For me, the game needed if not a whole year,at least 6 more months. That being said, along with some a different marketing approach and a lack of a preview on EA access would have made a huuuge difference. Someone with technical knowledge may be able to further clarify, but my understanding is that a week's development effort before launch is equal to 2-3 weeks patching effort afterwards. So a two-month delay could accomplish what 6 months of patching would achieve. I recall this was shared by a BioWare dev when DAi was finally delayed for 6 weeks. Really?I didn't know that So the game would have been in a much better state if it was a summer than a spring release . Speaking of bugs,my funniest had to be the layered enemies in the skies of Kadara bug.Let me elaborate: I d come across exiles and from the group one sharpshooter would be in the sky hovering, not moving.I killed him,he d fall from the sky revealing another copy underneath. I lt would happen like 2 -3 times, meaninh I killed the enemy 3 times already watching 3 corpses fall from the sky,but when I went closer there wpukd be only one bodh to loot.

I saw an interview the creative director (I think it was him?) of Anthem gave to a YT presener where he said that "humans are at the bottom of the food chain" something like that.

Even as a person very critical towards MEA, I will say that the game is worth getting.Especially now that the price is dropping. It may not have been one of the most enjoyable experiences to me due to bugs, chaotic UI and me overall not being as engaged with the story but it did keep me good company for the 80+ hours I played for. I would never recommend not buying it.

Being 60+++, I am sad the sorry state of female/male or male/female relations have become. One antagonistic hate fest, that's progress it seems!!! I am a woman and a gamer and sadly in my country not many girls play video games so if I have to olay co-op or MP I play with men.I have played video games with all ages ranging from boys like my 11 yo nephew to men in their 50s and I also volunteer and write for a gaming website where all tbe coleagues are guys and not once have I ever felt being treated badly, disrespectfully.I am treated kindly. So far I have been very lucky. Of course there are assholes online and no one can hide from trolls and if I ever come across a shitty person I bet that shitty person talks like that to eveyone. It is not gender related. Anyway.sorry for the off topic.I responded because of a comment a bit above the quoted one.

Sorry for the spam .I know I could just edit my post and add new text but I am on my phone and it is acting up.
To the naysayers, think of it like this. the OT is a fantastic experience but it belongs to the previous generation and we 're already at the point where current gen is being pushed forward and before we know it the OT will be 2 console generations ago. There are younger gamers who will never even touch a PS3 or Xbox360 or bother to play older games on their PCs.Especially a game like ME1 that remains clunky to this day, even though it is an amazing game. For example, I have missed many older games that were masterpieces because I was too young when they were released and now either the mechanics, interface, controls and visuals are too outdated for me to even start trying to enjoy. I 'm trying to say that the younger generations might miss out on ME.So it would be nice if BW revitalized the series in the future or if another studio just picked it up . I wouldn't mind seeing another studio making a Mass Effect game as long as it is good.If BW doesn't feel like making ME games anymore, only bad results will come out by being forced to.
Sorry for the typos in my posts

Oh and before someone tells the OP or anyome supporting this reboot idea to let it go...I think the OPs point is more about saving the ME franchise as a ehole, especially Andromeda. Not about particularly getting Shepard back.Aheoard is there for me to play forever and ever if I want to. What I am saying is the point of the OP isn't "bohoo I wantz muh Shepurd"...It is anout saving the franchise and reviving it.

Actually, this is a very very solid idea. Nice post. I don't now if I 'd be ever on board for an actua reboot.I was more on the lines of remaster the trilogy as it is even if I hated the ending, stealthily add the Initiative to the lorr by adding datapads entries, news broadcasts, posters on the Citadel,Codex entries etc,add all DLC ,put a nice N7 bow on it and sell sell sell...But I like this idea.Like, a lot. It is actually brilliant. You basically don't just kill 2 birds with 1 stone. You take down a whole damn flock.
First and foremost, the canon is not exactly changed of ruined.Stories when told by word of mouth ,always details are changed so any potential minor or major story change can just be attributed to how much the story has changed over time.Meaning your canon Shepard still did the things he or she did. Then, get to make the Andromeda Initiative a proper part of the lore, not just a shoehorned piece that doesn't make sense. Also, this would benefit the franchise by making it easier to continue and it wold benefit the Andromeda saga.

I love Mass Effect ,it is my favourite game series and I am sad I got a subpar ME game. I don't feel abandoned though...If BW Edmonton felt the urge to create something entirely new,it is not my place to judge. Better get a new I.P. than an unispired Mass Effect game. It pains to say it but that is how I feel. I.played MEA for 80+ hours, I was unlucky enough ton run into many bugs but I kinda enjoyed it. It tired me a lot , but I soldiered through to do as much as I could and enjoy it and finish it. I did grow a bit attached to my Ryder and some of the other characters but not strong enough. At this point, I would only like to see DLC or Expansion for closure that concludes the Ryder story overall. Then ,I wish for BW to deliver a good DA4 and Anthem. Possibly, years later they could touch the ME fanchise again and even give usnthe OT remaster+All DLC we've been asking for.
Anyway, I 'll tell you when I felt betrayal and abandonment.I felt it when BW decided to stop talking to their fans and shutting the official forums to favor platforms like Twitter where...ironically enough, they are actually getting a lot of hate from regardless.Just check any Anthem tweet.Negative after negative response with maybe 5 oositive commments.

Honestly I think the Edmonton studio just wanted to do something different after eight years (Preproduction for the first game began in 2004) on one property (A lot of them were probably feeling pretty burnt out after the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle) and started pitching new ideas to EA. EA apparently like Anthem's, but they still wanted another Mass Effect game, so they spun off the Montreal studio (Which had experience developing the ME3 multiplayer) to fill that gap. I don't think there was any intention to sabotage, abandon or discard the franchise, no matter how much some fans would like to have had Edmonton staff chained to their desks to churn out more Mass Effect until the end of time. These are creative people, they probably leapt at the chance to develop a new IP (Not something game developers get to do that often these days). I know people are resentful of the switch, but honestly it sounds like Andromeda could have been a much much stronger game if they had stronger vision and hadn't gotten sidetracked by the siren song of procedurally generated planets. You can say "Edmonton wouldn't have done that," and blame the Montreal devs for poor project management, and you could be right, but treating this as some sort of abandonment is silly. Edmonton had no desire to see Andromeda fail and they have no obligation to keep repeating the same forms of gameplay you happen to enjoy. If you don't like, don't buy and express your disappointment, but don't misunderstand your relationship with the devs. Unless they lie about what they intend to do, there is no betrayal of trust. By all means express your disappointment at the direction, but Bioware has no obligation to produce the particular forms of games you prefer. I don't know if Anthem started out the way it is or if EA asked them to make a Destiny competitor later and they adapted the concept, but they've promised that the Bioware style of storytelling will continue. I'll wait and see if they deliver. Pretty much this post nails it for me as it sums up my thoughts neatly. .I share the exact same sentiment .

Is there any chance we ll see DA4 in Gamescom? Will BW be there at all?
The wait is killing me. I may not be as huge nerd with DA as I am with ME but I love it all the same. I played Trespasser earlier this year, after having finished the game a year before and I looooved it.Consider it one of the best DLC BW has ever produced in any game. I need more DA in my life. I thoroughly enjoyed DAI despite the negative criticism and it ws the only game I actually managed to make a doppelganger of myself, which made it more immersive as far as rp goes.

Even in this reply ,it comes off as very defensive. No one is attacking you anf if you think MP games are only played by a bunch of preteens screaming abuse only, then you are wrong. It really depends on the game you're talking about.Yes,GTAV and COD tend to have young audiences. My 11 yo nephew likes those.Sure. But if you look at other games like BF whose online games are more tactical and complex or Destiny which overall has a great community then you would see a different audience.E.g. I am and I am usually the youngest of all the group when playing Destiny. The others range from early 30s to even 50s in age. Anthem wants to kinda be like Destiny but with a unique Bioware touch,so naturally I expect maturity from the game and the audience it will attract.Hopefully, it will be that way. Yeah, well, I'm not interested in shooters in the first place. That's just not my kind of game. It's not to take away from anyone else's enjoyment of certain games, it's just that it should come to noone's surprise that fans of a RPG producing company usually aren't on their knees when they announce something like a competitive online shooter. They already said it wouldn't be an RPG. I totally understand why people are bummed.I do and I agree for the most part.I just feel the negativity is a bit too much for a game that isn't even out there yet. It 's like some eho used to say "Don't criticize Andromeda too much!Support Bioware !blah blah etc." are the first to abandon the company they staunchly defended 2 months ago.Anyway. I may play some MP but believe me I am not a MP person, certainly not a very social one either. But MP is not bad as some make it out to be.If u choose the right game and right people to play with, the experience can be amazing. Sometimes the sense of accomplishment coming from coordinated teamwork is great. I mean, it is so ironic that the negative comments against MP are expressed on a social platform that is visited everyday by the same people who spend time engaging with others. Yet playing with them online is somehow hybris.

The multiplayer hate here is real! I've got a group of friends i play with so i got no problem with multiplayer. As for Anthem it looks promising so i'm looking forward to it! I don't feel abandoned because of MEA since i didn't buy it nor do i intend to. Mass Effect ended for me with ME3. Yeah, you like MP. Good for you. But don't expect the usual Bioware fan to share your sentiment. I don't like MP at all. I don't like preteens screaming abuse into their mics as I experiencd with GTAV and all my friends aren't into MP either. What many of us expect from Bioware games is story and character interaction. If I were into shooters or so called online experiences I would go looking for companies who are doing these kinds of games for decades. Not for a company tacking on multiplayer on all their recent games to change an additional dime on the microtransaction train, while all the while only presenting simple horde modes and call it a day. This reply comes off as very defensive. No one is attacking you by liking MP and if you think MP games are only played by a bunch of pre-teens screaming abuse only, then you are very wrong. I must be the only one in earth who absolutely loves arrival!!!! the atmosphere ,setting THE MUSIC, the urgency , the solitary feel are so dreary. i always saved it for last in all my playthrouhs, it was some kind of ritual. With that said all dlcs are excellent! Kasumi had some nostalgic feeling dont know why! i liked the other side of mass effect world, the side of5 wealthy scumbags and mercs! I like every single dlc for ME2 (and actually for ME3 too). The Arrival is still bitter as hell and I think Alliance put too, too, too much on the shoulder of Shepard. I used to play more renegade in ME3 because of the pressure Shepard is on after killing off a whole system and after watching the march of Reapers in Canada. Oops, an OT again. But the best part of Arrival is when Hackett visits your ship. There is no person Shepard respects more than Anderson and Hackett and having him standing alive on your ship is a huge deal. In January I finished another playthrough of ME2.This time picked up ALL the DLC because I hadn't played them all before. Wow 60 hours of pure ,raw and insane Infiltrator fun...

First of all, I have never ever pre-ordered a single game in my life. Secondly, I will buy whatever I want to buy when I want it. I adore Mass Effect, it is the series that got me into gaming again and made ny life better in countless ways and I do feel bad Andromeda was a disappointing mess. However, I will not play the blame game.If I like Anthem,I will buy it. As if boycotting Anthem would ever fix anything. The situation is what it is and we cannot change anything. People seem to forget BW is not the same anymore. All the staff and people who worked on earlier games are gone. The current are bound to have different visions. The fact that I expected a great ME game meant squat.Just because I want DLC to at least get some more closure on Andromeda, means squat. I don't follow companies and brands, not even specific genres .I follow games, games I enjoy.I don't care that BW decided to make an online shooter and veer away from rpgs.I don't care if that shooter has the BW branding. If I like the game and enjoy playing it,I will keep doing so.

I am a Destiny player and I 'll try be as unbiased as I can.I'll take it point by point: -Destiny is broadly Sci-fi but it is more of a blend with Fantasy. It has wayyyyy more "space magic" involved. It has a lot of vagueness in the lore,no scientific explanations, tends towards myths, legends and brave warriors of the past (eg The Iron Lords) , Golden Ages etc. The events Also , we don't know if there are any alien races in Anthem. We are on what seems like an alien planet that we've colonized and we only saw the dangerous wildlife. Destiny's Post-Apoc is not like Fallout 4. Boom Nuclear War.We're done. As I said, the fall of humanity aka The Collapse is veeery vague ,happened a looong time ago and even The Darkness as the cause of it is never explained. For the time being we know nothing about Anthem and to whether the story is more similar. Or dissimilar that we think . -Social Hubs are a feature of MMOs.It's very general to be a similarity. -Destiny isn't really open world. There are several locations. Not very big maps where some missions take place or the player can patrol the area .But as I said, they are not very big. They said Anthem will be open world. As in one huge as map.At least that is what I got from this.My mind goes to maps like in Far Cry games. -Classes exist in many games.Very general point of comparison. -Jumping,again...Very general point.Destiny has only jumps which slightly differ from class to class. No flying. Also,Andromeda had the jet packs. -The loot, yeah I admit that thing looked like an engram. But again, loot system is very similar in all these types of games. Also the palette distinctio where green is always for uncommons, blue for rare, purple for ultra rare and yellow for exotics.Division had that too , I even sae the same colors in Horizon Zero Dawn which is a single player game. -Portals? We don't know yet. Vex portals are present in Destiny but the main way to travel from place to play is your space ship. -Drop in co-op .Destiny does that in Strikes. Assuming you are playing alonr,it drops you in Matchmaking but only on the Strike. -interactivity between players ,yes. A general feature of online games. -Dungeons,temples and ruins? Depends on what you mean.If u mean it in the RPG sense, then no. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Let me just drill down on a couple of items to explain why I think it's more than "all games do that" sort of similarities. Given the range of genres we were guessing that Secret IP might be prior to the announcement (olde-timey pirates and steampunk topping my list), there is much less dissimilarity between Anthem SciFi and Destiny SciFi-Fantasy than there is in, say, Fallout (post-apocalypse, another popular guess) and Destiny. In other words, from a broad perspective, they're close enough to call them both SciFi, and clearly not Western (Red Dead) or High Fantasy. And given that Bioware could have picked any genre, why SciFi? Classes do exist in many games, but Anthem seems to have classes that are recognizable as Hunter, Titan and Warlock, the classes of Destiny. I doubt that's a coincidence. I see that you've read /u/tomato-andrew's post, where he describes the rationale for why EA intentionally made the trailer (though, not necessarily the full game) very familiar to Destiny players. That's another reason why the pushback surprises me. It would be much more surprising if there was nothing familiar about Anthem, don't you agree? I see what you're saying and I agree. They said the game is supposed to draw similarities from Destiny maybe I am just a bit more on the defensive on this subject because when people say that Anthem resembles and will be like Destiny, they say it as a negative. As if Destiny is the worst game ever. But I see where you're coming from. Maybe that pushback is a sort of defense

I will give them extra kudos if we can actually fight/attack in the air.Like if we can wrestle flying creatures and/or fly into them withour suits What if you can fight something in the air, but it only happens about twice in the whole game, and it's a scripted QTE sequence? Nope,no kudos for cheap, cop out, scripted QTEs...

Come on OP, Not including a Neither or Both option ...?In the Mass Effect section of this forum,it is clearly obvious what most would choose when presented with either Anthem or MEA DLC.It was never a fair fight:p Removing resources from Andromeda to this Anthem (such a stupid name for a game) is not fair fight either. If both projects were independent from each other from the start.I don't see why both can't exist.Especially if we re talking about comparing production for DLC of an already existing game(the tools, resources and assets are already there) vs. The full production of a new I.P. DLC for MEA would cost a tiny fraction anyway so from a logical and financial stand point,it wouldnt be detrimental to the production of Anthem.Plus, people are begging for DLC for MEA.I know I am.It would be a good move to release it.I don't think BW Montreal working on DLC wpuld affect BW Edmonton in any way.

The graphics aren't even the thing. The design of the planet itself is impressive, as well as the fact that can swim, and the game had underwater locations. I'm not really into MP games, or persistent online games but Anthem doesn't look that bad. I'm sure my best friend will nag and beg me until I play this and Battlefront II (which had an outstanding gameplay trailer), but these type of games don't hold my attention long. I will give them extra kudos if we can actually fight/attack in the air.Like if we can wrestle flying creatures and/or fly into them withour suits

It's a demo like I said. What you just saw is not going to be in the finale game. Never. It kind blows my mind that people honestly believe that's what the game is going to look like. Are these just children who have never lived through an E3->Release Downgrade before? I wish the game will look like the video but...it won't.It isnthe sad sad reality of downgrades. I mean ,to anyone who believes the game will look like this? Just go look at the ME Andromeda E3 2016 video and look at what we actually got.

Thanks for posting. This is what I have been wanting to say but I am not eloquent enough.Pretty much all of this 100%.
Let's not forget Destiny post-TTK expansion wasna vastly better game than vanilla .It was a complete experience.Plus it has an amazing community. I have yet to come across a shitty person on Destiny. Haven't had any negative experiences so far. I think many people who are saying Anthem trying to be like Destiny is a bad thing are : 1)People who played the vanilla gane and got mad with it ,rightfully so ,and never came back to play it after the Taken King expansion. 2)People who never played it at all and are basing their opinions on Destiny's bad launch. 3)People who hate any MP game.

Graphical downgrades and delivering games with less than promised is sadly a part of how the industry works. Earlier I was watching Mass Effect Andromedas E3 2016 video and I remembered how freakin awesome it looked and how thw end product was different.

I off-handedly posted that Anthem is a Destiny killer in /r/AnthemTheGame on reddit and, to somewhat of my surprise, I got some pushback. Some of the pushback is from people sick of hearing that every game in the space is a Destiny killer, like The Division, so that's understandable. But much more curious are the several people saying they didn't think Anthem looked anything like Destiny and see no parallels between the games. I'm not sure if that is just brand loyalty leading to some denial, and would thus be excellent confirmation (EA's game plan to steal marketshare is working), or am I really wrong and Anthem is nothing like Destiny? I mean, seems obvious when I tick off the bullet points: They are the same genre, Science Fiction, down to competing alien races. For a long time, speculation was that the new game would be contemporary post-apocalypse, more like Fallout 4. They both have a hub, where you pick up missions/contracts. They both are open world, though Anthem seems larger than Destiny. They both have character classes, and the classes seem to map pretty closely to Hunter, Titan and Warlock (though the latter may be Mech-Wizard in Anthem). They both have boosted jumps, though Anthem takes it one step further to full flying. They both roll for rare/ultra rare drops, although Anthem does it on the spot. Take that, Cryptarch! They both have portals/gateways to other zones (assuming that's what that final scene was in the Anthem trailer). They both have drop-in co-op. They both have other players visible/interactable in the game world (remains to be seen if this is sharded or single-shard). They both have dungeons/temples/ruins you can skip and come back to later.
