I am thinking of playing as a female elf, but don't want my human Inquisitor's voice (Alix W Regan's) if I can help it. After 500 hours using this voice, it's sorta hard coded, ya know? For a totally new experience, how does the American female voice hold up? Thanks for any feedback.

It is a rather deep voice, so it doesn't really fit the soft features of a slim Dalish elf. But it just might work if you give her a rougher or tomboyish look.

I think Sumalee Montano is pretty good, and I actually really liked her for my mage elf.

Elves could really go either way anyway; they typically have a Welsh accent, so whichever voice you choose, they must have had some outside influence imparting that accent. Possibly trading with dwarves or trading with humans. Neither voice is "more accurate" or "less accurate". But they definitely lend themselves to different character personalities, so it will depend on what this inquisitor is like. Sumalee works well with older, calmer, or more sarcastic inquisitors, and those are the kind I usually play. Alix probably works better for younger or more energetic inquisitors. And if you're worried about the emotional content of... certain scenes, don't worry, Sumalee knocks it out of the park. In fact, I prefer those scenes with Sumalee - after so long being calm and businesslike, it hits harder when she finally cracks. Alix does a great job as well, but Sumalee usually captures more of the flavor that I'm interested in.

She will have an edge on her and no bs tolerance. At all. Seen it and done it all. She will be as surprised by Solas as he is by her, I think So Sumalee looks more like a right fit. Thanks.

Oh, and btw, if you're playing with Sumalee, pick "you talk too much" in the final battle with Corypheus.
You know how everyone considers the Trespasser rant to be one of Alix's best lines? The "you talk too much" line is the one I'd pick for Sumalee.

Used the American VA for my Human Anti-Noble Noble who totally joined the Red Jennies in Trespasser. The beautiful moments I had with the VA for this Character type/personality were so excellent, that it may have been the best PT of my 3 total PTs of the Trilogy. Especially when Solas was trying to get her to be all serious about the well and she was all like, "nah, I think it'll all work out bro."
Due to that, I use her as my Avatar <<<<<<

Elves could really go either way anyway; they typically have a Welsh accent, so whichever voice you choose, they must have had some outside influence imparting that accent. Possibly trading with dwarves or trading with humans. Neither voice is "more accurate" or "less accurate". In Origins, elves almost always had American accents. Zathrian was Tim Russ, Lanaya was Kimberly Brooks, Valendrian was Peter Jessop, Velanna was Grey DeLisle, OG Merrill was Erin Matthews, and so on. Even Zevran, whose accent was meant to be different than the other elves of Ferelden, was voiced by Jon Curry, noted American who went on to provide the American-accented VO for the Inquisitor. The Welsh change-over only happened with Dragon Age II. All of my characters have been British. So Alix it is. I prefer to avoid English VO when I can. Alix did a great job, she's an excellent voice actress, and a pretty rad human being, but I'm sick and tired of my characters in BioWare games having English accents. I could buy Scottish (esp. Gorbals), Welsh, or Irish; hell, I'd even buy Ulster. (Probably.) But after thousands of hours of SWTOR and DA2, I'm done with English-accented PCs if I can at all help it.

Strange.. only five Bioware protagonists that I played have British accents; Hawke, Inquisitor, Sith Inquisitor, Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent while the rest is American/Canadian.

The one and only dwarf playthrough I did, I used Montano. She's ok. I like AWR. Very talented individual. The characters she has voiced were very well done. I like to hear her again in the next game as the Inquisitor. If not, I'm sure she will be heard voicing another character in another Bioware game. I don't see Bioware not using her since they have a good relationship. Of course I like to have her voice Samantha again. See what I did there Bioware.

Well, sure, but I'd say Fenris looks more delicate than, say... Varric or default male Hawke and his voice still suits him.

Can confirm, voice has nothing to do with appearance. Real life example: I'm half Chinese, and (1) I have a deeper voice than people expect, (2) my relatives on that side of the family often have much deeper voices than people expect. Wispy bodies and younger-looking faces throw people off, I guess.
I've noticed this happens a lot for other east asian folks - look at how often someone like ProZD gets a comment along the lines of "why is your voice so deep????"
