X-2 is something that should never be talked about, worse. Its drama CD... I actually really enjoyed X-2, and found it addicting as heck(the job system in that was pretty enjoyable, on top of the open-ended nature of it). Oh and Paine is top-tier waifu.

I just couldn't stand 8 for the life of me. Since I adored Quistis, being forced into a love story with Rinoa made me gag, (probably unfairly) she also seemed really clingy. I don't even like a lot of love stories and if they're forced, it can ruin the whole experience for me if I don't like the characters. To be fair I guess I didn't like Squall either with his stupid "whatever" line and jerkass personality. I did love 9 and Zidane even though I was never a fan of it's art direction.
Anyway 6, 7, 9 and 10 are my favorites but 7 is my top pick. I really hope they don't mess up the 7 remake because I really want to see the honey bee Inn in it's full glory.

FF7 is my favourite, I'm happy and scared in the same time to play the remake ;_; (and dividing the game in 3 parts... well no comment.... money, I know... ) I also totally love FF Tactics! wonderful dark story and characters ! FF 6 - 9 and FF10 were nice too ^^ I have to say I agree with Zip, a remake of FF8 would be nice because the original story had many flaws, they even changed/cut some parts .... I disliked FF12 and 13. Never played FF11 and 14 because I don't play online (ME MP is an exception) Can't wait for FF15 I'm a bit skeptical of the FF7 remake but I'll just wait and see. As for FF10-2, it should have been called Final Fantasy Charlie's Angels. Only played it once and I can't remember if I even beat it (I think I did ) 10-2 wasn't horrible but it wasn't all that great either. Paine was probably my favorite in that one but I really can't remember much else. Never played FF11 through the rest and I honestly don't have any interest in playing any of the recent ones at the moment. I want a remake of FF6!!!!! FF10-2... I saw a friend playing and said "NO NEVER" so I never played it. How to ruin characters.... Yes Paine seems to be the fav characters of everybody. Remake of FF6, yes me too ! FF7 remake : I will buy it, because I'm an hopeless FF7 fan. But when I see what they did with Crisis Core on PSP.... I mean, Genesis, WTF ? Angeal was a nice new character but they ruined the Nebelheim sequence with Genesis, it's like the stabbed me in the heart. If they include Genesis on the FF7 remake I will be mad at Square Enix. Or make him a stupid optionnal boss but let the original story like it is.

On one hand, a FF6 remake would be great, on the other hand, considering SE track record these days......

That's not a remake, that's SE being too fucking lazy and just tossed something out hoping it would appease FF6 fans but backfired badly.

I played FF 7, 9, and 12 several times and enjoyed all of them. I especially like Basch in 12. His outfits made me laugh. Seeing that I played 7, 9, and 12, I guess the next FF I'll play is 16.

Everyone loves Baltheir though of course. To go back to the VA thing I think the VA in FF12 is pretty amazing, possibly the best in any game I've seen, plus the translation is pretty awesome as well, courtesy of long time FF translator Alexander O' Smith. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_O._Smith

Anyway! The FF fandom is vast and universal, everywhere you can find people that like FF, consequently it would be pretty much impossible to summarize all the details that are incoming, including the exact knowledge of really where FFXV sits in the FF universe, if at all. There are plenty of places to read more though, such as the wiki on central characters like Noctis himself finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Noctis_Lucis_CaelumWhere you can learn about, for example, Noctis perfume! Or the slightly infamous Cidney Some important details though Release Date
November 29th, 2016 Platforms
PS4 and XB1 exclusive Directors/Artists/Key People
A lot of important artists, designers, etc, are from earlier FFs such as Isamu Kamikokuryo, of course, Tetsuya Nomura, and Yusuke Naora. The composer as people have mentioned is Yoko Shimomura, who has done a number of games such as Kingdom Hearts and a variety of others. Hajime Tabata (who directed Type-0) took over as director from Nomura partway through development. Other related FFXV media Kingsglaive
Kingsglaive is a movie released by Square which follows Regis and Noctis in the world of EoS. It's 110 min long (really it's like any movie to be honest), and has had a limited theatrical run. Final Fantasy: Brotherhood
FF Brotherhood is a 4 episode OVA (original video animation, although it's technically an original "net" animation, it's basically just like any anime OVA). It's also set in the FFXV world and centered on Noctis and co, although I think it has a distinctively lighter tone, instead of the epic kind of intensity of Kingsglaive it's more focused on the casual relationships and encounters between central characters. Other random things But I've never played FF before, what do I do??
That doesn't matter at all! No knowledge of the prior FFs is required to enjoy FFXV. To a large extent, Final Fantasies are intended to stand on their own terms, although there are certain long running themes that make themselves present, such as - the character of Cid, usually a scientist/inventor of some kind) - Chocobos, which are the Miyazaki inspired kind of "mounts" of the Final Fantasy universe. - Airships - Items/Inventory (Megaelixer, elixer, etc) - White magic, black magic - A super powerful hidden sword or something thereabouts And a wide variety of other details both small and large. But I don't have a PS4, or an XB1!
While it is within the realm of theoretical possibility that FFXV could launch on other systems, the possibility is somewhat slim, considering that already a number of other games have already launched on PC that were previously PS4 exclusive such as Nier 2 and others, it seems likely that this will stay on the PS4/XB1 for the foreseeable future. Currently the retail price for a PS4 is $349.99, which is a substantial sum, no doubt, although you could think of it like... well... 7 fancy dinners... maybe? Hm, something! Ok ok, what kind of game is FFXV anyway?
FFXV is quite simply a JRPG, that is, Japanese Role Playing Game, in the vein of many other classic JRPG series such as Dragon Quest, Persona, Suikoden, Breath of Fire, Tales of series, Star Ocean series, etc, etc. For many, who have played a large variety of JRPG series, Final Fantasy has often attained special recognition for appealing to a very wide range of players, suffice to say, when it comes to JRPGs, it's certainly well recognized. Most JRPGs tend to follow the format of WRPGs and other games pretty close, they have leveling, statistics, set encounters, etc. FFXV is more action based, but it's still featuring a lot of levels and things like that. They don't tend to be really harder or easier than any other game, I would say in general they start off easier and then get progressively harder over time is the general rule, although there are exceptions to this trend. Suffice to say, the series isn't like Dark Souls where the notion is that you are going to die, it's designed hopefully so that you succeed on the first go around. To be quite honest, you don't need to have played games before to get into FFXV IMO, although that's needed is an idea that the experience is interactive on some level, but it's not harsh or punishing like a brutal racing game or something. Finally, FFXV, along with every other FF except for 11 and 14, is primarily a SP game. There are problem online elements such as trophies, achievements, etc, but mostly, you are just playing a SP game without online or MP components. Well, where does FF come from?
FFXV is being made by Square-Enix which was formerly Square, (Enix was another company that merged with Square), which is a Japanese company, however, Square-Enix has a giant NA element which means English websites and all that so it's no problem for things like technical assistance, etc. Hey, I've been playing FF since I was 9! I know the series backwards and forwards, you don't need to tell me all that!
Of course, of course, Aeris > Tifa, 6 > 7, 9 is great, Nobuo is best... etc. etc... but hey! Some people might never have tried one, you never know. Summary
Well this is getting pretty long, and it really isn't even 1/10 of FF, to be honest, but one thing as you can see a lot of FF fans tend to agree on is the music is great, so here is a sample!

I guess my favorites are IV, VI, IX, X and X-2. Yeah, I know that X-2 is hated, but I find it the best combat in the series. The job class Dressphere system is really handy.
I didn't play VII until a few years ago. It's pretty good, even grabbed it for the PS4. I could never get into VIII. FFII pissed me off (what a waste of money,) and III was okay despite how cheesy a lot of the story was.
XII and XIII made me feel like I flushed about $120 (between the two games) down the drain. Despite Giedon Emery's voice, with Vaan's "characterization" (worse than Tidus, I swear) and the dull-as-bricks plot, I couldn't finish XII. And I sure couldn't get into FFXIII: The Hallway.

Well, but still... everyone does seem to love Balthier.
Anyway, one issue with FF12 was that the direction changed halfway, so the identity became unclear at one point or another.
I've had a lot of fun playing FF14 though, I think a lot of people stay away because MMO, but really it was one of the best FFs I've played, and you can play it basically like a SP game.

Like a lot of games, XII had an interesting premise(man(kind) seeking to break free from the influence of "gods" and control his own destiny) but the execution OTOH left much to be desired. That said, as a game FFXII was pretty enjoyable due to it's open-endedness and side quests.
FFVIII is another such case with it's premise of a witch from the future trying to manipulate past events to alter the future, but alas...

I gave up on 12 because of the infamous middle act between Raithwall's Tomb and Archadia. I can handle padding to a point, but that was ridiculous. Kinda amusing I have yet to ever finish any FF game after X because as much as I hated Tidus, Yuna and Jecht(more so him) made the game bearable (didn't finish X-2,XII,XIII and didn't even touch it's two sequels).
Tho I have heard good things about XIV:realm reborn.

I'll probably pick it up if it comes to PC.
My introduction to Final Fantasy was with XIII. I picked it up because I felt like a good, modern, turn-based RPG. I didn't realize it wasn't truly turn-based, in the traditional sense, at the time. I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Picked up XIII-2 when it came out, but found the time-traveling thing frustrating and repetitive, so I never finished it. I also picked up Lightning Returns, but have yet to play it.
At one point I picked up VIII on steam, but found it kinda "meh". Maybe it was because it was a bad PC port, or maybe it's because the game is outdated. But either way, it turned me off the earlier games.

Hell FF13 has an incredibly interesting concept, hero's that everyone hates that constantly split up because they all hate each other. They just fuck it up so bad.

When it comes to VIII, a good deal of issues are due to the terrible translation, see Squall in Dissidia where he's closer to how he was in the Japanese version and nowhere as bad as English VIII. XII and XIII problems tho are just bad writing all around no matter what version you play. The English voice acting however is very good and is consistent unlike the previous games which ranged from either passable to narmy as all hell.
VIII still has alot of problems but like X, it's at least playable andto an extent enjoyable(tho less enjoyable then X simply for the lack of Jecht) unlike XII and XIII.
