Hi! So after many years I decided I want to play this game again. I have so many good memories when it came out. I was hoping someone could help me with setting up tactics for my team? I know you can create amazing tactics and just enjoy watching your team beat everyone I'm just bad at it. I play as mage. I'm few lvls in, and I have Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana.

It depends a little if you're on PC. If you are, first step is to get the Advance Tactics mod, since it opens a lot of other options.

I guess I can try that. I know on old Bioware forums there was really awesome topic regarding team tactics. I wish I'd saved it.

You could try the Fextralife forum-she should have brought over all the old bioware threads from the old forum, if you remember the name and can do a search for it. If not, you could ask her for help finding that thread.
There's also some basic tactics in the DAO strategy guide.

Think everyone has their own spin on tactics, but also since I have played the game with a few bug fixes and Advanced Tactics, the settings I use might not completely translate to the base game. I don't know that early game the team is going to ever be able to just stomp the enemy with no input though. Hard to afford for them to drink potions like fiends. Late game of course a lot of the team members are powerful and geared well enough that they could get through it with mostly just attack commands. Other than that, since tactics slots are finite, you want to prioritize things that the AI handles well, and leave off things that are better left to micro. For instance on the mages I mostly don't like to have AOE friendly fire capable abilities on tactics because they don't care so much if they nuke friendlies. On the other hand, healing and some of the other buffs automate pretty well, so those get slots. A lot of people like to put potions in the top tactics slots (like health <50 -> use health poultice least powerful) and others prefer to do them completely manually. Early game I prefer them manually controlled to save a slot and help ensure no party member is chugging my whole stock. Anyway it really depends on what builds and what you are trying to accomplish with the characters. Writing a lot and saying a little apparently. Unfortunately, I don't remember which all topics I liked on the subject. This one came up with a simple search. Tactics for Wynne and Leliana

There is a mod on Nexus, Even More Advanced Tactics, which gives you a lot more flexibility and options for setting tactics. EMATIt does have a bit of a learning curve, but there is also a good manual and a forum for people to discuss their tactics builds. This is one of my must have mods.

I use the advanced tactics mod and play on nightmare. I won't go into details as people linked resources here and I want to keep things short and sweet. As an example, here is what I do with Morrigan: 1. Always have Spell Might on 2. Turn on Death Syphon while in combat, turn off in exploration 3. Cast Mana Clash on magical enemies 4. For Boss and higher enemies, cast Death hex. 5. For Clustered groups of enemies (you pick how many) cast sleep 6. If enemy status = sleeping, cast horror. 7. The default enemy health less than 50% cast Winter's Grasp
There are lines for using Drain life when her health gets below a certain amount or using a lyrium when mana drops low. But anything else I do with Morrigan is micromanaged during the fight. This works real well for me since sleep is an AoE spell that will not affect allies, even on Nightmare. Horror on sleeping enemies creates an entropic combo that deals quite a bit of damage. Another advantage of advanced tactics mod is that the rogues will automatically move around enemies to score backstabs.

This pt I have Morrigan's AI (using EMAT) actually incorporating her shapeshifting. When to become and when to undo. Even though I can't (or haven't figured out how) use her swarm/bear/spider abilities tactically instead of manually controlling them, it's still fun.

You can set basic tactics to have Morrigan shapeshift-I use Morrigan attacked by a melee attack and it works to let her shapeshift into whatever form-but I have to manually shift her back into mage form.
Morrigan does start with a much lower magic score than the pc, but I use duplicate ability tome to compensate for her reduced magic score somewhat.

mike3207 , With EMAT you can set conditions for her to unshapeshift automatically. I never had any luck doing that with vanilla. I don't have them handy but I can add them to this post later. Sorry it took so long, but here's what I set up for Morrigan with Even More Advanced Tactics (I warn you, it is a long image, cobbled together a few screenshots to get all 50 tactics.

If you are still interested, I am about to start DAO again (after a long time too). I mostly control my own character, except some special occasions. That is why I rely mostly on ok tactics for companions. Once I familiarize myself with the game again, I'll maybe post some helpful tactics.

I like to do this as well, partly because I like the character classes that tend towards micro (2H warrior for instance).

One basic tactic I always use high up-Health less than 50%, use healing potion. I find if you lower it to 25% too often you're suffering from status effect like stunned.

My favorite is having the rogue stealth, then go and backstab magic users, then stun them, then finish them off. The others are less problematic usually.
