Fallout 3 and 4 and Skyrim were such awful games riddled with bugs (down to 1 fps on Skyrim PS3 lol), extremely poor writing, nonsensical and uninspired quests, clunky UIs and just awful. GOTY! 9/10! Mods will fix it! You can go there (but not really)! It's always hilarious how selective gaming websites are with their criticisms and how inconsistent they are.

I think Fallout 4 did one thing right, or well the main story is actually ok, but the companions are great. They feel like that actually belong to the world, and their stories are varied and well written. They feel like actual characters. Something that surprised me because companions in Skyrim were packmules, well except Serana. Oh Serana, you stole my heart. I can't wait for them to expand upon companions when it comes to the next TES. I really like Fallout 4 companions as well even Preston(insert settlement joke here) and they are well written but I do feel like Fallout New Vegas companions were a little better. I love Piper and Cosworth but I'll trade them in a heartbeat for Cassie and Veronica. Oh my Sweet Rose of Sharon, Cass, the Whiskey Rose, be still my beating heart. Just listening to her cursing was enough to set me aflame.

The author sounds like he wants them to create a Skyrim or another ME1. I'm not interested in trying to trod the same ground, but I am interested in seeing what BioWare can do with attempting to infuse storytelling in an open world state.

You do realize the MP is a giant money maker for them right? Because MP requires pretty much zero effort to create as opposed to an AT LEAST decent single player campaign. There's nothing of substance to focus on, it's all point & shoot. Mass Effect games are supposed to be about the story, rite? Otherwise might as well clone & reskin COD. Noone will tell it's the same game.

I read the first 1/3 of the article and skimmed the rest. I agree with some things he says but disagree with most of it. However, I think he's damn right about this:
Both Mass Effect Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition feel shaped by trends in blockbuster triple-A, which distracts from the real strength of the studio – fostering an intimate feeling of investment and connection with characters, world and story
I've felt that Bioware has been on the road of Following Trends ever since EA's acquisition of them (which makes sense). In their most recent games, they strive to incorporate what is popular whether or not it would benefit their style of game development in order to appease gaming masses, masses that would have nothing to do with their games otherwise. I think this approach has done more harm than good and with Andromeda and what I've read about its development, it's just been getting worse. I'm speaking about an article recently posted on these forums where a dev (can't remember off the top of my head atm) had stated that they weren't quite sure what they should put in the game and strong emphasis was placed on what fans would like most and also where it was revealed that they spent a year trying to work a No Man's Sky influence into their game (I suspect it was abandoned after the crash and burn of said game upon its release). This tells me that focus was off on this game, no clear vision from the team on just what to do with Mass Effect and bold risk could not be taken.
They need to stop paying so much attention to what everyone else is doing. Bioware needs to come up with ideas for their games and buckle down on them, not get distracted by a new idea that seems cool and try to shove that into the mix during development. 9x out of 10, you'll end up making a mess and a weaker product. Focus, Focus, Focus!

Yeah both Bethesda & BioWare suck ass compared to CD Project Red when it comes to Sidequest/Sidecontent Quality period. :ulikeit: And CDPR sucks ass at giving me a protagonist I actually want to play. 6 of one, half dozen of the other. What is wrong with Geralt, apart from the fact that he is male?

That's probably the main reason. A lot of folks here like having a CC and a choice in who our protagonist is. Some don't want to play a 90 year old man.

For me, being a cold, lifeless character for a game and a half. He was well written in 2 and had some good moments in 3, but he still felt like a Gary Stu throughout all the games.

I just can't work up enough interest to even fire up TW3. I played TW2 and enjoyed it for what it was, I just can't get enough enthusiasm gathered up to do it again. I have no doubt TW3 is a great game though, and the way CDPR treats its fans is awesome beyond any other AAA studio. I just have more choices now in what kind of games I can play and what those games offer me. Its not like back when was a kid and there just weren't any games other than ones starring the big tough white dude. My tolerance for it just isn't what it used to be. I'd rather go play MET or Skyrim and make my own character.

Geralt is pretty much the ultimate male fantasy in a lot of ways: a complete bad ass who can pretty much have any women with no consequence (because he's infertile! How handy!), who all women desire to be with.
No wonder he's a popular character for a lot of people.

Boring, moody, broody, with a matching 'look at me, I'm so dark and cool'-voice. I think he's awful all around, and he's the main reason I never got into the Witcher.

Alot of people disliked Gerault true enough but if CDPR made an RPG that was the same quality of TW3 but with an Custom PC that we could make in an estinsive CC then all of their naysayers would be silenced.

CP2077 is still 2 or more years away though, that's why we don't hear anything about it.

There... THERE! There it is again! They depict DA:I as having better story-driven side quests than MEA? How? Why?
Dear game journalists, please go play Inquisition again and realize how much your glasses have already gotten rose-tinted since 2014!!
Also, best outcome of this would be EA going: "BioWare, you've been disappointing us. We gonna cut yo budget and yo gonna make more mid-sized game next" and then BioWare makes a Mass Effect CRPG in the vein of Planescape Torment

And yes, I am being a bit biased on that. Planescape is perhaps the apex of video game rpgs when it comes to creating story and progression. Only a few games hit that level..and it's still really freaking good compared to them. I'd rather Bioware just be bioware. They do that well still.
