I've never played Unity so I'm astonished at the level of facial and body language I see. Mirage is a dud. Unity is a good game, it got a bad rap from people like me on PC when it released as it was a bug filled hot mess. That was resolved though and it is beautiful and well worth playing, the parkour is excellent and the story is good even if Arnau is personality wise one of the lamest AC Protag's.

I think Mirage was full of ideas that weren't fully flushed out. I am really wondering if they have sold more now than if they left it as an expansion to Valhalla as originally planned. For to me the graphical quality is due to the use of the Valhalla assets for development even if they knew the game was to be standalone at that time.

I am getting AC Red because ninjas, duh.
But I am cautious if I'd like it more or less than Valhalla. It's made by the Odyssey studio, which is hopefully a good sign. I am not expecting Odyssey's heights of course.
And if the franchise is moving backwards to the "roots", I am sceptical if I'd bother with it. I get it - simpler games, easier to make and churn out faster. But it was the type of Odyssey fun that brought me back. I've given up a few times on AC already - Brotherhood, AC3, Unity.

Rino @rinothebouncer Assassin’s Creed Codename Red 🚀 New info, rumors and dev updates 😎
Development🔥
✅Writer Pierre Boudreau revealed a portion of the game’s key art on his LinkedIn banner, confirming the female Shinobi protagonist (top third of the image. The rest is reconstructed by me. Full banner in the following tweet)
✅The Shinobi is called NAOÉ/NAOI
✅Her story similar to that of Bayek of Siwa from Origins. She’s out for revenge against the Templars as a member of theirs killed her father, which leads her to join the Shinobi
✅Devs from Ubisoft Bordeaux are heading from Mirage into Codename Red
✅The game is claimed to be fully playable at this point
✅More to be revealed early 2024
✅The game will be the last to follow the direction introduced in Assassin’s Creed Origins, a shift towards a more fantasy RPG approach, contrasting the original style
✅Launch is targeting a holidays 2024 since Ubisoft Business Development and Brand Partnership teams have been seeking sponsorship partners for 2024 (might delay to 2025), and Insider Gaming reported the Holidays 2024 window, which is still subject to change, based on Ubisoft’s recent strategies
✅Will have years of post-launch support and content and will coexist with Codename Hexe
✅Developed by Ubisoft Quebec (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey)
✅Codename Red was one of the reasons why Immortals Fenyx Rising was cancelled, and had some resources allocated to it
Game info 🎮
✅Live the Shinobi fantasy ✅Two playable protagonists ✅Asian female Shinobi ✅African male Samurai ✅Male lead is an African refugee ✅He learned the way of the Creed ✅Likely the historical warrior Yasuke ✅Yasuke died sometime after 1582CE ✅Era is likely Azuchi-Momoyama ✅Closely preceding Edo era, since ✅Edo period is 1603 – 1868CE ✅Stealth is back ✅Destructible environment ✅Hide bodies of victims ✅Hide in tall grass ✅Extinguish torches to hide shadow ✅Avoid being detected

Stupid Australian from the south of the world question and I should know by now but is Holiday Season around Christmas time or some other time. why can't they give a month or end of year etc.
Might have to play Mirage if they are going back to old Stealth ways to get up to speed.

Yeah, "Holiday Season" would be a Q4 (Oct-Dec) launch. Just hoping it doesn't run too close to DA4.

Fenyx wasn't canceled. Maybe the sequel was? Which isn't a big loss. The main game is loads of fun, but the DLCs were terrible.

I just recently got back into this series after having played some of the games in the past (2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 3, Unity) and stalling out after a certain amount of hours. I barely touched 3 and Revelations as far as I remember. I played more of 2, Brotherhood, and Unity. I recall having the most fun with Unity despite its problems (This was right when it came out).
I have Odyssey and Origins on disk and decided to boot up Odyssey out of curiosity. Currently almost at character level 20 in Odyssey and I can't say I'm not enjoying this game. That said, it definitely has some glaring issues...The sense of scale and exploration are carrying a lot of the weight, as opposed to the gameplay and writing. I noticed when reading up on the series after starting Odyssey that it's chronologically the first story in the timeline, and the Cult of Kosmos is supposed to be a spiritual precursor to the Templar Order. Given that, I've been considering playing the series in chronological order. Would anyone else recommend this, or would release-order be better (I'm gonna finish Odyssey regardless, but then I could go back)? If there's another play-order that anyone would recommend, I'd be interested in hearing it too.
What I know of Assassin's Creed's overarching narrative seems pretty cheesy, so I'm not overly concerned with story; I figure, though, that playing the games in chronological order might give me a fresh perspective on the franchise when compared to a lot of veterans.

Kassandra and the combat (different builds) were enough for replay Odyssey 4 times I think. I am terrible with the chronology stuff but this I got from the net, the only one I am unsure about is Rogue is better played IMO after AC3 and before Unity, especially before Unity as there is a direct segue from Rogue's ending to Unity's start IIRC:

The Cult of Kosmos is not the Templar precursor. The Templars are all about control and order. The Cult is for pure chaos. I can't go further without spoilers. Odyssey isn't really about Assassins and Templars. It's about the Isu. We get some Assassin nods like the First Blade DLC, but it's about the creator of the iconic weapon, not the Assassin Order. Anyhow, I also booted up Odyssey. What was supposed to be a 10 minute testing of graphic settings turned into hours of running in Elysium. Using DLDSR to spice up the graphics makes it one of the prettiest places I have ever seen. And the game doesn't even need much resources. I now realize how well optimized it is on the GPU side. Stuff like Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts and even CP2077 use a lot more GPU power, but don't look as good as Odyssey in comparable graphic settings.

Yeah I was really surprised when I played Odyssey main game again using DSR at how well my PC coped with it. Mmm, might play the Atlantis DLC not sure I am up for the main game again after having played it not that long ago but a quick romp through Elysium might be fun and pretty with the new monitor.

Lots of smiles at some of it and even a tear in the eye re a certain pirate woman's death.

Think I'll skip out on Valhalla for now. From what I've heard, it's extremely lengthy, and I want to move on to the classic-style games sometime soon. The setting and theme don't appeal to me that much either.

Had a quick one hour sail around last night enjoying the sites, listening to the sailors sing, sinking ships and was quietly surprised how quickly it all came back to me. Not sure I am at the point where I could make myself play through the whole game again but maybe. It sure does look pretty with a PC built ten years later and a far better monitor. GPU and CPU are not working hard, wondering if it would benefit much more saandrig if I boosted it with DSR?

More I play Mirage, the more I like it. I like the smaller setting maybe because its one of my favourites, the original area of AC 1. I am soon through it it seems... dang. Too short compared to Valhalla but might actually be at the top of the new games for me, lets see.
Also great for me is the more stealth / you are not a super killer who can dispatch everyone immediately. You are nimble and fast though.

Hope they don't forget that people didn't criticize the map because of size, but because of lack of fun things to do in it.
Odyssey had the best gameplay loop and the most gold quests sprinkled around. It didn't fix the map size issue, but definitely made it feel a lot better than Origins or Valhalla.
Frankly, I thought Valhalla has a bigger map than Odyssey (maybe because of the extra map zones). But England still felt empty with lack of activities. I didn't feel I run around as much in Odyssey. But most of what I recall from Valhalla was the boring A to B traversing.
