Tomato plants are bearing fruit by the handful. Got one banana pepper already and two more are growing. Poblano seems healthy, but isn't growing any peppers for some reason Thyme is doing well as is the basil. Thai Basil WAS doing fine, but seems to have gotten sickly all of a sudden Sage seems to have died. Oregeno in not much better shape. Mint is going strong, despite staying on the porch.

I have to pick peas again today, they are doing well. Tomatoes are a bit of a disappointment, my lettuce is great, onions are great. Lots of beans though i am not a huge fan of beans too often. I decided to try and pickle a bunch of them.

Today I had to go to my potato batch and pick potato beetles to squash them - got at least two dozen. I don't like killing living beings just like that, even if they are insects. But a wonderful garden is not always fun and sometimes its even nasty business.

Cook the beans and bake out some bacon cut in tiny cubes.
Have some sliced onions glazed in butter, add some tomatoes in parts on low heat. Once the tomatoes give off their 'juice and colour' to the onions, add the cooked beans and the baked out bacon with the bacon fat.
A nice complete meal and a different way to eat the beans.
Try it!

We had a single carrot this year lol.
Because of the unusual heat wave this year most of our veggies aren't growing properly. The only ones who love the weather are the tomatoes. They grow under a roof however.
Good berry season and apples and pears are growing like crazy. Most apples are falling off the tree right now however. 80% of the plums were infested by worms. I'm still hopeful for the peaches. They always taste great even when half of them rot faster than you can eat them.
Onions didn't grow properly. Extremely unhappy about that...
Pumpkins are way too small too. Cucumbers are turning yellow when they're still small. Beans didn't really grow either.
The lettuce is a disaster too of course.
I think I need to finally build a big greenhouse for real next year!

My tomatoes have gone insane. The peas never really took off and the peppers are barely producing. I can't even see the strawberries, as the tomatoes grew across the entire planting bed!
At least my perennials seem to be happy for the most part. The hibiscus is huge and covered with flowers right now. My dwarf cherry has tiny leaves and doesn't seem to be growing any, but I'm hoping it's setting deep roots and will take off next year. The summer savory and lovage are growing beautifully and my elderberries are exploding. Next year I expect a cherry berry front yard. (fingers crossed)

Harvested my first couple parsnips today. They're not as big as usually due to several periods of severe drought, but still more than acceptable. Nearly all are about as big a soda can or a little bigger and extremely tasty.

This place needs flowers! sadly only 2 of my 6 petunia seedlings survived this season, it hasn't been nice weather for those. I only started planting flowers again a couple of months ago though, and the first a red flower I don't know the name of is entering its second bloom session, it must have had over 14 flowers at once on such a tiny plant a few weeks back, now it's blooming again after nothing the past few weeks (normal). I also added pink Azalea and it is doing alright. Just hoping I don't lose the 2 surviving petunias now I have native shrubs - various bottlebrushes, one of which survived being sprayed with weedkiller (not by me, mum has never lived that down though) and two are starting to get too big! and they are not even close to their max size for the genus.

Organised building/setting up a new proper flowerbed next weekend hopefully! my pretty flowers deserve an awesome garden bed. I want some long pots to hang along my balcony railing too. But that's a project for another motivated month lmao.

Thumbs up for planting the bees some food, they have a real tough time lately, and that all around the world. I don't plant flowers in my garden but I have several patches with wild growing stuff on them, I don't touch them and leave them be completely natural so the insects have some natural habitat with old rotting wood, dried grass and wild flowers. I even got some fireflies, dragonflies and tiny water bats that hunt and eat them! I live in a rural area that is also very heavily farmed, my garden is like an oasis for all the insects that get their asses kicked by the agricultural chemicals.

I live in a rural area that is also very heavily farmed, my garden is like an oasis for all the insects that get their asses kicked by the agricultural chemicals. I live in the middle of an Australian city. Can't really do much in my yard, even though it's sizable, as the slope is horridly steep. it has some banana trees at the back - never had bananas though. I just like my flowering stuff, the shrubs attract bees and honeyeaters, as well as stopping my back fence from sliding into the back-neighbour's place as they do not have a retaining wall, just a steep drop just on the other side of my fence. I'm a little fearful of erosion in that regard but the shrubs help keep everything in place soil-wise there. The little flower plants aren't as helpful yet but they're there for being pretty. I definitely get a good amount of bees visiting, which is good. They help my plants as much as my plants help them.

Okay, I saw ashaantha talking about plants that aren't edible, and I have a few things I've got that are alive and I wanted to continue to hijack your nice garden thread. I've got a few little cacti kicking around, but no recent photos, just these wee little Saguaro I started from seed about 2 months ago: In about 150 years, maybe it'll look like this: yeah... no, that's not going to happen... but I can enjoy them for a while at least On that same note, I also started this Ocotillo: Aaain, probably not going to happen, but this is what they look like out in the world... And here's one my African Violets blowing out the phonecam. Please pardon the potato pics (not literal potatoes... like Beerfish MIGHT have had if someone hadn't stolen all of his).

So, technically this doesn't really count as gardening, but I just had to share the fat mushroom loot my dad brought from the forest a week ago. Over 7 kg worth of the finest 'shrooms you'll find, and he even didn't take everything he found because "other people should get their share as well". (Naturally, I tried to talk him into going back to get more, but he refused and told me to go myself. We didn't get more. xD) Fun fact: the main purpose of his visit to the forest was jogging, so he didn't have anything to carry them. He weirdly tied together his windbreaker, stuffed them inside and carried them for a few km.

I'm going to harvest my potatoes today before they get eaten up by mice. The samples I've taken look really promising, each individual plant has at least 5 big potatoes on it. And that with absolutely zero pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
