Hidy ho all,
I've just imported my character from DA1 (+awakening, golems of amgorak, and witch hunt) into 2. And I found out I have some DLC statues sitting in my starter home. My question is, when is the best time to complete the DLC? Right at the beginning? After the first chapter? Some other point?

You can do them any time you want. However, Mark of the Assassin has a few different banter options if Hawke has a love interest, so you might want to wait until you have a romance locked in.
Legacy, on the other hand, I think is more poignant in act 3, due to something that happens late in act 2. I'm guessing this is your first PT, so I can't say much else without spoilers.

Both good points, but I will add this: MOTA is about leaving Kirkwall to steal a jewel. Banter aside, this is a lot more believable in Act 1 when Hawke is essentially a fortune hunter. Some serious sh*t starts to go down from the beginning of Act 2 and I found it difficult to swallow that Hawke would abandon the city for a heist after that point. Then again, presumably the DLCs will be a lot harder if you are low-level.

I think that's a bit more believable after Hawke has re-established the family or become Champion. So, mattig89ch, looks like you've got plenty of justification no matter when you decide to do Mark of the Assassin

Forgot to add, you get a pretty cool weapon in Legacy, with stats based on your level once you find it. So if you play Legacy too early in the game, this weapon will end up being lower-level rather than being awesome. And if you're on PC, there's an exploit you can use to make it even better. Not sure if the exploit exists on console. Personally, I find it most fitting to do both DLC immediately as Act 3 begins. I like to pretend that both DLC happen between Act 2 and 3. But yeah, the enemies in both DLC are going to be kinda rough if you go in early. I like to pretend the same thing

That really is up to you. Personally, I like to do Legacy early Act 2 and MotA at the beginning of Act 3. But that's just my personal preference (after trying playing them in different Acts).

I am another that does them at the start of Act 3. That just always made more sense to me.

I usually do them both in Act 3 as well. If you are romancing Fenris, I would recommend doing Legacy either in Act 2 after the romance scene or in Act 3 before doing Fenris' quest. The banter doesn't really make sense otherwise.

Thanks all! I'm going after Merril, mostly because she's adorable (that innocence, the voice actor was great how she played her). So after her romance quest in 2, but before 3 is when I'm planning to do Legacy. Though given its her or the pirate lady, I'd rather not run the risk of catching something.

Legacy and Assassin can be done at any time. If you have a LI, extra dialogue will occur if LI is brought for the dlc in act 3. Bring Carver/Bethany on Legacy for extra dialogue with them.
If Legacy is completed before Leandra is killed, she has a scene with her children talking about their father.

I do Legacy in early Act 2 and MotA in Act 3. I find at those times the DLCs have the most content offered.

Also good points Although, the actual reason Hawke is in any position to steal the jewel in the first place is because bigshot Orlesian "whats-his-name" invites Hawke to his party. I think that's a bit more believable after Hawke has re-established the family or become Champion. If you do Mark of the Assassin in Act 1, wasn't the explanation given is that the invitation was not meant for Hawke, but for Leandra, as Prosper's mother was great friends with the Amell family? Duke Prosper's reasons for sending the invitation may have been because he didn't know that the Amell family having fallen on hard times, out of respect for their noble lineage, as fodder for the other nobles to smirk at, or because he didn't expect anyone to actually show up (I can imagine Gamlen never RSVP'd), especially not Leandra's children. Storywise, I like to do Mark of the Assassin at the start of Act 3. I think it fits how Hawke mentions they get a ton of invitations to various events and the situation with Mages and Templars is sour enough that skipping town for a while to attend an Orlesian shindig might be a good idea. Legacy is probably best done just before the endgame in Act 3, because the banter shows off certain characters overall development from where they were at the start of the game, it nicely wraps some things up with the Hawke family and sets up the main antagonist for Inquisition.

I always save Legacy and Mark of the Assassin for Act 3. Playing both episodes during Act 3 helps extend the length of that Act, as otherwise its low number of main quests make it the shortest part of the game. It also helps to save both DLCs until you're at least level 20 for 2 reasons, the difficulty of the encounters will be more manageable with better stats and gear, and the looted rewards in each DLC are set and scale to the level you're at when the DLC starts.

Do Assassin before Act 3. The first time I played Assassin, I did it after Act 3 started and felt real dirty once I found out who I was working for. As stated above, Legacy is good in Act 3.

I like to fight the end game battle of DA2 with the weapon from Legacy because of the feels of that idea. And I played Legacy start to mid act 3,and was coming upon weapons of equal value in end Act 3 that made me wish that I'd waited until just before the last game mission so the weapon would not have time to become obsolete.
I feel like playing MOTA at the very start of Act 3 makes better sense. Any later is just weird due to what is happening in Kirkwall really needing your attention.
And give lots of attention to the Pirate. She's slippery.

He was hard enough with a fully levelled party on normal, especially with Tallis. Exactly. At low level nobody would be able inflict heavy damage on him to stop him from using his stupid one-shot-kill AOE spirit attack. Even alpha wyran fight would be challenging. Or the final boss. Or those stupid saarebas ( hated those things). No.. Don't go there until late act 2.

It was some time since I played DA2 and totally forgot the story in details, only remembered some facts of outcomes. Anyway, I did Legacy in Act1 with Bethany and it was good. A little cheesy at first, but then it turned out quite epic with the journals of the wardens and what they attempted to do with the "Darkspawn". p.s. I even made a video of the endboss (we are around level 19 in Act1 because of some mod to reach lvl 50. I don't really like it, too much pling and you have no idea where to invest all those points into. Wish I hadn't used it.):

I like doing Legacy at the beginning or middle of Act II. Usually after I started a romance (in my case always with Fenris mostly because his awkward dialogue is hilarious when mixed with Varric) and I do Mark of the Assassin at the beginning of Act III, again after the romance is locked in. Dialogue is more fun this way. But you really can do them anytime you want.

Me too. The banter with Fenris in Legacy doesn't make sense unless you do it at a certain time in the romance. Otherwise, anytime is good, but I prefer later in the game rather than earlier for both DLCs.

I have 2 questions. I recently bought all the dlc, all except the individual item packs like "Rogue Items", I bought the two master packs instead. But anyway I bought "Mark of the assassin" and "Legacy", how do I know they're installed properly? And how do I access all the dlc content in game?

But anyway I bought "Mark of the assassin" and "Legacy", how do I know they're installed properly? And how do I access all the dlc content in game? If you have bought both All Item Packs and all other DLC`s then you have everything released for DA2. Both All Item Packs contains the Rogue, Warrior and Mage packs. To verify if everything is installed, start the game, then go to "DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT" menu to see the list of every DLC installed. The list of installed DLC`s in on the left of the new window. You will have Rogue Item Pack, Warrior Item Pack, Mage Item Pack, respectively Rogue Item Pack II, Warrior Item Pack II, Mage Item Pack II listed. Look at the list and see if every DLC you have bought. More than that: You are entitled to also download some free items for DA2, including weapons, rings, amulets, belts and Ser Isaac`s Armor. You need to log into your Bioware account: social.bioware.com/login.php?return_url=/user_entitlements.phpThen if you are not at the "Your registered game content" page, go to My Games/Your registered game content from the menu under your account avatar. Once there, scroll down and see if the free content is available to opt-in, including the Fan Reward Pack. Then you can either download these small install files and install them by double click, or start DA2 again and allow the game to download the for you. If any of the purchased content was not installed by DA2 automatically, you can also download the installers and install them from "Your registered game content" page. All new content will start automatically at the right time, except Legacy and Mark of the Assassin. These two will be accessible by clicking on a distinctive statue which will appear on Hawke`s home in all 3 acts. The rest of the content will be available only when Hawke & Co starts Act 1 in Kirkwall. The only exception is the dog from "The Black Emporium" DLC who will "teleport" near Hawke at the start of the Prologue proper (after the first fake battle told by Varric). The items will be found in chests at Hawke`s home. The Exiled Prince will start by meeting Sebastian somewhere in Kirkwall.
