I wish he were a bit more useful or...even barked more during scenes to indicate some sort of opinion. I've wanted to play a character that would take him everywhere, but still so many things I haven't seen.
I will admit to learning that Dog really hates being in Orzamarr.

Yeah he's nowhere near as good as the otheres. If you're on PC, download the fifth dog slot mod from Nexus mods. Then he can take some aggro. Also, put him in your party of 4 when you're in Denerim or Orzammar. Your companions will have dialogue with him. Loghain has 2 and they're heartbreaking. That. Thats awesome. Its so freaking anoying how you can't break out of an overwhelm situation. Giving that back to the NPC's sounds like just a great idea to me. Actually, you can freeze the enemy doing the overwhelming, and that will break the condition. I stumbled on to that with a spider basically first time through, which saved me a lot of headaches.

Dog exists so I can love him and he can [happy bark].
Also to be a noble steed for my dwarf Warden and to steal Morrigan's underpants.

You can buff his critical chance by using 2 Rogues with Song of Courage.
Maybe not well known-a Ranger can summon a Wolf who can overwhelm at Level 7. Dog takes a much longer time to learn that skill.

Definitely Extra Dog Slot, just turn it off before Rescue the Queen because it messes with the Captured! quest.
Dog always loves you, even if you are the biggest asshole on Thedas and murderknife everything that moves. Dog is perfect.

Dog will never lie to you (Morrigan), leave you (Alistair), creep you out (Leliana) or try to kill you (Wynne, Sten, Zevran, Oghren, Shale, Loghain - am I missing anyone here?). Therefore, he's the best companion in DAO. These are all undeniable truths,i think the only character that come close to that is Varric. My problem with the dog is that they said he would be a full party member, but he barely has any interaction or action, no Fade nightmare, the Guardian of the Urn doesn't acknowledge him, and so on. Him not being there for coronation or eulogy, and not having an epilogue of his own, fits in with that overall letdown. Poor loyal puppy.

Maybe the Guardian doesn't acknowledge Dog because he's the only one in the party with zero regrets or baggage to speak of?
Witch Hunt does make up for how Dog is largely forgotten in both the endings and doesn't appear in Awakening, by revealing he was put out to stud and was busy repopulating Mabari kennels across Ferelden.
(I headcanon that the Mabari that Cullen adopts in Trespasser descends from one of those litters, making him Dog's grandson)

If you are playing with the extra gore setting, Dog will lick you clean. Is THAT what he does? I thought I was telling him to eat all the dead bodies of my foes and couldn't understand why the bodies didn't disappear. I thought it tied into the camp banter about how maybe he'd eaten a human already I say that, and then have to admit that when he licked the sacrificial shrine in Haven. I was quite disturbed.

Haha, yes, somewhat disgusting. Still with the amount of darkspawn blood he has imbibed by now he must be a fully joined Warden.

Still with the amount of darkspawn blood he has imbibed by now he must be a fully joined Warden. The Dog essentially is joined in most worldstates (except Human Noble), because his blood was tainted when his former owner was killed by Darkspawn. The flower we got in the Wilds seems to allow Dogs to survive long enough to undergo their version of the Joining, but like a Warden, we're told the corruption will eventually claim him. The Wardens knowing of how to put animals through the Joining actually makes way more sense following Last Flight. The Wardens would have been smart enough to experiment with a lot of other creatures to work out the kinks first, prior to testing a new form of Joining on their prized Griffons.

But if you let Dog perform the killing blow I suspect it will not work? Do Mabari have "souls"? Dog is clearly neither a ghoul nor a darkspawn. Would Dog be more like Morrigans "foetus"? Is the egg really implanted in two days? So many questions and so little life!
