Hell, it fell in less than an episode. One minute we have a zombie neighbor trying to eat somebody's brains directly to the army enforcing Marshall law, iirc.

It was really frustrating, too, because I thought the stuff they did show was really compelling. The riot scenes were tense as hell, and that one moment after, where they're driving past the hospital surrounded by cops shooting at the old guy who wouldn't go down...it was seriously chilling. And then it was just...over. Such a missed opportunity.

Fear the Walking Dead ended up abandoning it's great premise faster than Star Trek: Voyager did.
For a show that was meant to be about the start of the outbreak and the collapse of society, who decided that they'd immediately timeskip to 9 days after the army showed up, at which point the surrounding suburbs outside their safezone were completely deserted of any living thing.
They should have had the characters split up into different locations to give us different perspectives of things falling apart. Some of them would have made it to the safezone, some would have been stuck in downtown LA, while others would have ended up at the stadium refugee centre... with them all eventually joining in the season finale after all those locations are overrun.
Also, they probably could have made at least some of the characters likeable.
There's not many characters I find myself actively rooting for and Madison in particular is a chore to sit through. It's like the writers plucked Andrea from the original show and used her as the basis of their lead protagonist, forgetting all the reasons we all utterly despised that character.

Fear The Walking Dead S1 was the biggest joke on TV in a long time. And I actually watched the whole thing just to see if it would improve. Most boring show I've ever seen. Thank god it was short! I mean, what did I expect with that ridiculous name? Anything even remotely connected to TWD had to suck. And it did, big time.
Still can't believe they made a second season... this franchise is the most disgusting cash grab in TV history to me. I really should stop watching. ;P

Well, the thing that really gets me is the fact that none of them owns a gun; yet one person tells them where to shoot them, and all of sudden they're all Rick. That's the thing that really kills me. I just sat there watching the show hoping some character would die, if not about half of the people.

Well, the thing that really gets me is the fact that none of them owns a gun; yet one person tells them where to shoot them, and all of sudden they're all Rick. That's the thing that really kills me. I just sat there watching the show hoping some character would die, if not about half of the people. The show is a mess because of how inconsistent it has been. The writers want the characters to make stupid mistakes because it's the early days of the apocalypse and they're still learning the ropes, yet at other times they seem to act way more experienced and proficient at killing Walkers than Rick's group were back in the early seasons.
The characters in Fear have been in more danger than Rick's group underwent in their respective first two seasons, so it's perhaps excusable why the Fear group might have adapted more quickly and moved faster up the learning curve. But the fact that some of the characters still insist on making obvious mistakes ruins that excuse, because they seem not to have learned a thing.
Fear should get rid of everyone save for Nick, Alicia and Strand, who are by far the most interesting and competent characters on the show. Travis and Madison probably should go next season, since they are the millstones around the neck of the series, Travis being a total wet blanket and Madison consistently making things worse.
I still don't understand why they didn't keep Tobias, the genre-savvy kid from the first two episodes in the show? He was by far one of the best characters in the pilot and you expected him to return at some point in S1, but he never did? Same with the two plane crash survivors from the webisodes, they were touted as joining the cast, only to be set adrift by Strand in a dinghy after two episodes.
With two appearances and ten minutes of screentime, those characters managed to be more likeable and memorable than most of the main cast were in two seasons.
Not to say that TWD is spotless either, the writers have been getting increasingly lazy in the last few seasons when it comes to certain character's motivations or plotlines. They've recycled the whole "refuse to kill" arc at least three times in the last 2 seasons, with Tyreese, Morgan and Carol... and it was dull the first time. That being said, I did like how they wrote Rick's group as essentially villain protagonists in S6. They slowly took control over Alexandria, strong-armed Hilltop into a protection racket (with terms no different than the ones Negan gave them) and decided to declare war on another group, despite having no idea who they were going up against. Made it rather satisfying to see their hubris rewarded when they realised how badly they'd underestimated Negan.

Made it rather satisfying to see their hubris rewarded when they realised how badly they'd underestimated Negan. It has now gotten to the point where I don't even care about the characters enough to remember their names, on FTWD. And in S6, I didn't really see Rick's group taking up the mantle of Negan. I saw it as them working it off in trade. Negan just comes in and beats someone to death and then says, "Gimme half of your shit or else other people are gonna die." Rick's group at least offered to do something about Negan.

I'm a huge TWD fan - love the comics and the tv show. And I'm not easily shocked by violence - as long as the story is good, I will keep watching (two otehr fandoms, I like are Hannibal and Saw - not because of the violence but despite it).
I'm still amazed, how well Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Negan - I love him for roles like the Comedian or Papa Winchester, but Negan is maybe one of his best role so far.

I actually don't think so. I loved him as the Comedian, but as Negan (at least from what I've seen) he seems like a pedantic sadist. I'm going to keep watching the show as well (the only thing I've done so far), but whew. Good god, that shit was brutal last week.

I'm going to keep watching the show as well (the only thing I've done so far), but whew. Good god, that shit was brutal last week. As I've been telling folks on The Walking Dead forum, that premiere was literally the low point of the comic as far as sheer brutality and sadism. And the show seemed to actually ramp it up from the comic, but I guess it was proportional since in the comic, Rick's group had only killed Negan's biker gang whereas on the show, they'd killed the biker gang, the entire sleeping compound, and then burned another group alive in one of their remote safehouses. That was a lot of Negan's men, so he was pretty righteously angry. I'm a diehard Negan fan and even I was watching the premiere with some... concern. But I feel like things go up from here. That was pretty much the most brutal thing Negan did to Team Family in the comics, so unless the show goes really off the rails (which can happen, they do that from time to time), I don't anticipate any more hour-long Negan's Torture Circus acts, so hopefully we start seeing some of the other sides of Negan. The ones that have the potential to make you start liking him, possibly even against your will. LOL

Bleh, I just want Rick to kill him, and for it to be over with. Regardless of how well the actor playing is doing. I know that's not what happens in the comics (okay, yes, I cheated, I went online and looked), but still.

I think Negan is my new favourite character Negan's opening line in the episode made me laugh on a second viewing, as a brick joke told via out-of-sequence flashbacks. "Why? Was the joke that bad?"(30 seconds before, while beating |Redacted| to death) "Lucille is thirsty, she's a vampire bat!"
