Hello fellow survivors! I've been going back and forth with Fallout 4, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. I love the series, the franchise (going back to Bioware's subsidiary studio, Black Isle) and Bethesda's version of open-world, single-player experience. However, there is nothing more frustrating when you're pulled out of immersion to ask yourself, "What... the... fffffffffffffffff****?"
I started this thread for Fallout fans who happen to like Bioware's games as well. Since a lot of studios use the best elements of other games and incorporate them into their own, I thought I would point out some terrible, horrible, stupid, idiotic, asinine, etc. issues in the Fallout universe that just fail.
Example #1 (Scenario): Settlement defensive posture: This is a post-apocalyptic environment where 9-1-1 doesn't exist so it's absolutely vital that you leave your settlements protected so settlers can get on with their lives. Fallout 4 dictates how it's going to be done: Posted sentries and automated turret defenses.
Example #1 (Immersion Breaker): Sanctuary has a defensive rating of 612. That's beyond necessary by almost 400 points, but I had a lot of junk... Anyway, how do raiders kidnap a sentry (still wearing tier-3 combat clothing, armed with a minigun with 350 rounds of 5mm ammo and a stealthboy) all the while not triggering the four missile turrets and spotlight that are setup by the guard post? There is no backstory on how he got captured in full gear (and left to carry) and the fact that this sentry has four kills using that minigun on a super-mutant patrol.
Example #2 (Scenario): Outpost locations. Fallout 4 pre-selects your locations. You can only settle where there is a workshop.
Example #3 (Immersion Breaker): WTF. Why am I trying to settle into what amounts to be a crater (Coastal Cottage) which is nearby a Deathclaw's favorite hunting spot? Makhra Fishing Plant, a concrete behemoth surrounded by water, already has defensive battlements in place and has pre-built structures like a trailer in place. I don't know how many times I've had to replace turrets, recruit replacement settlers and build up even more defenses (a defensive wall, quite literally) to keep raiders, deathclaws, super-mutants and occasional Synth patrol from completely overrunning the outpost. That's not fun. That's just busywork because you're placed in a losing situation from the start.
So what about you guys?

Yeah. There's a reason why FO4 is considered to be the worst FO in the franchise. Shitton of bad design choices and they didn't carry anything learned from NV. The fact that whether or not a bullet is explosive or cryo or whatever depends on a "legendary modifier" in the gun itself instead of the ammunition used by the gun, already shows how gamey their design choices were for this title.

One time in FO4, I went to help out some BoS soldiers who were at an outpost getting attacked by either mutants, ghouls, or raiders. After the fighting was over, I had a dialogue scene with one of the soldiers, and behind him a car or some other piece of equipment exploded (it must have been hit in the firefight) to the apparent complete indifference of everybody.

One thing that's odd in all three games is how dead bodies just get left sitting out in the open indefinitely, at least in certain locations. Even if people are more used to death in this world, you'd think the decay, the smell, and the scavenger factor would eventually motivate people to do *something* with these bodies.
One time in FO3, after parting ways with Sydney at Rivet City, she must have run into Talons or somebody at the nearest entrance to the underground that she takes back to that museum where all the ghouls are camped out, because I found her lying dead there later on. Eventually I gave her a "burial at sea" by picking up the body and dropping it in that river that you have to cross to get to Rivet City.
