Every playthrough I do, I come to a screeching halt during Orzammar and only because of the Deep Roads. And the only thing about the Deep Roads that I really despise is that because of plot threads, it feels extremely cheesy to not bring Shale along and not bring Oghren along. Which means you have to run 2 Warriors and therefore means if you're a Warrior, you're going to be missing a Rogue or a Mage; possibly both.
At no other point in the game did I find the party situation to be so terrible. Ostagar and Tower of Ishal have a lot of locks you'll never be able to pick if you yourself aren't a Rogue, but the devs seemed to understand this and didn't make it so bad. Return to Ostagar is built around two party members (Wynne and Alistair/Secret Companion) but those are two characters from different classes. Even if you're playing one of those two classes, you'll still have a third spot to fill things out.
It's not a matter of difficulty. It's just that such a long slog with a forced party composition is just plain unfun, especially with the awkwardness of being completely without a class on hand.
TL;DR: Having a main quest built around two party members with the same class was a bad idea, and it shows.

Deep Roads full of taint and darkspawns, and more taint and darkspawns, the air isn't clear and healthy, who enjoy that?

Meh the Fade quest was ten times worse. I'd take the deep roads over the fade any day.

Meh. I just go through in Swarm Form and destroy everything in my path. It might be cheesy but I bring two rogues and Shale.
The only time I don't do that is against the spiders, where I Fireball/Inferno all of them until they get close, then I shift into Spider or Bear.

My canon was basically indestructible by the time she got there, and she gave a ton of damage to her foes. And i had a warrior party of good old three and Wynne (for health). The deep roads was about the place my warden found her extremely good armor too. *thinks as the deep roads as a good sparing ground for my Warden*

*raises both her hands* While my reason for not liking Deep Roads is different, I definitely don't like them. And you can call me weird, but I actually like Fade quest (one of my faves in DAO).

Honestly it ties with the Brecilian Forest for the quiet rage it induces in me when I have to go through those roads. However I disagree with the party thing as I roleplay quite a lot. I've had wardens who were snooty towards Oghren and thought he was a waste of space, insisting they'd be better off without him, and a Warden who thought waking a golem was a stoopid idea so never had Shale, so I usually end up with one or the other, but rarely both. Don't forget that you can go to the world map just before (or is it after??) you meet Branka. That's a good moment to go back to camp and go get either one of them, allowing you to only have one (or even neither) in your party for the entirety of the deep roads up until that point.

İ hate them in origins, awakening , da2 and descent, but I assure you that there will be Deep Roads in DA4. And frankly no matter how much I hate them I still would want to have them in future games. Call it masochism if you like but they are just an inseparable part of the franchise

I'm glad someone liked it tho, I found the last 5 minutes interesting but the rest was a slog.

Deep Roads are the most iconic and yet the most boring thing about DA. I didn't even find them boring. The Deep Roads in DAO have a lot of combat. Just being forced into a clumsy party composition because I chose something that made sense from a narrative perspective is...unfortunate, to say the least.

Meh the Fade quest was ten times worse. I'd take the deep roads over the fade any day. Well yeah, but there's a mod to shorten that one I know of no such mod to shorten the DR quest. ------------------------------------ I despise the Deep Roads quest in DAO, and yet in DAI, Descent DLC is one of my favorite parts of the game. I don't mind the DR in DA2, either. Something about them in DAO feels too closed-in (yeah, I know... caves), with too many random pockets to clear out, making it too easy to lose my bearings. Plus, all the spiders with their overwhelm ability

I also find it rather stupid that the vastness of the deep roads you can so easily find the one chest that wasn't destroyed or looted, and just happens to have Orta's relative's names in it. It's too convenient how easily everything is found in an area that's supposed to be terrifyingly huge and unnavigable.
If it didn't all look the same and they had varied the terrain a little it would've helped. The DA2 Deep Roads have a little more personality at least.

I like the Deep Roads, because dwarven stuff. And they are enjoyable if you're in high levels.

I haven't used this mod, but it appears to shorten the trek through the Deep Roads and you get taken to Branka and the broodmother: www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/4560/?I hated the Deep Roads in DAO, but I quite liked the Descent.

Well I have had a couple playthroughs stop at the Deep Roads and I sort of dread them in every game, but I think I'd miss them if they were completely gone too.
The Fade I actually loved my first playthrough. Like it was one of my favorite parts of the game. But now it just seems like a chore.

You can also add me to the small group of people who dislikes the Deep Roads and like the fade. I liked becoming a flaming skeleton who shoots fire balls at people.
I don't like the Deep Roads due how long it is. Its one massive dungeon that's cut up into 4 areas, full of tough enemies, and I usually have to go back to Orzammar just restock on supplies. What I hate the most is that at the end of the Paragon quest, you have two boss battles one right after another. I went through so many poultices fighting that weird magical spinning multi headed guy and his dwarf ghosts when I fought it the first time. Then right after that I had to fight Branka who summoned her clone. :srs:

Yeah Deep Roads is freaky but I don't mind it cuz it cuz it is a part of being a warden. But there is nothing like the feeling when you finally get out of the place straight to crowning the next king.

I would say that it can feel like it drags a bit just because it is long, at least if you are trying to be completionist. I don't mind the Fade as much as some people do though, for what that's worth.
I do hate that the Corrupted Spider Queen cheats with her DOTs (like the player can actually).
