Just finished the main story in Shadow. I liked the increase in the sheer number of challenge tombs and the greater difficulty of the puzzles (I had to drop down to Easy for the Temple of Light -- could not figure out the sequence of steps for the life of me). Loved the look and environment audio of all the open spaces. Loved the drastic reduction in QTE's, though they are still there in a more Uncharted form and during combat. Loved the ultra-dark tombs and set pieces, incredibly realistic with a 4K HDR monitor. The Cenote was one of my favorite areas because of this.
Didn't like the story so much. Every TR so far has been a bit weak in that department. The ending was, as usual, laughably anti-climactic. It's pretty sad when the oil refinery sequence, with the iconic imagery of Lara rising from the waters to become the evil Shadow, upstages the ending sequence in every possible way.
I was also bothered by the facial animations, particularly when Lara is buying stuff from a vendor. It's like she got hit in the face with a bucket of botox every time. Actually, all of the non-cutscene NPC interactions were pretty stiff in the facial department (no pun intended). What a feature to cut corners on, given how much was spent on the gorgeous environmental design.

To see how sparkly my new 2080Ti was, I bought SotTR and made it through the prologue (ALL LARA'S FAULT) And most of the way to the Peruvian town (whatever the name is). Very little combat in that first area, although...there were some..."tense" moments... So far, Shadow is a slower burn than Rise or TR2013, however, still in the very early stages. Seems well optimised and absolutely, freakin' stunning visually. Hit my first bug, though - a CTD as I was heading into town Looking forward to more this evening.

I'm starting Shadow and have a question about the difficulty. I'm a casual scrub usually, but I've played both other games and I'm not too bad at them. I like the idea of less obvious clues and more immersive exploration....does anyone have any advice? Did you enjoy the higher difficulties?

I lost interest in the game before reaching the middle of the story, so I just slogged quick to the end on the easiest difficulty. I think you can adjust what clues and tips to show and what not, so it's down to your personal preference. Me - I take all the help I can get in these games.

Like saandrig said, you can adjust the difficulty for puzzles and combat separately from each other, so having tricky puzzles, doesn't mean the combat becomes harder - note: I was pretty good at melee combat in the first two, but for whatever reason, in Shadow this became a bit of a nightmare, even on normal. Not "difficult", just annoying and unresponsive. I didn't try high difficulty for the puzzles, but at one point I went from normal to easy and my recollection was of a guide that was more akin to a flashing neon sign, so I think the differences between each setting are quite high. Maybe it was just the one I chose, though. I went back up to normal straight away.

The only rticky isfor me was the melee bit where you're just armed wit ha knife whereas th enemy was fully armed. I often was able to take half of them down befoer the enemy realised they had a problem in the 1 playthrough I have done under normal circumstances. Plan on going through again soon though as I want to try the DLC's as I've not got round to playing them yet I always planned to eventually to do at least 3 or 4 playthroughs to try differnt things look at the nwe game plus outfits and such as well and all that. But aside from the initia lplaythrough I did shortly after it came out I'v enot really had a chance to return.

Each part is customisable depending on whether yo uwant it easy meduim or hard. For me Shadow is probabl ymy favouriet of the 3 newer games though as it has moer puzzles than combat and fewer QTE's as well which vastly improved the game. The story is pretty good too. It really hits it's stride once you reach Paititi. Can't speak for the DLC's yet as I've not played them. But I plan on doing Shadow again after I've played the new Jedi game. Too busy playing the ME games atm though.

I've had Shadow since last X-mas and still haven't played it yet.... .....i've seen posts about puzzle difficulty and such...for me i don't like being stumped on any puzzles...so when i play, i know i will set that option to easy ASAP. Back in the day i used to like the challenge of puzzles...now?....i just want a smooth gaming experience without getting stumped which sometimes takes me out of the experience....

I've got games in my backlog that I just haven't got round to playimng either so you're not the only one. For example I got the RE2 remak ewhen it came out but I've not got round to playing that yet either. I'l lprobably play it soon though as I thought it's probably best played during the winter months when it's dark given it's a very atmospheric game. May give it a go after I've finished my run of Shadow

I also disabled all the glowy objects, which made me actually look around and find things.

In my opinion Shadow doesn't have the greatest main plot- although to be fair no tomb raider does - but what it does have is the best arc for lara herself.

I know on my first playthrough of Shadow I adjusted the difficulty a couple of times for a fight or two and then returned it. I found going through the menus and adjusting the difficulty for how you want to play was a really nice concept and wish it was in other games like Fallen Order. Unfortunately the game didn't catch me as much as I thought it did, for I haven't gone back to play the DLC after I finished with it the first time which I normally do.

Whoa, belly of the snake? Wait, are there, like, spiders and snakes abound in large numbers?
That would kinda ruin the mood, and I enjoyed Rise way too much over this past weekend to end up sad about Shadow. It even turns out that listening to Lara for the better part of the weekend has brought back some of my old English accent. The rather posh one, that I had before I switched to what sounds quite American sometimes during 2018.

Soooooo.
Are them spiders, poison bugs (yeah, I read the skill description) actually dangerous or are they just ugly looking (seriously, fuck it, I saw one and noped out of going that way) equivalent to deathcaps?
Seriously, Deathcaps are just as dangerous but aren't actively trying to fucking end you. In reality, anyway. Are there, like, synckills and shit for that stuff? What about plants? Any pieces of shit that snap at you? (Playing the first two Harry Potter games back in the day was torture once I got to those, and that phobia ain't gotten better)
