For those of us who's team should have been in the Superbowl, Panthers , the 2019 regular season starts tentatively on September 5th. I will take leave of this thread now. The play I mentioned in Q1 of the Super Bowl was the last straw for me; the NFL is a mockery of actual football. That one play broke their brand for me, and I can honestly say I won't watch a single game next year.

Sorry, had to jump back in for the ratings...
Worst Super Bowl viewership in a long time. And me, a lifelong fan, quit watching in the 2nd quarter in disgust with your brand of football. The decline is real, and will continue.
There will be a day in my lifetime (I say mine because I'm older than many here) that the NFL no longer exists. They have done this to themselves.

I've been thinking that I'll end my viewership with Rodgers's career. When he's done as a player, I'm done as a fan. Whereas I was too young to really watch much of Jordan in his prime, I am really fortunate to have seen A-Rod's wizardry (and, hell, many of Favre's years) in my lifetime and will probably never see a QB play that well for my team ever again. I am still watching to see him work his magic, and hopefully see him get more rings.

I had to move on SB weekend, and just barely got the TV ready for the first quarter. I know many didn’t enjoy the game, but I thought it was great. I love defensive football. Both defenses were great. The keys seemed to be the Pats thoroughly outcoacing the Rams staff, and the adaptability and experience of the Pats players.
The Rams could’ve won this game had McVay not been so thoroughly outcoached. The Pats had to dig Dee to put points on Wade’s D, but McVay never got his Offense moving at all. It’s it the first time Belichick dominated an opposing coach. Who knows whether it will be the last on this stage? It has to end some day, but today is not that day! (Were I a Pats fan, I’d grab an Aragorn pic and make the meme.)

The Rams could’ve won this game had McVay not been so thoroughly outcoached. I would say it's more that McVay couldn't make the adjustments needed to get his offense moving. Similar to what Rivera, coach of my Panthers failed to do against the Broncos in Superbowl 50. You remember how the Broncos defense was giving Newton fits? To fix that, put in a 6th OL. A perfect example is earlier that year the Broncos played the Raiders. What the Raiders did was use a 6th OL to slow down the rush. It worked, They won the game, and at the same time had good gains running the ball. Back to McVay. I would have put Gurley in the slot for a quick pass. Have Goff run to his right to give him more time to see the field and to know where he has an open receiver. The other thing, as I mentioned, is put in an extra OL.

I feel like it'd have been a different game if Gurley had not suddenly become ineffective. I can't imagine he was not injured in some significant capacity, no matter how much they want to deny it. Something looked off with him. A running-game might have also helped take some of the pressure of the young QB.

Gotta say, though, it's hard not to second-guess Green Bay's decision to hire anyone not-named Josh McDaniels after yet another Pats SuperBowl victory. Say what you want about him, the guy just gets how to run an offense, and we only have so much time left with our current QB.

(I find it hard to swallow what he did to the Colts, though I’m definitely happy with how it worked out for Coach Reich.) It’s hard to gauge McDaniels’ motivations. If he isn't trying to wait out Belichick, what is he doing? It is certainly possible that he simply loves his current job, loves winning SBs, and wants to ride that train to the end of the line. I’d likely feel exactly that way, in his shoes. He’s young enough that he’ll have years ahead long after Brady and Belichick are retired. He can afford to fully enjoy the present.

He interviewed for the Packers gig, turned down a request to interview with the Bengals, then said he would not entertain any more offers after we hired LaFleur. 'Seems like he only wants to go to an ideal situation, and is happy to stay put (potentially inheriting Belichick's job) if said situation does not present itself.

Despite your clear reference to it, I had completely forgotten that he’d interviewed with the Packers.
