I can crush pistachios with one hand. Every once in a while, when eating roasted pistachios I come across one with a completely intact and closed shell. I put it on the desk, and with the base of my palm press it against the desk until it crushes.

My direct ancestors have built at least 5 castles that still stand (at least remains of) today. I've visited two. Trying to conjure a feeling of "why don't I still own this?" (I was born into a dirt poor family, and remained dirt poor myself well into my 30s.)

I have a family tree going back more than 1100 years. One of my earliest known ancestors was the right hand and best friend of a king. After that there is a lot of nobility, warriors and priests. But everything peters out eventually, particularly for the side branches and into modern times.

I've written several Steam game guides on specific game topics/factions/issues, I think I'm up to seven so far. I tend to do them when I'm either tremendously bored or laid up with some cold or bug. I usually update them when I'm waiting for a package (need to hear that door bell, so I need to do something that's headset free).

Also they're orange... a colour that, for some inexplicable reason, often leaves me feeling strangely angry after seeing it?
So y'know, we've got some serious beef.
(Speaking of which, the only way I can eat carrots is to drown them in a stew so the meat overpowers the taste)

Many fruits and vegetables taste better when heated, but not carrots. Hah, I didn't think people here would share my fetish. I wonder what other weird shit special interests we have in common.

I have English ancestry (mother's side), which dates back about 800 years. I am a direct descendant of the Earl of Sandwich; yes, the guy who invented that miraculous food-item.
I have Viking ancestry (father's side), which also dates back about 800 years. My ancient ancestors on that side were civil engineers of all types. Bridges, ships, roads, airplanes...
Loose estimate on time-frame, but you get the idea. I don't get seasick, carsick, or airsick; and perhaps that explains it?
I have a very tenuous connection to The Royal Throne. I'm probably around the 800th in line for the crown, so a LOT of people would have to suddenly drop dead (including children) for that to really mean anything. Which, for obvious reasons, would be a tragedy. Not to mention that I live in the United States and a few of my later ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War on the side of the Continentals.
Talk about awkward dinner conversations: "Mi'lord would you pass the tea? There's a good chap." "I've got your tea right here." ***throws it into the harbor*** "My word..."
So, in a rather dramatic sense, I'm half-royalty who doesn't want a crown (mother) and half-warrior who only wants peace (father).
I also like sandwiches.

I don't get seasick, carsick, or airsick; and perhaps that explains it? Me neither, and I don't understand people who do. I remember one time I went on a trip for a wale-watching tour, the sea was rough and we were out for about 4 hours on a repurposed fishing vessel with 25 tourists on it. After about an hour in most of the people vanished, curious I went looking for them and found them at the rear of the ship, all puking their guts out. Needless to say the remaining 3 hours of the tour were pure hell for them. Maybe I have something in my genes as well, I like traditional sailing boats, the ocean, the smell of it, especially when its rough and cold. I have natural sea-legs, even though my country is landlocked and I'm neither Viking nor Pacific Islander ancestry. Never understood what airsick is, I don't really like traveling by plane since I don't fully trust the technology and the pilots - but sick? Still, I feel bad in the plane mainly because the seats were designed for Hobbits and I'm a somewhat large man, I occupy 1.5 seats, to the dismay of the passenger right next to me.

Still, I feel bad in the plane mainly because the seats were designed for Hobbits and I'm a somewhat large man, I occupy 1.5 seats, to the dismay of the passenger right next to me.Β Air-sickness is a result of "sudden" altitude changes combined with the mind thinking the body is stationary when it's actually in motion. It also has to do with your inner ear, the bit that determines balance. If air pressure changes, it messes with the balance and can make people dizzy and subsequently nauseous. It's a lot like car-sickness in the latter regard. It's why opening a window is a common solution for people who get carsick; the feeling of air rushing past and seeing the landscape go by tells their brain that they are in motion and it "turns off" the alarm, so to speak. As you already pointed out, having aquatic or aeronautical ancestry isn't a guarantee of being immune to travel sickness. It's more likely you *KNOW* you're in motion despite being in a sitting position. You're absolutely right about plane seats. They're designed for tiny people.

Going by ship is best when there is a fresh breeze and decent waves. It's good exercise for keeping balance. It's also when hot beverages taste best.
