At least the new omni tool has some textures and not just a giant yellow block of shit.
But this is the bsn, everyday somebody whines about some insignificant, irrelevant feature.

Yup. Just one of the many stupid design changes.
It now looks like a Wii U controller that lost a fight with a wood chipper.

...Has this really become a thing people actively dislike? I mean, I can understand if you prefer the older look , but something this relatively minor being a major gripe? Ah well, ya'll do you. Opinions and all that. I just don't get it, personally. It's not 'relatively minor'. Imagine Star Wars film where all the lightsabers are becoming like one of these: It takes magic to invent&create the 'iconic' and unique stuff that would be associated with the setting. Omnitools are like that for MEU (or should I say 'were'?). BW know that, EA know that, it's been on ME merchandize for ages - as part of the Shepard figurines, as prints, as a stand-alone cosplay item. You don't fuck with things like that. If you're lucky to have those 'iconic triggers' - you exploit them best you can. You care about them, because customers care about them too. They've done it with 'N7' (which makes no fucking sense, at all, zero, NO ONE is eligable to wear that insignia, not even Ryder Sr.). I have no idea what were they thinking. Probably it has something to do with the copyrights (I hope not).

I like the new omni-tools because they look like something that has a clear functionality beyond "to be cool". The only time I miss the old version is when opening doors, but only because I really liked the bypass animation in ME3.
Also, the old silhouette is in the game, it's just specific to combat animations.

I like the more functional look of this one but I prefer the aesthetic of the old.
Bioware, just mix the two next game (maybe with more added just to be special).
EDIT: Actually, use that as the whole design philosophy for everything next time.

Game bugs, plot inconsistencies, animations, long wait times, etc. I had to find something people haven't complained about yet somehow!

I don't particularly miss the old "glove" but I don't think the new one is very interesting or well made either. Most often I just see a weird orange jumble that doesn't look like anything. I hope they clear it up a bit and make it look more like a proper tool.

The old one is actually still there. It shows up when you use powers but it's only there for a split second. If you charge a power like Overload though, you can see it pretty clearly while you hold the charge. I guess the tool on Ryder's left wrist is more of a tablet/mini-computer; while the one on his right wrist is for attacking.

IDK, took me a while to get used to the now omni tools (in the first scene I saw them, I thought I had a graphics glitch ) but in the end, I think they are fine. The UI looks much more intrecate to me, which would make it much more usable. It's like the upgraded from the huge bulky tiles in Windows 8 to the normal desktop UI, you can get with 8.1, I guess, hehe. Mild spoilers: BTW, I also like the angaran blue ball omni tools. Looks like they might be operated by hand positioning around the ball (a true 3D interface, so to speak). Interestingly, some krogan in New Tuchanka also use the angaran design. Wonder if they traded for them or just kicked some angaran butt to get their shiny toys.

The new model doesn't bother me. I think it fits the new story setting well. I agree, though, that a little more detail to the texturing wouldn't hurt, though.

In the OT, the omni tool interface could be much more intricate too, if the user needed it - it could project screens, keyboards and all sorts of UI elements.

Remember when omni-tools looked like badass hardlight gauntlets? Well now it looks like a rectangle with vomited-on textures... Am I the only one who feels that new omni-tools look worse than the original? Good to know it wasn't just me thinking this. Also the new Avina also sucks compared to the old one.

I'm really surprised at how they've managed to make a character model look worse with MORE polygons than the one from 10 years ago lol

Am I the only one who feels that new omni-tools look worse than the original? The pictures you are comparing show one instance of the new omni tool. It has multiple forms now compared to the old one which had a single form. I like both TBH and the new one also looks different when you are using it to open a door while holding a gun. Different opinions for different people. My favorite is the omni tool when using overload.

I like 'em. They are more true to how they would actually probably look in reality. At least in 'keyboard' mode It looks like the thing is interactable and Ryder is actually able to press 'buttons' to toggle options to do things with it. The originals, while cool, did not look that realistic.

I thought the Shepard's N7 armor was more iconic than the omni-tool. I was barely paying attention to the Omni-Tool they added the Omni-Blade.

Case and point... Nice shot of Kasumi and that Omni tool looks alot more functional than the thing in Andromeda that looks like a corrupted tablet.....not really a big deal, but for sake of discussion, they could have designed that tool better, even if it's used as some sort of note pad.

If you are on PC I think it gets alot more quality if you have post processing to ultra. I used to use low to avoid dof/blur and noticed it looked pretty bad but turning that up it looks a bit more vibrant I think, more details running through it
