It mostly has to do with the amount of effort required to include them. Body models (along with different textures, clothing, armor) are quite a lot of work, which is why we didn't see any female krogans or salarians until ME3, female turians until ME3's DLC, and no female vorcha, volus, hanar, elcor, or yahg ever (at least not that we know of). I'm sure a lot of people would like to have different body models / sliders available in the CC, but that isn't something that BioWare seems interested in pursuing. Including the other groups you complain about doesn't require much effort - they only need to be written that way. Gay/trans characters require no more effort than straight cis characters. Including overweight people would require a lot of work on body modeling, which they apparently aren't interested in doing. I don't imagine the number of people who would play a fat character is enough to make it even remotely worth the effort into making the body models. If I had to guess, I'd say less than 5%, easily, and that's being generous. Less than the number of people who romanced Jacob, for sure.

Why there isn't different body types in the game would be legit question. Now whole thread is just bait from troll. Not even funny one, why trolls can't be funny on BSN.. :smh: Man, they can't get the animations right for the sole M/F models they have, and you expect them to create two or three more (for each gender?) :lmfao:

No more obesity in the future due to healthier nutrition and technology. So BW hates fat people so much they canonically removed them from the entire universe. Not a single overweight person in all of the Milky Way or Andromeda. Can you imagine what would happen if they did that to any other minority group? Holy cow, I thought we were just gonna need an apology, its starting to look like a protest or a march or something is in order. Lolol. But that would involve physical activity.

I actually think that less choices, the better. Because unless a game is some kind of text-based rpg, its just not financially feasible to account for every little choice and decision made. We could see it in ME3 - since most of the ME2 companions could die in the game, they barely played roles in ME3. Why? Well, because when half (or different portion, of course) of your players doesnt even have particular character(s) alive, why devote many scenes to them? This is also the main reason why we have Andromeda in the first place - since ME3 ended up with 3 wildly different endings (and endings people didnt like), you would have to basically make 3 different games or ignore the choices altogether, if you wanted to do ME4 in Milky Way after Shepard. Hahahahahaha that's funny right there! A really simple way that they could have accounted for the extensive amount of choices in ME1 and ME2 would be to categorize war assets (military, engineering, diplomatic, etc) and then have different outcomes in the epilogue based on which ones were the highest. For example, if you cured the genophage and actually dispersed the cure, you would get some krogan army troops that would count as a military asset. But if you were a total dickhead decided to sabotage the genophage cure, you could get some salarian engineers that would count as an engineering or scientific asset. It's simple and it would have given a lot of people what they wanted -- different endings based on Shepard's choices throughout the trilogy. The ending of Mass Effect 1 was pretty much exactly the same no matter what choices you make -- this is true. You kill Saren and destroy Sovereign and stop the geth from invading and yay everything is puppies and rainbows! But the key choices along the way really allowed the player to develop the kind of person that they wanted Shepard to be. Saving/killing the Rachni, saving the council/letting them die, hell even choosing between Kaidan and Ashley made me want to go back and do a play through where I kept the other one alive. So I guess the question is, does the ME:A main quest storyline feel like a railroad, or does the player have choices along the way that seem to have a profound effect on who Ryder becomes throughout the game?

Can we stop cluttering up this thread with SJW nonsense? Back to the topic of Suvi... So I read something in the spoilers forum about Ryder getting some special food for Suvi (and also for Vetra)? What kind of food does she want?

Mac Walters is to science fiction writing what those people who paint an entire canvas one color and call it "art" are to art. And if you can't see how profound and amazing that is, you obviously just don't "get it."

This topic has gone all kinds of places in the 45 minutes or so it took me to write this up, but I think the Mass Effect team doesn't really understand the market of RPG fans (arguably why ME3 was basically Gears of Effect).
The video game market, believe it or not, extends far beyond the leagues of pre-pubescent boys who swear up a storm on Xbox live while playing the latest rendition of Call of Duty. And, much like most other forms of entertainment, (surprise!) different people like different aspects of games. That 14-year old kid might giggle while his version of Ryder bangs Cora/Peebee, but chances are he’s going to ignore the exploration/resource gathering/colony development aspect of Mass Effect: Andromeda entirely and power through the main quest because he likes shooting digital monsters.
Where am I going with this? For a lot of people, escapism is a huge part of why we play video games – namely RPGs. Most people live pretty boring day-to-day lives. Sure, there are highlights – vacations, projects, concerts/festivals – but most of us operate under relatively stable routines. RPGs are a momentary escape from that. It’s not that the “work/gym/food/sleep” routine sucks, but that playing a character doing exciting things like exploring new planets or killing dragons stimulates our imaginations. In reality, we’re all cogs in a machine. Not everyone gets to grow up to be an astronaut or a pro football player or a Navy SEAL.
In video games, we get to be someone doing something that matters. Commander Shepard, the Gray Warden, the Dragonborn, the Sole Survivor. We get to be someone “special.” And this isn’t about being “snowflakes,” because I’m pretty sure most people who are old enough to be playing M-rated games are old enough to understand the difference between “this is a video game,” and “this is reality.” Any game – the protagonist, the story, all of it – is a lot more enthralling for most people when they have more freedom to make their character exactly who they want them to be. So, (surprise!) LGBT gamers want to be able to make their character LGBT, or at least headcanon that he/she/they are. Putting romance storylines in a game but making the majority of the content hetero-exclusive makes that extremely difficult.
Some of us are fortunate enough to have lives where we can be open about our sexual orientation and don’t have to fear losing friends or family or getting fired. Others aren’t so lucky. For these people, being able to roleplay a gay character in video games might be some of their only reprieve from the largely heteronormative world around us. So I can see why a lot of people who are/were very emotionally invested in the Mass Effect series are taking the news about Jaal as an absolute slap in the face from a company that tries to market itself as “progressive” on LGBT issues.
TL;DR – lots of people – straight and gay alike – play RPGs because we can escape into fantasy worlds that are a lot more exciting than our every-day lives of rush-hour traffic and working 8 to 5 and slaving on the treadmill for an hour and doing it all again the next day. We play so we can be who we want in those worlds. Making the majority of romance options hetero-only adds absolutely nothing to a game (except the smug satisfaction of a few homophobes), but takes this away from a lot of people. Video games aren’t meant to be realistic, ergo, the “LGBT people are like 10% of the population so they should get like 10% of the romance comment, that’s only fair,” holds absolutely no weight.

Well this thread went to hell in a hurry. Even though the trial got me stoked for Andromeda, I'm somewhat considering waiting until it's in the bargain bin (should be a year tops from the sound of things). Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that people found Scott/Jaal romance lines in the files, but it turns out that those files aren't part of the game and Jaal is in fact gender locked for Sara only? That's a shit move by Bioware/EA, and doesn't fit with their earlier "explanation" of "it has to 'make sense.'" If it didn't "make sense," why would those files even be there to begin with?

Nope, starting over. I'll be damned if I play 100 hours of this game with my Ryder looking like she spent that 600 years in a tanning bed instead of a cryo pod.

I picked 80%. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the trial. That said, there are some things that need to be fixed before I'll spend money on it. (1) Echoing allllll the comments about the CC -- I realize in a game with 100+ hours of content, I'm not going to get Battlefield 1 level facial features an animations. That game's campaign is much shorter (maybe 20-30 hours playing on hard, probably half that on easy or normal)? However, I at least expect my characters to not look like Barbie dolls. (2) Not being able to save during priority missions. I'm hesitant to buy the game until this gets fixed, or the workaround is confirmed to work 100% of the time. A huge part of the fun of exploration-based games is trying to see just how far I can push the limits (of the world/surroundings). Will I die if I jump into the water? What about off this cliff? I should be able to save right before doing something that I don't know how it's going to turn out so I don't have to replay the 45 minutes I spent driving around and exploring up until then. Those are really my only major complaints. Some of the dialogue is cheesy and awkward, but I'm pretty sure there have been cheesy and awkward dialogues in every Mass Effect game. So, onto general thoughts/likes/dislikes. Likes (1) I'm getting major Halo 4 vibes from this (and I liked Halo 4, haters gonna hate). So that's a huge plus. Either way, the writing looks to be a step up from ME3 (which isn't hard to do, but still). (2) Combat is pretty good. It will take a few hours to get used to before playing on Insanity, but I am confident it will be an enjoyable experience. (3) I don't know how much I'll use the profile-switching mechanic, but I think it's good to at least give people that option. I'm not sure how much replay value Andromeda will have (i.e. fewer opportunities for Ryder to make crucial decisions, and it seems like his/her personality will be pretty static with the new dialogue system), so it's probably a good thing. (4) Doing donuts in the Nomad. Because why the hell not. Dislikes (1) I really don't like the new dialogue system. I agree with the sentiment that it kind of sucked how much the Renegade/Paragon system pressured you to stick with one side or the other, but I think there are better ways to improve that than get rid of it altogether. I think I had about 7-9 Mass Effect 1 playthroughs, and each time it felt like the "new" Shepard was wildly different than the last. I don't think Andromeda will have that. (2) What I've seen of the overall game, so far -- story, scenery, characters, creatures -- has been enjoyable, but it seems pretty uncreative. I was looking forward to entirely new aliens, species, and worlds -- they could have taken the "blank slate" that this game gave them and absolutely run with it and produced something beyond people's wildest imaginings, instead we have the Kett, which look a lot like the Collectors, the same damn major alien races as in the original trilogy, and a planet that looks like eastern Utah. Don't get me wrong, I thought the scenery on Eos was nothing short of spectacular, but it doesn't feel "alien" to me. (3) I want to be able to switch my squadmates' armor and weapons. This isn't a make-or-break feature, but choosing my companions' equipment was an enjoyable aspect of the first game, and I wish I still had it. I think the argument about "iconic" looks is BS -- all the ME1 companions had pretty "iconic" looks, despite the fact that I could give them whatever armor and guns I wanted. In conclusion: unless all the reviews that ensue over the rest of the week make it seem like a total fiasco ala ME3, I'll probably pick it up this weekend or next.

"Suvi the service top" has quite the ring to it. Imagine her providing some neat dirty talk as she kisses Sara all over before going down on her. My Ryder is smooth and persuasive enough to convince Suvi to venture out to Eos by describing the geology ("You should see it! There looks to be a distinct cliff-forming eolian sandstone unit, similar to the Wingate sandstone back on Earth!") which inevitably leads to Suvi making geological observations between kisses during their makeout (and whatever else, lol) session.
Holy crap, I can't believe that was a thought that actually went through my mind. I might need help.

Played my trial yesterday. Cora's a kill-stealing b*tch. I was literally half a second away from lining up the perfect headshot and she had to charge the bastard. (Please note the sarcasm; I think Cora's actually pretty cool, it was just annoying for about 5 seconds of my 10 hours of gameplay )

I did my Access trial last night. The CC is about what I'd expect from a game in ... 2006? IIRC even Oblivion let me customize my eyebrows too. I also ran into the bug of having an African/black father, even though I double-checked that I used a white preset (this isn't being racist; I'd simply expect my dad to look like me). There's a disparity between the lighting in the CC and in the game. I chose what looked like a "slightly tan" skin-tone in the CC; in the game, Ryder looks like someone who lives on a beach (or just spends too much time in tanning beds). All the blonde options for Scott make him look like a Backstreet Boy. On one hand, it's not a huge deal, I usually don't spend that much time customizing my protagonist, as long as she looks somewhat like me (mostly hair color/eye color/high cheekbones) and I have a hair-style that I like (no bobs, no bobs, no bobs). On the other hand, I'd expect something much better from an AAA game in 2017 that's been 5 years in the making.

Buahahaha... The writers at biowere are pre-teens or something? This is seriously dumb writing. Also, check the lip movements at 0:08... FFS BW... How the mighty has fallen. Also.. It is just me or anybody else has issues playing with a whinny millennial character? Going from Shepard to this... Its painful... Well the point of the story is that we are young and inexperienced, but i knew the moment they talked about that it would not gel with everyone. I don't think that scene is as horrible as people think, but it is indeed a low point on the writing side. I feel like this game having 3 lead writers over the course of development is showing in many scenes. The tone is inconsistent. Personally i never felt that connected to Shepard, and already like Ryder more as a character, but its going to be hugely negative on that front when the game comes out. Ryder is 22. That dialogue sounds more like something you'd hear in a TV show about kids in junior high.

That is sad. She would have made a gorg KISA. It's even sadder that Bioware is leaps and bounds better than every other studio in this regard. Not like we can get our toys and move elsewhere. All we can hope for is that DA team gives us a bi main lady, though honestly, I'm not holding my breath. Nah, I wouldn't say that Bioware is better than "every other studio." They're kinda like the straight person who acts all pro-LGBT because they voted for gay marriage but would never be caught dead at a Pride festival/gay bar/etc because "no homo." I think FO4 handled romances the best, even though they're not really a part of the main storyline. Actually, now that I think about it, that's probably for the better. I get that people really enjoy them, but someone who wants to play the StandoffishLoneWolf protagonist should be able to experience the same level of story depth as everyone else.

Oh, really? Is Suvi generating media coverage about her sexuality? heatst.com/gaming/outrage-after-mass-effect-character-revealed-to-be-not-gay/It's stupid. This game has the most recent balanced romance content for everyone since DAO. It's the ideal scenario. But no, let's get mad over Cora being straight, because that's so bad. These type of people think the world should bend the knee for them, and they're idiots. I would hardly call a few people on Tumblr (seriously does anyone over the age of 18 even go on that site?) "media outrage." Buuuuttt leave it to a conservative fake news site dedicated to finding the most ridiculous SJW bs on the internet and blowing it way out of proportion to say it is.

Does anyone know if Suvi offers to send her geochemistry paper to Scott too? Because I'd love for sharing academic research to be her idea of flirting. I don't even know if I am going to romance Suvi yet (Vetra seems to be more my type, personality-wise), but that's awesome. I wonder if the player can actually read said paper (or excerpts from it)? I'd be curious as to how complex/creative they got from it (or if they just threw a few phase diagrams in there and were like "geochemistry!"

Renegade options tend to be rather sick, especially in later games. Especially the Samara/Morinth decision which is when I gave up on my pure Renegade run. Bioware has said that in Andromeda, Ryder will always be a hero. I wouldn't say anything in the OT was really that sick and the option to be a jerk should be there for RP reasons, even if some people never use them. Shep was always a hero too, they could just be a complete dick about it to people. Paragon/Renegade added replay value to the game (at least ME1 ... ME2 not as much but it was still there). I'll reserve judgement until I actually play it, but it seems like this game has more of a set personality/path for Ryder that you have to follow with not a lot of decision-making (save the rachni/kill the rachni, etc). I'll wait and see, but I loved renegade Shepard -- I made a PansyParagonShep once for variety -- that wasn't nearly as fun.

Even if they do have a sex scene, though, isn't it possible that you might not have to trigger it to still complete the romance? Maybe they have options like ME3 where you could choose to start the sex scene or just stay snuggling on the sofa. I think that would probably be very hard to find in the code, though, so we might have to wait and see. That would be awesome. I always found sex scenes in video games to be a little weird.

Hate the PEOPLE? I see. You can't separate people from their opinions, so you think that criticizing the formation of those opinions is an attack on the people themselves. Ah that's just funny. I don't feel anything towards anyone. What I hate is hyperbole disguised as opinion. You're right though. I should have said "It's not them, it's your opinion".

I sort of fit the description of someone in your original post. I registered a couple weeks ago (was lurking for a couple weeks before that), and I've been mostly critical of ME:A/Bioware. I was registered on the "original" BSN but drifted off because I am "one of those people" who hated ME3 so much that we just kind of forgot about the series after that -- it faded from my memory pretty quickly. I came back because I wanted ME:A to reignite my love for the Mass Effect franchise as a whole. Right now, what I've seen makes me less than optimistic. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way and is on this forum because of it. It's akin to loving the first few albums a band produces, hating one or two consecutive albums because their sound totally changed, and really hoping that they "go back to their roots," only to be disappointed yet again. I guess this makes Bioware is the Metallica of video games?
