I'm looking for recommendations. I just recently became able to drink alcohol, but I haven't yet. (I turned 21 last year, but I have a medical condition that requires I take medications. I wasn't allowed to drink with one of them, but I was recently able to stop taking it.)
So, any recs? Bonus if they're low alcohol content, because I can still only drink small amounts of the stuff.

I learned to drink from college and I haven't aged enough to discriminate against alcohol yet.
I would buy a sampler pack of different kinds to see what you like.

Oh ho ho ho!
India Pale Ales and Belgian Whites
Many companies make these and here are my current favorites:
Smuttynose Brewing Company Stone Brewing Company Avery Brewing Company Sam Adams Ommegang Blue Moon Two Headed?
I'm sure there are others but i can't recall them at the moment. Drink up!

Alcohol was mentioned, so I was unconsciously summoned.
Real answer: a lot of what you try, you probably won't like at first. Lots of alcohol, especially beers, are an acquired taste.
Since you're brand new and also seeking low alcohol content to ease your toes into the waters, try out those little wine coolers like Mike's Hard Lemonade and basically anything that is packaged in the same area those are.
For something a little harder but "sweet" for the uninitiated, you can also try white wines like white zinfadel or pink/red moscato (kinda like drinking juice) or pick up some coconut rum (Malibu's cheap) and you can mix that with really any kinda of fruit juice/orange juice/pineapple juice.

You might also enjoy the alcoholic root beers (like Not Your Father's Root Beer) and/or Angry Orchard (which is a hard cider, kinda like apple juice and beer had a lovechild).

Maybe try like a Hefeweizen (wheat beer) or something? They are not very bitter.

I was gonna come in here expletives blazing to condemn DragonRacers turrrible advice but I'm pleased to see that there is no need.
Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is the beer i use to introduce my friends to craft brews and beer itself. Give it a shot.
Blue Moon Belgian White works for this as well.

Many craft beers have an IBU meter on them as well. Int'l Bitterness. An IPA (India Pale Ale) will have a strong bitterness to it. It's probably not a good beer to start with. It literally is a taste you have to work at "acquiring". Not very fun. The scale goes from 1-100. An IBU rating of 50 would be quite bitter though. Don't think I've seen anything really above a 60 that'd bother with. Wheat Ales, Hefeweizens, witbeirs, all good choices. Lambics are quite sweet and one of my absolute favourite beers of all time is a green apple lambic. Hoegaarden or kronenbourg blanc are some fairly common imports. But my first suggestion is to ask at your local liquor store for local micro-brewed. (If you live on the west coast of Canada I can give you solid suggestions.) Sour Fruit beers are hit and miss but if they hit I find them fantastic. You'd have to go to your local liquor store and see what sours are in though. They are very seasonal and are meant to be enjoyed sooner with a shorter shelf-life. Don't buy old sours, they aren't meant to be aged well. If you live in the northern hemisphere you're just in time for sours to start getting brewed though. (Sour is quite different from bitter, think berry tart.) Sours are almost always sold by the bomber or growler so don't look for a 6pk if this sounds interesting. The beer I suspect you are aiming for though, if you want a low apv(Alcohol By Volume) is something called a "Radler". I don't try them as often as I like a bit higher content than radlers usually have (2.5%apv roughly) but I've had a few that stood out. A grapefruit radler by Schofferhofer(iirc) and a local lemon radler were fantastic. Another option is a beer from quebec brewer "Unibroue" called "Ephemere". It's typically a green apple beer quite unlike any other beer I've ever tasted. It's refermented which gives it a unique taste and texture. They do other flavours seasonally, from black currant to blueberry. Here's a pic of the bomber. The other end, some my girlfriend likes, are much darker beers that are sweetened with chocolate or coffee. If you can get your hands on a good chocolate porter you can sip it and enjoy. A local brewery called TWA Dogs makes a smooth porter called "Holy Willie's Robust Porter". It's fantastic. Young's Double Chocolate Stout is an english export that is pretty good as well. Innis and Gunn do wonderful things. I've kind of moved on from them but for about 5 years in my early/mid twenties it was my go-to for good beer. It's a scottish export and should be available most places I imagine. It's a medium beer with toffee and vanilla hints. The apv is usually 5%ish or higher though IIRC.

That's a great chart thanks for posting it. Never seen it before. I am a beer wimp and go for the lighter ones on the left side. I bought an Indian pale ale beer kit recently so i will give that a try. I like India pale ale by alexander keiths.

Only way I like my beer is have few drops mixed into the water that I throw on the stones in sauna ( the scent is pretty nice imo). If I "have to" drink alcohol I rather straight go for the strong stuff.

Greatly depends on where you live and what's available there I guess. I'm from Germany and my favourite by far is Jever. Friesisch herb. ("Frisian bitter"). But even over here most don't like it because it's too bitter for them.

Try everything.
I'd recommend something like Yuengling or Samuel Addams Boston Lager as some lighter beers that still have some taste if the harder stuff is too much for you. However, I would say that beer just in general is an acquired taste. I remember my first few times drinking it were not enjoyable in the slightest, but after a few times that shit becomes tasty as hell.

Blue Moon is a pretty decent starting beer. New Castle and Yuengling too although I'm not a fan of most Yuengling beers (they have a pretty good porter though) Personally I like stouts and porters they go down rather smoothly and have pretty great flavor. IPA's are too hoppy for me and if you're just starting I would advise avoiding those (at least for now.)

I always love your beer related posts Dalakaar especially all awesome bottle types you used to post. I'm pretty much a beer noob when it comes to the variety of beer I've tried so I'm gonna try some of your suggestions next time. Cheers! As for a personal suggestion for commercial beer, I'd say Guinness is pretty decent as well.
