This honestly was one of my favorite parts of the story and I'm amazed it wasn't more tied to the Critical Path. Lot's of cloak-and-dagger stuff going on. Still don't buy Cora's "I was raised on a freighter" story. There is NO way the writers are THAT bad, to give her the name of Harper with no connection to the Illusive Man. Right??? Reading Cora's back story was one of the first thing I did. The whole poor parents on a freight story was laughable, I was positive it was a cover story. I suspect she will be trying to escape her father? Brother? and his organization by coming to Andromeda. I also heavily suspect that the Benefactor is either a clone of the Illusive Man or Cora's sister/mother who will actually be present in the Andromeda Galaxy.

I absolutely don't think that a Secret Benefactor is someone from Cerberus. He wouldn't give a damn for aliens well being in that case. As well we seen a few Cerberus defectors in ME:A, who despise Cerberus for various reasons. Couple of them despise Cerberus due to Illusive Man not being evil enough in doing pointless, dangerous and evil experiments on aliens. So, I doubt severely he or she is part of Cerberus. Maybe connected to them, but nothing more then an associate. Depends how it plays out. Reading the book, I am starting to wonder if their wasn't some deliberate sabotage occurring leading to Tann becoming Director so the Nexus would fail. Humanity so far is the only one who has established a permanent full blown colony on Meridian. The other arks have faced major issues in some cases internal sabotage (salarians). Cerberus may have backed the project for humanity and had plans in place to undermine the other species and establish human dominance in Andromeda. There will be sleepers planted (still suspect Addison may have some ties), they may have others hidden among the frozen population.

Cerberus had no way of knowing the Scourge and Kett are in Heleus Cluster. Nexus and all Arks, including Hyperion, had disaster with both of those things. Hyperion lucked out because Alec Ryder was able to use Remnant tech and free Hyperion. Also nobody knew about Meridian until Ryder talked to Angara. At best, Geth discovered the Dyson Sphere like structure as they themselves were trying to build something similar. But even then, nobody knew it was a Golden World inside it. Cerberus really would have needed some serious guess work about this stuff, which would have been very contriving on writing part.
