I find it hard to imagine anyone choosing a world state where Alistair is dead as their canon.

in that vein...I wonder what is a better ending for him in that regard from a lore perspective Alistair+Anora does give a stronger Ferelden but...from a personal opinion...setting him up with the daughter of the man he hates the most...I dunno, it seems cruel imo

(well...there's that uhm...one thing with Morrigan, but we uh...we'll just try to ignore that shall we?)
I personally have the head canon that after the Warden cures the Blight Alistair settles down with a nice girl (if not romanced by the Warden of course) and has several kids with her (one of whom he'll call Duncan, 'cause he's the type of guy that'd persuade his wife to at least call one of his kids after his father figure )

I've never betrayed Alistair by saving Loghain, and I have never made him marry Anora. I always let him continue on as a Grey Warden. In my current PT I will marry Anora, let Alistair duel Loghain, and then let him continue as a Warden cause that's what he wants.

He’s angry because of what the mages did.

True, though there is a codex in Trespasser that mentions Alistair drawing himself as a guy being crushed by a giant crown. That is the problem with DA 2 and DAI, the games make no difference between a hardened Alistair and a non hardened Alistair. If hardened he is more confident in his role as King.

I do think it's funny that through his letters there's still the Alistair we all know ^ from the War table quest Shadows over Denerim if he rules alone or with the Warden

IF Bioware remaster DAO would you like a retcon of the Dark Ritual? I mean would you welcome the possibility to stay alive with Alistair as LI without the Dark Ritual? (King or Warden) Would you prefer to choose between the Dark Ritual and the Crown? Or are you happy and satisfy with the way the Dark Ritual is introduced and works? Do you feel the ending possiblities are to restricted for warden who romance Alistair?

It's one of the reasons I never romance Alistair, because I have a hard time making him do the ritual. At the same time though, I'm not a fan of retcons either. But if I could go back in time and change DAO, I'd at least let you recruit Loghain without losing Alistair. Though I guess practically everyone would just chuck Loghain at the archdemon in that case.

Honestly, if Origins was really made without knowing whether or not their would be a sequel, they should have let us conscript one of our existing Companions. Here's how I see that going down:
Morrigan- Refuse, and likely turn into a bird and fly off if we pressed the issue.
Sten- Since it's outside his role in the Qun, he would likely refuse, maybe even get violent if we pressed the issue.
Leliana- Survive, because Writer's Pet .
Wynne- Die, since the Faith spirit is strained enough. Plus, you just know Origins' writers would love to take our primary healer .
Ohgren- Survive, because Awakenings.
Zevran- I could see Zevran living or dying, but more likely dying.
Dog- Already a Warden in all the ways that count .

^ there was supposed to be a way to have both Alistair and Loghain together in the party there's even recorded lines for the Return to Ostagar dlc and everything
I wonder how that would have played out... either they'd have formed some sort of mutual respect or be at each other's throat whenever the Warden's back was turned ...maybe a bit of both

They probably cut it for reasons Walter Black mentioned though, or to make the dark ritual a more tempting offer.

I personally have yet to unlock the achievements of sacrificing either the Warden or Alistair...I just can't do it (plus I've gotten a soft spot for Kieran)
I immediately chose for the dark ritual for my first playthrough (because I romanced Alistair and didn't want to lose him) and ever since I've done the dark ritual all the time, romancing Alistair or not...yeah I'm cruel I know

There is no perfect ending for the Alistair romance. It's either ending in death, tell him to have sex with another woman or live as his mistress.

I've thought about having a state where the an Alistairmancing warden does the ultimate sacrifice with Alistair remaining a warden and sacrificing himself in Inquisition, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to pull that off either. As for Kieran, I like him too. Just not as Alistair's son. When he exists in my games he's either Loghain's or the warden's. Just a personal preference for me.

copper I had the same idea! Was actually thinking of doing that with my mage Warden...but then Zevran came around and I was like...screw it
and I have the same for Kieran, in my 'canon' world state he's Loghain's kid I'm also planning on another world state maybe with a Dwarf Noble Warden who has a normal Kieran it's funny that the Dwarf noble is the only Warden that can potentially have two children
