Evolve Stage 2 is a free-to-play strictly class based co-op PVE or PVP first person shooter and 'monster simulator' CryEngine game developed by Turtle Rock Studios and published by 2K. I got into this game about 10 days ago, mostly because it is free and it has gorgeous graphics. I was not expecting it to be this good at all. After 38 hours playing it I can say that I am pleasantly surprised by it. Any PC player is welcome to add me for a few or many games. Steam ID: SpaceV3gan And please, let's share your thoughts and experience with this game!

I got the game (and one or two DLC's) back when it wasn't free, I had fun with it for a time. Then I found it harder to play as the monster and then stopped playing after a re-install went wonky.
Now with all the hunters being able to dome you and having the planetary scan it seems like a lot of the fun has gone out of the game. No more sneaking around hiding in bushes waiting to ambush the hunters. It's just run a lot and feed while trying to avoid them.

I might give it a try but on paper it's not a change that would suit my tastes.

No more sneaking around hiding in bushes waiting to ambush the hunters. It's just run a lot and feed while trying to avoid them. Pretty much this. I might give it a try but on paper it's not a change that would suit my tastes. From what I have read from 'legacy players', I gotta say your point of view is very common. The game today is a more fast-paced one, with more dome encounters taking place. There is still some downtime and running around in circles, but usually a lot less than there used to be. Some people have welcomed these chances, while others said the game lost its identity in order to have a more popular appeal. Nevertheless, the game today has a playerbase as large as the one back in March 2015. Since the game needs its playerbase in order to survive, I would say these changes as well as going free-to-play were smart moves from Turtle Rock in order to keep the game alive.

Yeah but how much is of that down to free to play though? If it becomes so easy to find the monster what's the point of the tracker? Plus the maps are so tiny.

Being free-to-play doesn't necessarily bring people to play it. The game has to feel satisfying and rewarding, and I believe that is why these changes happened. Matches are a bit faster and action packed, people get more silver keys, they unlock stuff, rinse and repeat. If matches were still 20-minute long, predominantly downtime, I guess it would be less appealing for the masses. Also I am not sure if the Trapper Class was called Tracker at some point, but today it is called Trapper. And its role is pretty much as it is called, trapping and slowing the monster down, other than finding it obviously. Though if you ask me I would say as the game stands today, the Trapper is the least interesting and also the least relevant class.

I played it when it was orriginally released. I tried the open beta and found the gameplay very interesting. However it had serious MM issues. I hated being put into monster role against hunter premades (I suck as monster).
It bled so much players that finding a balanced match was almost impossible - the asymmetrical gameplay led to experienced players roflstomping the opposition often. Or you had the fucking wraith goose chase where no battle took place instead it was just running around. I mostly stuck to solo or coop later, but the ai was pretty predictable.
I uninstalled the game shortly before it went f2p since I hadn't really played it anymore - the stupid exclusive shit with consoles and their fucking patching delay because of "certification" pretty much gave it the rest for me. I still enjoyed it for some time - if you can find a balanced match setup you might have some fun.
