why it took me a few episodes to really start to get what they were doing. While Brock is likable, it is primarily on the basis that he fits the easily likable mold of the hyper-competent hero. Beyond him, the "heroes" are by and large a detestable bunch. The titular brothers may be sympathetic, in that they are innocent, but they have few qualities. By contrast, Doctor Girlfriend is extremely competent, as, at turns, is Monarch. His henchmen even display a greater consistent basic level of competence than any of his foes or rivals'. He and Doctor Girlfriend consistently display greater moral complexity than the heroes that they fight, especially when it comes to how they treat the henchmen that work for them. I can't really say much more without getting into spoiler territory, but let's just say that nobody (other than Brock and the robot) worked for Doctor Venture long enough to become a major character, but Monarch had henchmen who remained characters throughout the entire series. But even that is kind of a simplification, because it isn't that the villains are more competent (though they seem to be) because the villains don't ever really seem to experience much success. Any competence is always undercut by the deeper failings of the very concept of superheroes and supervillains. Much as Allan Moore postulated in Watchmen, anyone crazy enough to be a superhero or a supervillain is... well... crazy. Definitely the last people you would ever want to take those jobs would be the very psychos crazy enough to do that for a living. #EarningMyTwelfthLevelGeekStatus
