I heard that lots of people disliked Manaan for some reason though I can't see why, because I loved it. The whole arbiter side quest/Jolee companion quest was interesting, and tied in nicely to the whole Sith Vs. Republic.
Alright, so getting through the Sith base was quite a long winded process, but the atmosphere and ambience was brilliant. Just listen to this:

I think as a whole I liked Manaan very fun butttttt for me it kinda made me realize even more how the game needed fast travel and quest markers (literally my 2 complaints about kotor are those and Manaan REALLY needed them I think)... I spent more time wandering around than I did doing quests and even then I barely did any... didnt go and see the guy alone (I turned on solo mode but apparently thats not enough for some reason)... I thought 'oh ill do them later when ive done the story missions'... then I was kicked off Manaan and banned because I may have ruined their economy and messed with the war because I didnt want to kill a firaxan shark... after killing lots of sharks to get there in the first place Not the most well thought plan ive ever had Anyhow, basically for me Manaans missions (the trial and the story) would rate 8/10 for me... would be higher but im scared of deep underwater and also of sharks meaning that I wasnt exactly a fan of the underwater segment Manaan is also very pretty... but its too... well... it takes forever to get anywhere so like the level design for me (excluding missions) would only be a 6/10

The last time I did any missions on manaan, I had a great time. Mostly because I turned the music volume down to about half, and that background music because awesome to listen to.

The problem with Mannan is a few things. The rather crazy neutrality laws, the awful underwater section (slow moving suit, zombies, the garbage puzzle at the end), the Selkath being hard to take seriously and the general lack of explanations of the world itself and the constant trudging from place to place. It's interesting but falls flat. Personally I prefer Voss in SWTOR which improves on many of the elements introduced in Mannan.

I hated Manaan. In general. It doesn't mean it's bad, tough. But I was very happy whenever I finished this planet for several (strange) reasons. The long hallways in main area were probably the biggest problem. Too much walking. The Sith base was allright. Underwater section was claustrophobic but interesting. As much as I didn't like that part, it somehow felt really, really good when you finished it and then.. the star map! And finally back to the surface. And then the prosecution. Yes, that moment alone "fixed" Manaan for me, to make it not absolutely hate it, but keep it in a good memeory. It was quite good as a whole actually, it's just navigating trough those long long hallways and way too long Selkath conversations made it stretch a bit too slow and got somewhat tedious (serious lack of action outside the Sith base), too slow paced. I guess it was just the pacing that was way too slow compared to the rest of the game, Manann "felt" kind of "off" and strange. Still, as a whole, it was good.
And as much as I liked the entirety of all KOTOR soundscapes that Manaan music whenever I hear it I vomit a little bit inside my mouth. It just reminds me how tedious and slow the main area was to navigate.

In replaying KotOR after 13 years, I think both Manaan and Kashyyyk suffer because of the language issue. The fact that an alien language is being spoken all around you isn't so bad, in and of itself. The fact that the same exact voice is repeating the same exact lines, over and over again... it does start to subtly grate, like Reaper indoctrination.
I don't mind the actual structure of Manaan's quests. I really appreciate how each planet offers something unique. That's rare in gaming, even now. I do find that I have to allow the wookiee bawling and selkath slurring to roll off my back, though, as it starts to get old pretty quickly. It's especially rough in scenes where multiple members of the species are participating. They each have the same voice, same pitch, same tone, same damn lines. Ugh. It all runs together. I have an easier time staying immersed in the game if I just acknowledge the annoyance and choose to ignore.

You are completely right about the language. That must have been the reason it was so tiring!

If I could choose my least favorite place it would be Kashyyyk. Manaan was a bit annoying because I have a natural tendency to lose myself in game maps and it became worse in Manaan because of all the walking around. But I liked the star map quest in Manaan. I think the underwater sequence was a nice change, very cool and it's not like you walk forever, it's pretty quick to get to one place to another while wearing the suit.
I have the restoration mod which gives the Pazaak tournament that wasn't in the official release right? That made the area more interesting too.

I always liked Manaan. There were some interesting side quests and it felt a lot different than the other 3 star map planets. The only part I really didn't like was walking in the underwater suit.

I always liked Manaan. There were some interesting side quests and it felt a lot different than the other 3 star map planets. The only part I really didn't like was walking in the underwater suit. I remember really disliking the underwater walking while playing the original Xbox version. It didn't bother me at all on the iOS version I recently played a few times. I wonder if they did something differently, or if it was because of the auto-run feature? Other than the slowly building annoyance of hearing Shyriiwook and Selkath spoken in the same voice, with the same lines, in lengthy arguments and courtroom debates, I enjoy every planet featured in KotOR. I'm still impressed that the game holds up so well after all these years.

I really liked Manaan. I don't think there was a planet in KOTOR that I didn't like, actually. Each seemed to have a different kind of atmosphere and quest and I appreciated the differences between them all. The whole neutrality/diplomacy thing was really interesting and I liked how it played out with the court case in the end.
The underwater bit was a little tiresome - I always remember groaning the first time I saw the spacesuit again in KOTOR II, remembering how slow it was, but they sped up the animation so much that you just scurried along very quickly!

Manaan is actually my favorite planet in the whole KotOR game. I wish it had made it into the sequel. The ambient music was relaxing at times, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. I must have raced on the Swoop track over a dozen times.

It doesn't help that 99.9% of the time you've already read the subtitles (twice and sometimes a third) and they're still talking!

The only problem I had with Manaan is the Selkath speaking sounds like someone walking across a floor of wet sponges.

I disliked Manaan purely because of the how stupid the Sunry Trial was. Old guy killed a young woman who is a proven Sith agent and that's clearly murder, apparently, even when you prove the Sith bribed witnesses and committed other crimes while in the courtroom.
And getting Sunry to walk gets you dark side points even though the Sith are pure evil and it's the only way in the quest you can stick it to them without making the Republic look bad.
