If people rock a particular Javelin, that means they like it and are more proficient at it. 4 people in Javelins they are capable in seems preferable to forcing people into Javelins they don't like. (or placing artificial constraints on the matchmaking process) I don't see "forcing" being an issue. Choose the Javelin you desire, queue matchmaking (however that is going to work, and whatever that entails). There could also be fallback options, if the class type you chose is taken/reserved/etc. a backup of your choice is chosen (dps, support, healer...) The artificial constraints, that could be an issue and as a person that has experienced queue times of each trinity archetypes in WoW for example, DPS by far has the longest wait time. IF, the matchmaking forces searching to ONLY find the trinity type team setup, then yes, queue times could be inflated. However, if there are switches/options that player has control over that can change search type from trinity to all or whatever. I might have stated in an earlier post that this 'trinity' system should be a loose implementation, meaning a group of all healers, dps, tanks, etc. could still accomplish the objective(s). Obviously, the synergy would be much greater if a 'trinity' team was attempting.

That makes no sense to me, if you are making it so loose that any combination can complete the fight regardless if in trinity formation or not why have the trinity design? It seems at that point it just becomes lip service to people online to say they have the trinity design with no real consequence or design around having that implementation.

While I hope the differences are not purely cosmetic if you mandate a team comprised of the different units it's going to be problem when matchmaking randoms. If the recent poll on preferred Javelin is at all representative you'll have 70% of the playerbase rockin' Interceptors and Storm units. People will get frustrated or bored if they have to sit and wait in lobbies for any length of time...and the population will rapidly dwindle. Hopefully they'll do a good job beta testing to strike the right balance/compromise.

Meh. If BioWare is able to pull off the matchmaking feat that Blizzard has pulled off in WoW, all that it'll mean is that you'll have to wait for a tank.
That's a rather large if, BTW.

For some people that wait is a big deal. If you are just logging in for a short time do you really want to spend half of it waiting for a tank or would you find another game where you don't have to spend time waiting?

Putting another nail in the coffin of the Holy Trinity from the Twitter thread:
Brenon Holmes Right now there's not really the concept of a "traditional" tank like in an MMO. The Colossus can take a lot more punishment and has some defensive moves in its kit - but isn't necessarily relegated to the role of "damage soaker". 😊
We want the suits to be somewhat flexible to accommodate people's playstyles, that means shying away (a bit) from some of the more rigid roles traditionally found in MMOs.
Ultimately if you want to kit out your Colossus for damage you should be able to push your build in that direction. If someone wants to be more defensive, they should be able to do that as well. That said, the Colossus will usually have more health and resistances than other chassis'.
Hopefully that helps? 😊
