I have a feeling most people will say sarcastic but diplomatic and aggressive are great too, which is your favorite and why?

Diplomatic was a little too much of a goody two-shoes for me. Sarcastic was great, very funny, but overall I liked mostly aggressive with a little sarcastic thrown in. I used that on my Templar Hawke and she had so much personality, she was awesome. I was planning on leaving that Hawke you-know-where in DAI, but I loved her so much I just couldn't do it. She's by far my favourite.

Sarcastic, but somewhere I like to use the direct answers. The diplomatic answers only a few times seems usable for me.

Sarcastic is too funny to not be my favorite, but I still sometimes pick aggressive for those "I just can't take this bs anymore" moments, and sometimes diplomatic to avoid being a total ass (Ninette's ring and Seamus' death). My last game I played diplomatic and she was just so sweet it made my teeth hurt. Until DAI, and then she was grumpy just like every other Hawke.

I've only played aggressive Hawke, with some sarcastic and a few diplomatic responses mixed in. She was a 2H warrior, so it seemed to fit, and then I ended up really liking it. I plan to go the sarcastic route next time, though. You'd be grumpy too if you were chased out of Kirkwall after everything you did to try to help. I think Hawke is ready to retire.

Sarcastic Hawke for suuuure. With some nice responses of course so he can sound somewhat human. It would be weird to have sarcastic responses in some situations in the game.
Actually, playing a sarcastic Hawke in one playthrough made me reconsider this game because before that I hate HATED Hawke.

Sometimes Sarcastic, but more Agressive. Hawke seems to be someone shortly patient, he's trying to be understanding until he quickly became irritate. I have noticed this difference in personality betwen Hawke and the Inky, especially when they met in Skylhold, Hawke is more direct, pretty raw.

Though I do have to say Sarcastic Hawke has the best lines, and it is my favourite, he can get a bit too much for me. So I prefer to have him diplomatic, peppered with sarcasm here and there ('Selling out his own... He should be a politician!' ).

Sarcastic is funny...and usually safe. I use one or the other diplomatic or aggressive options, but usually I hesitate to try them since I'm afraid I might not like what they actually say, and the thrice-damned paraphrasing prevents me from knowing in advance. I just wish I had some influence on the auto-dialogue in certain scenes - these are usually scenes important enough that being sarcastic comes across as crazy or at least extremely inappropriate.

I tried all personality types. Still, sarcastic's lines (and reactions of companios/NPCs to them) are just priceless. |So yeah. Sarcastic is my favourite. Though whenever I play, I like to throw in some diplomatic/aggresive line once in a while.

Sarcastic, I don't think I really need to explain why seeing how popular it is. But diplo and aggressive also have some wonderfully amusing lines, if played by a primarily sarcastic Hawke, so I can't help but pick them. Like, there's one diplo line that has Hawke bowing and asking Elthina for a blessing in this really over the top sincere way. I about died when my pro mage sarcastic Hawke did that.

Aggressive is my favourite, but only after Leandra dies. It felt liberating to finally be bitchy in that cesspool after everything that's happened to Hawke. The lines are priceless, too. "Tallis: What do you call it when you kill people and take all their stuff?" "Aggressive Hawke: Tuesday." Huh, that sounds more like a sarcastic line to me. Still funny though. Anyway, I voted sarcastic even though I don't see them as "personalities", except by force in DA:I. I don't see Renegade/Paragon as distinct personalities either, in the sense that you don't pick one at character creation and see what happens. You make each choice and dialogue decision individually, so logically most people shouldn't pick one 100% of the time, just like you wouldn't in ME or DA:I, with their similar 3-choice wheels. So, I played a mix that suited each situation. Mostly sarcastic - it was Hawke's coping mechanism. Next was some diplomatic, with the occasional sprinkle of aggressive when called-for.

Diplomatic. Hated Aggressive and Sarcastic was even worse. Well, that's why I talked about not having to only use one "personality". Surely there was at least one middle or bottom option that you chose/liked? I agree that sometimes aggressive is overboard, or sarcastic is disrespectful (and diplomatic is sometimes dumb too), but I can just choose something else there. Huh, that sounds more like a sarcastic line to me. Still funny though. ...snip... It's definitely aggressive Hawke. Sarcastic says "Adventuring!" I think. I love aggressive Hawke for lines like that. Oh, I wasn't disbelieving it, it just sounds like something Purple!Hawke would say That may be true, but unfortunately without better paraphrasing I'm destined to miss some great lines

That particular line in MotA is auto-dialogue after clicking on a scenery hotspot. Whichever personality Hawke favors will determine the response. I believe the diplomat replies with "Murder." Such a buzz-kill.

My first play through was diplomatic mostly with a dip into sarcastic occasionally.
My second play through, I was committed to Sarcastic Hawke 99%
Now I'm tryibg to play a 99% angry Hawke. I haven't enjoyed it very much so far, but mostly because the angry seems watered down. Sometimes he's just gruff (lame). Other times, he's just a rude jerk. And then multiple people respond really oddly. Varric has apologised for me twice to the people I was talking to. When I angry Hawke'd Aveline, a person I expected to set me straight on boundaries, she actually apologized for putting me in a foul mood. And I told my own mother that I was glad I'd never met my grandparents because they sounded like jerks....and she just rolled along as if I'd said nothing.
There was only one moment that it's made me laugh, and that's when Angry Hawke told Flemyth to go away. "Didn't I say I didn't need your help?" I've always been to scared too be anything but respectful to the old lady so I was like @_@ oh my gosh, she's gonna kill me.
Now, I've only gotten through half of act 1, so I still got quite a lot to hear, but as of now, Sarcastic Hawke wins in every level. Sarcastic Hawke could be rude too, but it was always silly rude that made me laugh.

Maybe that's why it seems watered down? I really like aggressive Hawke, as it seemed to fit my 2H warrior well, but I agree with you that in some cases, the aggressive response is inappropriate. (Although, that's also true of diplomatic and sarcastic in other cases.) I don't think I'd be able to stick with a single personality 99% of the time, personally. You just need to choose it enough for that personality to come through in autonomous responses, anyway

You just need to choose it enough for that personality to come through in autonomous responses, anyway I'm being sarcastic with Isabella, Bethany, and Anders. I want to be friends with the first two, and rival mance Anders. But I'd read that if you're angry at Anders, he won't flirt with you; as I want to see the romance where he's the aggressor as opposed to me going after him from the first conversation. Flirt free, sarcasm, rivalmance with Anders is my goal. I'm probably disappointed because I am attempting to role play a Dexter like sociopath who gets off on murdering people in cold blood. So, after a dagger to Lord Harrimand's head, this Hawke spent a gold at the Blooming Rose. Oh well. I love Dragon Age too much to not have a good time no matter the outcome.
