So, I wind up with this: DAO-Female Aeducan stealthy Ranger archer rogue with traps, romancing Leliana DA2-Male Hawke dual wield dagger Duelist rogue combo enabler, romancing Merrill DAI-Female Adaar Spirit Necromancer support mage, romancing Iron Bull ...what I mentioned above about swapping for Qunari in Inquisition would really only come to pass if Qunari were unavailable for race selection in the sequel.. ...so the focus will be completely on Iron Bull.... After a lot of tinkering with my "grand design," I decided to go with mage for Inquisition, and save my warrior dwarf for the next game. I have been worried that the next game may not offer qunari, since the race is limited for viable roleplay options. You could have Tal-Vashoth, Vashoth like Inquisition, or possibly a practicing Qunari taken as a slave then becoming Tal-Vashoth, but definitely not an actual Qunari. If the series makes it to the fifth installment, I would like to have another qunari character, and I feel like it would make for better variety to have one with the Inquisition background.

This thread seems to have gotten away from the OP's original intent, which was to question whether the non-human race options in Inquisition are shallow. But since everyone's doing it...
Human warriors. Always human warriors.
And since somewhere along the line people started mentioning their romance options too...
Aedan Cousland x Leliana
Hawke x Sebastian (that's the plan, anyway. Haven't played through with a female Hawke yet, but I'm planning to on my next playthrough)
Inquisitor Trevelyan (I think my canon inquisitor will be named "Gabriel") x Josephine

the next game may not offer qunari, since the race is limited for viable roleplay options. That's true. It's a concern too, I like the Variety and if they take Qunari away permanently do I want to make my Quiz a Qunari for representation alone? Cullen's locked against a Qunari, and he's my canon. kinda how like the only city elf I can have is Trabis in Origins, so I feel relunctant to let her go in Origins. But I guess Origins is also the only access to a non Carta Dwarf. Although Tevinter could totally provide a noble dwarf background.

Part of the reason I chose a qunari over a dwarf for DAI is that I worry they'll either nix qunari as a playable race, or restrict us to a human-only protagonist in DA4. Also I don't think we'll ever get a lesbian (or any other) LI who's as thirsty for qunari as Sera is, so I've gotta take advantage while I can. 😎 (Personally I don't think they'll get rid of playable qunari now that they've done them, but you never know.)

Haven't played through with a female Hawke yet, but I'm planning to on my next playthrough) Inquisitor Trevelyan (I think my canon inquisitor will be named "Gabriel") x Josephine While not everyone has responded accordingly, I laid out my various reasons on determining character race, gender, and class in my first post. Inquisition is built primarily upon the Andrastian human and Chantry stories, but the other races offer plenty of roleplay opportunity. Since the review process missed a few details when they integrated race selection, some of the roleplay may require a little extra mental lifting. While the Qunari and dwarf can refuse the post of Herald, I enjoy being an Andrastian "other," and trying to gain acceptance. Elves have so many regions with their history, and plenty of secrets to uncover, so that race is never at a loss for depth. Elves just sometimes forget they are elves, so watch out for that. I think the race options are only as shallow as we perceive them to be.
