Playing City Sims; Pharaoh and Cleopatra, I always see the little papyrus makers walking around or working on papyrus but never the actual process. Now I do.

I got told by a friend that Netflix is putting out a new Masters of the Universe series - child of the 80s here - so after looking it up on Youtube (and thinking it looks not bad) - this appeared in my rec list.
And I've watched it more times than is probably healthy for a man in his early-mid 40s.

I mean, I know it's unfair to compare Blizzare to Bioware, but even with their mmo at a very, notoriously crappy state right now (from what I heard about Shadowlands), they seem to be still doing quite well in terms of marketing and hype, unlike SWtOR who merely released those two high quality trailers for their Knights of the XX expansions.
Just look at that cinematic. It's gorgeous. Imagine that, but applied to TOR characters like Malgus and Satele Shan. Remember the original trailers that came out when the game was released?
This stuff easily puts the films to shame. And yet, look where we are now with the mmo. Such a shame. Such a waste, EA.
On a similar note, I was watching Blizzard's other game trailer recently for Diablo IV. Another fantastic achievement with breathtaking graphics. And that music, god, so epic. I even named my Sith Inquisitor "Lilith" because of it:
Like, say what you will about Blizzard, but they know how to make trailers.

Air safety today is written with the blood of those who're gone. In this case, the emergency checklist was rewritten to; don oxygen mask first before trouble shooting instead of trouble shoot first before donning oxygen mask. Naturally, everyone who sees this today asks; who's the moron / idiot who came up with the original checklist? Who knows.

Description of the incident by video creator; Note the tilt alarm shrieking on every gentle turn, and welcome to a reality of these real-life monster trucks: they roll. Physics is very unfriendly to high center-of-gravity vehicles full of sloshing water, particularly when combined with an adrenaline-fueled driver experiencing the tunnel vision that can set in when a call comes through. (A common theme in NTSB interviews: firefighters don't remember hearing the tilt alarm.) Did I mention that crash trucks often have a curb weight in excess of 100,000 pounds? Something to consider on those occasions where it seems as though fire rescue crews are taking forever to respond: They are useless if they don’t arrive.
Continuing....
On October 28, 2016, at 2:32 p.m. CDT, a Boeing 767-300 (registration N345AN), scheduled as American Airlines flight 383 bound for Miami, Florida experienced an uncontained right engine failure and subsequent fire during its takeoff ground roll on runway 28R at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. The flight crew aborted the takeoff and stopped the aircraft on the runway and an emergency evacuation was conducted. Of the 161 passengers and 9 crew members onboard, one passenger received serious injuries during the evacuation and another 19 experienced minor injuries. The airplane was substantially damaged by the fire.
Here is some more information you likely have not heard elsewhere:
-It took firefighters ten hours to completely stop the fuel leak. To capture leaking fuel, firefighters first used eight containment pools, and eventually placed a fuel bowser beneath the wing.
-Airport firefighters saw this fire from the station and started responding immediately, prior to notification from the tower
-One of the first units on scene included a firefighter who had been with Chicago Fire Department for 36 years. He had never before responded to an aircraft fire and was scheduled to retire the following day. At 11:00 in this video you can hear him saying "I finally got my fire! Luckily no one was hurt."
-Not all equipment was functional during the incident. Cameras which had recently been tested malfunctioned, and one of the high-reach extendible turrets on a crash truck was out of service.
-One of the ejected turbine disc fragments pierced through the plane's wing and continued thousands of feet through the air, eventually falling through the roof of a UPS shipping facility, bouncing off the floor, breaking it (the floor, that is), and finally landing on a loading rack - over 3,000 feet away. Check out the photo album at tiny.cc/AA383Pics (case sensitive).
-Firefighters used over 24,000 gallons of finished foam (720 gallons of 3% AFFF concentrate) on this fire.
-The estimated cost to repair runway damage due to heat and gouges from flying turbine shrapnel was close to $1,000,000. It was necessary to cut a section of runway out of the ground.
(Noise reduction was liberally applied to the audio track, including frequency-specific notch filters for the ear-piercing high-pitch tones. The way it sounded prior... could be used for riot control.)
1/3/18:
Many additional documents from the NTSB investigation have been added to Google Drive - flight crew checklists, training manual excerpts, interview transcripts, metallurgy reports on the failed disc, and more. To join the 15,000+ people who have taken advantage of that (free) information resource, visit tiny.cc/AA383.

I think I saw a better quality video of this disaster a few years back, so there are more recordings of this. Anyway, the plane is on a doomed track long before it becomes obvious. If you're in a 60 deg banking turn, you'd better be flying fast, because the stalling speed is going to be 42% higher than the nominal stall speed. And if you have long wings, that turn better be wide (which it can be at 60 deg if the speed is high), because the inside (turn) wing will travel slower than the outside, meaning it will get less lift than the outside, resulting in that the banking angle will increase. Glider pilots with long wings learn to apply opposite aileron early in steep turns. If you're close to stalling speed, the inside wing will also stall first, because it has less airspeed, and opposite aileron will stall the wing earlier. Opposite rudder is correct, particularly for those swept wings, but he needs a lot of altitude to trade for speed to save the situation. He doesn't have that. The pilot went down a cul de sac that there was never any return from. I didn't like the first turn he made around the tower and was going; wtf are you doing? Then I braced instinctively. Even though the titles would state it's a disaster, I would hope as I watched, somehow the pilots would get the plane out of trouble at the critical moment. Looking at the simulation, through those windows as the ground rush up...I don't want to think about what they were thinking / feeling in those last moments. Now I cringe whenever I hear: Terrain! Pull up!! or the TCAS alert; Descent!! or Climb!! and the pilots wavering between heeding the TCAS call and ATC instructions. Anyway, there's another similar incident years later. A C-17 practising for an airshow made fast turns along its intended route and banked too deep. Both pilots did not have laudable reps with their colleagues. They were known for taking risks and ignoring rules. That C-17 was probably exactly the same. Too slow and tight turn, inner wing gets less lift, banks more, then stalls as the pilot tries to put even more load on it to recover. Yet another identical accident featured a British Nimrod. That pilot was also way below the stipulated minimum speed. Why? It's as if there are many pilots around who do not understand basic aerodynamics. Speaking of... There was this accident where a civilian aircraft messed up it's approach and landing completely, crashed and killed everybody on board. During the investigation it was discovered that both pilots had forged and faked their credentials. Neither had proper education and training. It had worked fine for a while, being passengers to the autopilot, and working together with a proper real pilot. The day they were both put together in the same cockpit though...

It had worked fine for a while, being passengers to the autopilot, and working together with a proper real pilot. The day they were both put together in the same cockpit though... Oh yes, TheFLightChannel also covered that incident. I was incredulous when I learned the reason behind the crash. That was more than 50 years ago though. No way anyone is going to waltz in like they did today. However, there's one loophole that's not covered; when the pilot was psychologically unbalanced. The shrinks never reported it because of the patient/doctor rules, he kept quiet, the company never knew and hundreds of lives were lost when he decided one day he was going to go and he murdered all those people as well. I've yet to look it up to see how this problem is addressed.
