I wouldn't call it a push, I don't know how I would call it. It's like this:
I knew Cass is straight, so I would play a male chara. I also knew I wanted to romance her with a mage. That he turned out to be an elf was a coincidence. (as I said, he was originally supposed to romance Dorian) Dorian is gay, so ofc a male chara. I also wanted to recreate Greed from FMA, because he's my fav and he'd suit Dorian, so I made him a human Reaver. I need a faithful chara to get the Griffon Plate Armor schematic, so I recreated Pike Trickfoot from Critical Role as a Dwarven Templar (idk if you watch CR, but Pike is a gnome cleric, so dwarf + Templar was the closest in DAI) and then I thought who would suit her and thought of Blackwall. BUT, now that I'm playing her, she might romance Sera, because I love their interactions.

Well, if all the NPCs romances were open to all the PCs, would not you still be able to play both Cassandra's and Dorian's romances with the exactly the same male PCs you've described? While someone like me, who'd preferred to play with a female PC would be able to do those two romances with a female Qunari PC I really wanted to play? Or are are you saying that you would have never conceived of playing those male PCs if Cassandra and Dorian were not gated? Meaning you did not really want to play them in the first place that much? b/c that's what happened when I had to reroll a male Qunari. I did not really feel like playing a male, and would have enjoyed a run with a female more, but the gate on Dorian made me rerolling... and I did not like it. In fact, the Qunari male had access to two romances I've liked, while the female one had access to none. Which is way odd. Either too many, or none. And seeing they can't really predict the vagaries of tastes like that, that's precisely why gates are not great imo.

Or are are you saying that you would have never conceived of playing those male PCs if Cassandra and Dorian were not gated? Meaning you did not really want to play them in the first place that much?I don't want them to be open to all PCs, it worked in DA2, but DAI is not DA2. Being gay is a big part of who Dorian is, I would NEVER want him to be bi, just so I could romance with a female character. That may not be the case with Cass, but still, she is NOT bi! Also to your last point: Really? REALLY? I love them because they are who they are! If they were both bi just so any gender could romance them they would not be the same anymore! The problem would not be that I wouldn't want to romance them, the problem would be, like in DA2, that I would not know with who I would want to romance them, because I could just put in "New Chara X" for the upteenth time and not care about what the LI likes, cause it doesn't matter to them. <-- that said, I loved Merrill's romance in DA2, still my Hawke was just purple choice, purple choice, heart option, purple choice, I wouldn't call that a personality. I have played as a female Qunari and loved her, I was a bit sad she couldn't romance Cullen, or Cass, but they are not bi so it makes sense they tell me "Sorry, I'm not interested, but we can be friends"! <-- my Qunari ended up very happy with Josie. I'm playing SWTOR and made a female human Sith Inquisitor, then I looked up her romance options and saw a cute female Zabrak, who's sadly only into male PCs. Now, I could just remake my chara so I could romance her, but I don't want to. I also do not want that that Zabrak gets changed so any gender could romance her. I'll just appreciate her to be my charas friend and live with it, because I do not need her to fall in love with my chara just so I'm happy.

And seeing they can't really predict the vagaries of tastes like that, that's precisely why gates are not great imo. That's also a difference between us, as I wouldn't reroll a chara just to romance someone. If I can't romance the chara I had planned to, well, then I don't and deal with it. My Qunari was meant to romance Bull, but he was rude to her in the very first conversation and I did not like that. At all. First I even considered not romancing anyone in the PT because of that, but then my Qunari fell for Josie's personality. Because my charas have a say in who they want to romance too, it's not just me saying "I want to see X's sex scene.". <-- I chose the "Let's take it slow" option for Dorian, because his romance advanced so fast and I wanted to have the dance in the Winter Palace first, also it made sense for my chara, because he isn't into one night stands when he's serious about a relationship.

Do you mean Togruta? For Sith Inquisitor? Ashara? My male Sith Inquisitor was my main, and that lovestory was basically my favorite in SWTOR, it is so poignant and awesome. For comparison, I've never completed romance on the female Sith, because Andronikus is not my cup of tea. But I don't like the F!Inqisitor's voice, so she was a PvP character on another server, I don't think I've finished the storyline on her. SWTOR in later chapters opened up the romantic content to all PCs, and I've liked that for obvious reasons.
SWTOR though is just so insanely good & have so many ways to create and play each character, between the MP content and races, that each run is different enough w/o having to romance someone at all. But, Ashara and Ruvvoy & their love story is something special for me.
Anyways, if you have the time, Ashara's is a beautiful romance!

I mixed up my Smuggler and my Inquisitor (I meant Akaavi Spar the Zabrak companion for the Smuggler) but yes, I would've also loved to romance Ashara, but like Akaavi she is meant for a male character and both my Smuggler (Twi'lek) and Sith Inquisitor (Human) are female. Luckily my Jedi Counselor (Human) and Bounty Hunter (Zabrak) are male, so they can romance Nadia and Mako, respectively. I only play PvE as I don't want to fight other players. Idk shooting other real players feels like I'm taking their fun away. At least to me. Maybe I'll make a male Sith Inquisitor one day, but first I want to finish the class stories with the charas I already made. (I'm playing SWTOR for less than a month)

Sure, you get the occasional player whining that such and such class/race/objective is tilted unfavorably, but for the most part they want the challenge. In my experience anyway...

I prefer all-bi personally because the ones I want are ALWAYS gated to the other sex. After having this happen to: Morrigan, Alistair, Cullen, Blackwall, Solas, and Cassandra (I won't even get into Mass Effect) I've just about had it. Maybe if s/s options were as numerous as opposite sex options, and s/s options were as good and plot important as opposite sex ones, then maybe. Maybe. But I still don't see the point of limiting people's choices.
