Not sure I like the "bonds". But we'll see. The game already keeps track of soldiers bonding under the hood. You can see soldiers with close bonds interacting on the Avenger, visiting each other in the infirmary, chatting in the barracks, etc. I play with a mod that gives a squad small bonuses when you stock it with soldiers who have formed close ties. With the down side of an increased chance of panic and becoming shaken if anyone on the squad is KO-ed, killed, or captured. Yeah I have a similar mod called Squad Cohesion that does that too. After a while my A-Team starts racking up some serious buffs from doing so many missions together. With the new fatigue mechanic coming in War of the Chosen though I'll have to reconsider my approach to building my squads.

It looks good, but for some reason haven't even gotten around to finishing XCOM 2, despite loving Enemy Unknown and Enemy Within so much. Guess it is the greater sense of urgency, just don't like to feel it in my games anymore when the goal is to just relax.

Same sentiment here, but I installed LW2 mod and some campaign modifiers and I can pretty much go easy on the campaign. Currently I'm trying to liberate Earth and I barely move any further than like 2 points on the Avatar project.

The first half of the game feels very urgent, especially with eh Avatar Program progressing. But after a while, you get over the hump, you get better gear, raid some facilities, and things settle down.

It appears there are quite a few new mechanics in the expansion. Is there a written summary somewhere? Videos take too long to watch...
Does the new skill point mechanic apply to all soldiers or only those from the new factions?

It appears there are quite a few new mechanics in the expansion. Is there a written summary somewhere? Videos take too long to watch... Does the new skill point mechanic apply to all soldiers or only those from the new factions? I'm not sure that there is a full written summary detailing all the various additions, but I found this article to broadly cover the majority of what is being added. www.ign.com/articles/2017/07/12/how-xcom-2-war-of-the-chosen-ramps-up-threats-and-options?abthid=5965ed5614d152372e000006As for the new skill point mechanic, it applies to all current and upcoming soldiers. Instead of only getting a binary (or with LW 2 trinary) choice your squadmates now use a collective pool of 'Ability Points'. This new resource is earned for completing missions as well as playing well; things such as attacking an enemy from elevation, or using flanking shots on an Advent squad will net you bonus AP points on top of the standard amount. With these points you can now, if you were so inclined, purchase all of the perks and abilities from all the rank tiers; of course that will be putting all of your metaphorical eggs in one basket and it will only take one bad bout with the RNG gods to take that away from you. Solider rank ups are still in the game, though they are more about the passive stat boosts and which array of skills you now have access to rather than being tied to a specific selection of powers.

Fo those of you who are interested in trying out the new 'PhotoBooth' feature from War of the Chosen expansion, and setting up your own personalized poster prior to the DLC dropping, well you're in luck! steamcommunity.com/games/268500/announcements/detail/1440443348072123926Personally, I'm going to skip this one, but for those who would like to try it out, its free on Steam.

Ha! I was watching Bahroo's playing on Twitch yesterday, he made one picture witht that "Uncle Sam" propaganda vibe on it, he changed the title to "I want YOU to miss 99% shots" . I stopped playing XCOM 2 a while back, never finished the game. WotC is looking pretty nice, although I don't get why there's an early access of sorts 2+ weeks before release? Usually an early access is 5 to 7 days tops.

New article talking about the new Challenge Mode being added with the expansion. steamcommunity.com/games/268500/announcements/detail/1440444057606126867This feature is more of an added bonus for me, as I personally won't be making extensive use out of it, but it does sound interesting nonetheless. If for no other reason, I am happy for it's inclusion for the use of aliens as part of your squad, as well as this little tidbit: "One of the things the team learned along the way, though, was they needed to give aliens the ability to perform objectives. They don’t pull up a hack pad on objects, they just perform a similar action. The aliens needed to be able to perform basic functions like Evac – things they weren’t programmed for in the main game."That offers a ton of possibilities for several of the 'Playable Alien' mods I have running from time to time on my campaigns.

Looks like IGN already has a review out for War of the Chosen. www.ign.com/articles/2017/08/24/xcom-2-war-of-the-chosen-reviewNo worry of spoilers in case anyone was wondering, and I would say that everything the reviewer touched on is about on par with what I expected. Really, the biggest knock against the expansion is the story beats not living up to AAA RPG games from what I could see, which is fine. XCOM is not Mass Effect or Dragon Age, and I am thankful for that. P.S. I am still betting that we are going to see an article on or immediately prior to release day detailing how the Long War 2 mod will have been updated for the expansion.

I've played about 4 hours of it now and enjoying it a lot. I wont get into story spoilers(I haven't even really come across much of the new story new) but I'll go into a few mechanics.
The new fatigue system is actually ensuring that I use a wider variety of soldiers rather than simply have the one god team of death. Apparently if you tire a soldier out too much you can end up giving them a negative trait due to stress. I've no idea right now if these can be removed or not by some means.
The lost provide an interesting change to gameplay. When you're against only them cover is rather pointless since they don't use it and they're melee anyway. Most of the missions against them have been my squad running in a tight group gunning down hordes of enemies.
Though I have to note one thing: Sharpshooters are hilariously broken against them due to the simple fact that they don't ever need to reload their pistol, which is the main bottleneck for soldiers gunning down every lost in sight with the chain kill mechanic they added to them. I imagine they thought pistols would be too weak to guarantee a kill on every shot and they are(even against the weakest lost units), but there is a buff you can get from another new mechanic, faction orders, that makes any hit against the lost an instant kill regardless of damage dealt.
So if I'm ever close to being overrun my Sharpshooter simply walks into the middle of the pack and goes McCree on them. I am really looking forward to getting the ability that fires a pistol shot against every visible target.
They are good fun when you've got both lost and Advent though, because the stupidly reckless tactics don't work anymore on account of Advent simply shooting you as they do. Fighting Advent, the lost, and a Chosen that's immune to overwatch(one of the random traits mine has) all while trying to capture multiple objectives is a special kind of hell.
They open up the new faction soldiers for you very early on as well, and they're incredibly powerful. With the Reaper's sniper unit I can rather easily stealth my way through a lot of missions, at least until doing the objective forcefully knocks you out of concealment. She's capable of killing without dropping concealment which means you can get annoying patrols out of your way. It's a shame they don't promote stealth gameplay a bit more now that I have this new unit.
I imagine I'll be putting a lot more hours into XCOM.

Well its definitely sized for an expansion, 30 gigs worth. I only got to fiddle around in the menus and do the first tutorial again; just to see if there is anything new; before I had to head into work, but I am really liking what I'm seeing.
The only thing that gives me slight concern is that it crashed to desktop as I was loading into the second tutorial mission, hopefully it's only a minor glitch and not a frequent occurrence.
P.S. I'm with Laughing Man on this; really interested to see what the Long War 2 modders do with War of the Chosen.

It's the main XCOM 2 with the chosen stuff thrown in, so the pacing is close to that of the base game so far. There are however covert operations you can send soldiers on, some of which can reduce progress on the Avatar project as a reward which buys you some more time. I also know that there is supposed to be a sort of "second wave" options around this time again but I didn't have them unlocked yet(I'm assuming I need to beat the game like you did for the original second wave). One of the options is to increase the individual mission timers, if you didn't like being rushed by the base game.

I saw those, but you don't have to unlock them. Just when you're starting a new game you have "Advanced Options" that let you enable the various modifiers.
