Thanks haha, I couldn't remember exactly what the deal was with it as I played both rogue and warrior but only played as a warrior and dual wielded during awakening. And yeah that was another bummer, not being able to switch between daggers and bows mid-combat. I played my original play through as a rogue but once I realized that it was impossible to switch weapons when a fight began I had to stick to just dual wielding daggers which really got me upset. Game play and mechanics wise I still have to say DAO was the best. Dual wielding is probably the thing I miss most.

Blood mage, spirit healer and and some sort of Knight Enchanter/Spirit Warrior combo.
As for the mundane classes, whatever keeps them entertained I suppose...

From Origins - despite it being my favourite DA game (and one of my all-time top 3 games) none. Not that any of them were bad, they weren't at all, just none of them really grabbed me - and a couple of them broke the lore, which I don't like. From DA2 - FORCE MAGE! FORCE MAGE! Rift mage in DA:I was, of course, quite similar and I'd take that if Force Mage wasn't on the table, but FORCE MAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Soooooo much fun. And some of the best talent names in Dragon Age. From Inquisition - see above for Rift Mage. I'm currently on a pause for my 2nd Assassin playthrough, so I guess that. Tempest was also fun. If Knight Enchanter came back I'd rather it was a hybrid spec, rather than a 'classic' spec.

Well written Blood Mage would be nice. Spirit Healer. The original Arcane Warrior, not the Circle's version (I dislike, that Vivienne's an "arcane warrior".). Well, you know how it is. A bunch of non-Dalish, non-alienage elves start showing up, rubbing sleep out of their eyes, and suddenly people know long-forgotten elven techniques. I'm sure this was all found via research and is not suspicious in the slightest. Now if you'll excuse me, I just stumbled on these gaatlok barrels in the Winter Palace, and I need to notify the Inquisitor. While Knight Enchanters were more than like inspired by Arcane Warriors, do they have to be? Personally, I find it just as unlikely that in thousands of years of magical experimentation and warfare, no one outside the Elves had the barest minimum of imagination to work out how to use heavy weapons and armor with magic. Seriously, no rebel mages fighting Templars, no conscripted Circle mages fighting enemy nations or the Qunari, no Warden Mages desperate for any edge against the Darkspawn?
As far as Class Specializations, my ideal system would be a hybrid of Origins and DA2; Companions would get one unique personal Spec and one general one the player can assign. Rather than rehashing old Specs, I would mix and match them to create new ones. For example, instead of bringing back the Berserker, I would merge it with the DAMP Silent Sister to create the Gladiator, a high damage evasion tank. Since Tevinter Templars don't have accuees to regular lyrium, I would make the DA4 Templar a Rogue hybrid of the Artificer and Tempest, gadgeteers with good crowd control. For support mages, I would mix bits of the Spirit Healer and Necromancer to make a proper Summoner that calls minor spirits to buff allies or demons to debuff enemies. Mostly though, I would bring back general class versatility of armor, weapons and stat customization so they aren't automatically locked into one of the Trinity

Ah, screw it #Xebenkeckisinnocent! Man, I really hope we get to actually talk to her at some point. Gaxkang seems to have a gigantic ego, and Imshael is fun but technically chaotic evil. Xebenkeck seems totally chill. She gets exiled for draft-dodging, then spends a bunch of time just sharing her reading list with people. Only gets mad if Hawke strolls in and destroys all her books. Sure, she probably had something to do with Kirkwall's current condition. But at this point, everyone her age has convinced a magister to commit atrocities. It's a rite of passage.

This isn't so much as a specialization, but as something I would really like to see them bring back. Dual wielding no matter the class. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe remembering it was only available if you were a dualist in the original DAO, but they later allowed you to dual wield no matter what class or specialization you were once the Awakening expansion came out. I played as a ranger my first time through but in my next I played as a champion and was able to dual wield during Awakening. I miss being able to inflict all the damage So I started playing Dragon Age Origins yet again as I can never not resist playing as my warden; by far my favorite hero in the series, but anyway this isn't a specialization either, but focuses more on gameplay mechanics. I miss being able to switch in between your first and secondary weapon slots no matter your class or specialization. It was nice being a warrior or rouge and being able to wield a sword and a bow and switch back and forth between the 2 when needed. Granted it took a bit to get to the right selection on the wheel but it still made combat more fluid and likable. Being able to switch between melee and ranged weapon really helped and was something I would really like to see again

The main thing I want from DA4 is some form of arcane warrior spec, but a specific Tevinter version of it, preferably something that combines elements of the proximity damage Battlemage spec from Awakening. I've rarely felt as op as I did double specing as an arcane warrior-Battlemage, wading into the enemy with a maelstrom of death around me.
Also, a spec that allows a mage to summon and control shades or some other sort of minion, not the weaksauce version we got from the Necromancer in DAI.

Force mage. The animation of Pull of the Abyss and Fist of the Maker were entertaining and their actual results in combat were solid. Missed not having that one in DAI.

This one was a tech issue (at least in DAI) otherwise it definitely would have been a thing . As far as common RPG archetypal roles, 'pet class' is definitely something we've been lacking.

Spirit Healer Blood Mage (but only if it can be done right, as a dark and morally questionable path, not as just another set of spells) Bard Berserker
In addition, if they go separate races again, I'd like to see race-specific specializations. Like Keeper for Dalish elves or Carta for dwarves.

I see a few Spirit Healer - is it because you like personally having to heal your teammates while the AI does its thing or because you just want a dedicated healer teammate?

Normally I'm not a healer type (for example I avoid healing classes like plague in MMOs), but I enjoyed being a healer a lot in both DAO and DA2. I realized that after we didn't have class like that in DAI. Even if I wasn't healer myself, I liked to have teammate dedicated to healing, either with reaaaaaally specified tactics or just so I could jump in to control them and heal however I want. Being able to do that made huge difference. For me at least. *cought* My two cents on that matter.

I just like the idea of buffing/healing support classes who don't have to pewpewpew to be useful One of my favorite DAO characters was a blood mage/spirit healer who focused on buffing the party and locking down the enemies rather than damage dealing. Such a character is pretty much impossible in DAI (hard as hell in DA2. Anders running with Panacea active was as close as I could get)

While I wouldn't play a healer myself, I do like to have a dedicated healer follower when it fits with their personality or character history, like Wynne or Anders. I wouldn't spec Morrigan into being a healer just because I needed/wanted a healer. Of course, this is largely moot for me, as I liked the idea of shields and the lack of healing in DAI, and also what guard brought to the game for tanks. (Not interested in opening the "shields vs healing" discussion again in this thread, that is just my view.)

I definitely liked that the Healing Classes were removed in DAI. The problem for me is, when you have a Healer Class in a game, they often become all-but-mandatory to have around as game balance will be built around their inclusion. And personally I find healers to be the most boring of all classes. I greatly prefer healing to be handled by consumables, regen, etc.. Something other than class abilities. And that's my 2 cp on the matter.

Rascoth bring up an interesting point with regard to healing and tactics. You pretty much need to have defined tactics if you're going to have healing, far more advanced than DAI's pitiful tactics. The AI can't be allowed to waste the healer's mana or cooldowns when the person trips over a rock or something.

This was one of the reasons we did this in DAI though it didn't quite pan out as intended (there are a number of subtle reasons for that that I won't get in to). One of the other 'issues' it causes is that as soon as healing becomes 'all-but-mandatory' as you said you also run in to problems with the follower that has the heals. In DAO it was Wynne and in DA2 Anders - if you didn't want to take either of those people with you, your healing output suffered.
