Does anyone know if they are making another? Considering that since the reboots, both the stories have a connection in the background, and given how Rise of the Tomb Raiders ends I'd say yes. They are making another one. All the games/mythology have been centered about a object that can grand immortality. I get the feeling they (Trinity) are (unknowingly to Lara) pushing/guiding her to find something for them they themselves can't find. Especially since she intervened with 'the divine source'. Quote from the ending of the game: The hidden sniper, while aiming directly at Lara's head, asks his boss on the radio if he should kill Lara or spare her. To which the unseen superior responds "No, not yet". Also might be total conjecture, but trinity, as in three? So 3 games I must say however I really like how 'real' the stories are. A nice mixture of mundane and supernatural events in a story they actually explore. Also partly the reason I never got that much into Uncharted, they just disregard how the myth influences everything. We don't discover (often) how it works, what it does, how people around it reacted, what they thoughts were of it, etc. I mean aren't they just a little curious about the object? You know such items exist and they're just, welp tough luck, onwards to the next treasure that isn't hopefully supernatural.

The original series used to alternate sci-fi and mythology. For example, the Atlantean monsters in TR1 weren't mutants, they were genetically engineered lifeforms designed by Natla. The Pyramid was just a factory for mass producing them once the genetic template had been specified. Unfinished Business also suggests it could do cloning, because Natla was attempting to clone Lara! Which always made me wonder, since it had cloning capability, did the real Natla die? Once she had the Pyramid powered up, she could have just copied herself, let the clone take over and leave. It's a shame they didn't keep the original version of Natla in the reboots, I preferred her as a genius. The kind of person who fights with her intellect and cunning rather then power. Tomb Raider III was mostly about genetic mutation, with some genetic engineering on the side. The green goop we see everywhere is a genetic randomiser, it's called Vermuelin. That name came from some pre-release material, I don't think it was part of the official game documentation. According to what is learned in Tomb Raider III Gold, only Sophia Leigh knew how to control the genetic modification properties of Vermuelin properly. And it took her about 100 years to perfect that procedure. Yes, Sophia is immortal, but not invulnerable. Shoot her, blow her up, it'll injure her, but she'll just reintegrate. Why are all the villianesses in Tomb Raider blonde? At least they're not unintelligent. I always wondered if Lara got a bit of that immortality effect. According to the ingame dialogue, exposure to the energy field of Vermuelin causes mutation. And she was carrying 4 statues made of the refined element in her backpack for most of the game! My theory is that it didn't make her invulnerable, but it did stop her aging process. There's a scene in Tomb Raider IV where the villain offers her eternal youth and her response is "I've already got it". I wondered if that meant my theory about Lara not aging was correct.

Didn't Natla die in end by her machines while 'shadow Lara' watches? Natla kept ordering her to save her but she didn't follow that command because the real Lara said something to her. Its been years since I watched/played any of the older series.

There was no Shadow Lara in the original version. There was the Mimic, an imperfect attempt to clone Lara. See here for the scene you wanted to know about: And here is the final battle with Natla: Note the line "You can't bump off me and my brood so easy." That's what made me suspect this Natla was a clone and she knew that she was. Also, she's been genetically altered, so definitely not the original! My theory is that there were two clones, the one who falls into the pit and the final boss clone. The first one was most likely allowed to think she was the real Natla, so as to draw enemy attention away from the actual Natla.

I'm sorry, this is just... From the poor acting, to the terrible, cliche-ridden script, I just... can't. I was hoping this movie's tone would have been more in line with grittier tone of the games. At least a meatier acting role for Alicia. But they're going for full-on 80s B-movie action flick here. Complete with atrocious dialogue and cringey one-liners. And if they were going this route, why the hell did they cast Alicia for it? She comes across as a twiggy 15 year old trying to act tough.

Game movies are usually awful. I concur, the majority of movies I've seen based on a game series were an experience I regretting committing time to, including the Tomb Raider movies. Final Fantasy: Advent Children is the only one I can think of that got it right. The Tomb Raider movies in particular I hold responsible for causing the retconning of the game series. And as I did not approve of the storyline changes, naturally I have more reason to dislike the TR movies for that reason. This is what happened: Original Tomb Raider series:
Lara Croft (age 18-20) was on a airplane trip with her finishing class to Switzerland when the plane crashed and she was the only survivor. Having to practice her survival skills getting back to the nearest town is what started her career as a adventuring archaeologist. Her parents disapproved of this "unseemly behavior" for a minor member of the British Aristocracy and disowned her, refusing even to acknowledge her existence. Lara had a house she was left in an will by another relative and Winston (who had been a butler to her parents) went with her to their new home. Lara then spent the next 12 years building her career as an expert antiquities retrieval expert, suceeding where many others had failed. And because her reputation was growing, she was able to insist on a lot of money for acquiring whatever trinket her employer desired. So in time, the fees from such activities resulted in her own personally earned fortune, making her self-sufficient and completely independent. In Tomb Raider V, it appears her parents were willing to reconcile with Lara, but it's unknown if this ever happened, because she doesn't appear in TRV directly (it's a series of flashback adventures to Lara's past) and the next instalment just shows her arriving in Paris to discover her former mentor was murdered by Eckhardt. It wasn't Eckhardt, it was Karel impersonating him to manipulate Lara into killing his opponent.
Movie version:
Lara's parents died in the plane crash and she became the sole heir to the Croft estate/fortunes. The butler was Hillary. Retcon version:
Lara's mother died before Lara got back to civiliization. Lara was much younger, somewhere around 8-10. Her father also passed on at some point. I assume the reason for doing so was because the game creators were tired of explaining the difference between the game version and all the other versions. To be honest, I always wonder how such a critical flaw got into the plot when it was transferred to other media. And according to the notes I read, Survivor timeline is a third interpretation of events. Not that I have any personal knowledge there, I'd stopped playing the game series by the time that one was released.

Yeah, movie adaptations of video games are usually mediocre or flat out bad. However, I thought the TR movies and the 1st Silent Hill movie were decent. The trailer looks okay and I'm gonna watch because I love TR. As long as they don't go into Paul W. Anderson's Residen Evil movies territory (Ugh. Crapcom liked the movies but they're Japanese and everyone knows Japan loves ridiculous over-the-top stuff ), I'm fine

Oh, nice catch on Shadow. I have not tried the franchise yet, but I bookmarked it for when I am finished with the AC and want an adventure game with platforming and a fixed lead.
