Space magic! Wait, whaa...? Mass Effect is full of Space Magic! If Anthem wanted to contrast with ME, it'd hard science-fiction.

I really hope there isn't any space magic in this game, it's entirely overdone lately.
Explain it away with tech if needed, but no magic please.

I'm not a fan Star Wars, and what we saw looked far more grounded yet still convincing. There's no need for space magic here.

My guess: the humans in Anthem were part (or descendents) of a colony ship set out for Alpha Centauri Maybe there was a second ship going to Andromeda carrying humans, but they ran out of gas and ended up in Alpha Centauri?

All the tech looks very grounded though, that one I agree. Save for when they called in the other two people. The fourth suit, instead of dropping in does this teleport move surrounded by weird energy stuff. It then proceeds to us that weird energy to jet and float around while the rest of the suits either walk or use obvious thrusters. It also had a anime scarf wrapped around its neck, because clearly a suit of power armor benefits from scraps of cloth floating and fluttering all over the place. Obvious space wizard from the moon is obvious, being the point.

Obvious space wizard from the moon is obvious, being the point. I'm hoping they explain that away as antigravity generators or something instead of magic. Maybe it only has enough power to work on the lightest weight javelin types but provides more control or something. Instead of "magic energy blasts" use wrist mounted plasma or laser guns. Instead of "magic fireballs" use flamethrowers. There are ways to create that magic feel without throwing supernatural nonsense where it clearly doesn't belong

Ever notice how these things always take place on jungle worlds or desert planets? Never any temperate places with broadleaf forests and rolling hills. Always craggy jungles or craggy deserts.

It's Avatar They're acknowledging that they don't give a crap about minutiae and lost all their best writers. I'm not a fan Star Wars, and what we saw looked far more grounded yet still convincing. There's no need for space magic here. What Flynn really meant was "More like Destiny" aka vague and doesn't compell you to care about it.

My guess is that it has to do with their audience. Most of the people who buy their games don't live in deserts, jungles, etc. so it's a window to places you don't normally see/live in. That's why I was never overly impressed by the W3's environments, as they were just like places I've either lived in or been to. And that's why I liked the environments in DAI more, as many of them were unlike anywhere I had been to.

Just some basic textures for sand and dirt and the like, a couple of pretty rock formations and voila, desert world. Most jungle worlds are so busy and look so similar that I mix them up. While I've never played it, but I'll give credit for what I've seen from DAI. The environments seem pretty varied and the ones I saw looked nice. I guess it isn't really fair to fault Bioware for the jungle world thing, since that's not really a traditional archetype of their world design. But even so, it does feel a bit overdone.

Space magic! Wait, whaa...? Mass Effect is full of Space Magic! If Anthem wanted to contrast with ME, it'd hard science-fiction. not really. Me science is based on quantum physics. Or more a super up version of it were it can break some laws of science. It still is using gravity, quantum teleportation (aka enegy drain, aka mind melds of the asari and leviathan ) and quantum tunneling (charge, mass relays.). The only thing that is space magic is the synthesis ending.

But it's no more science fiction than Star Wars. Eezo is a magical element, you might as well call it Lyrium. Exposure to Eezo dust granting Biotic Powers is like being sprinkled with Fairy Dust and becoming a Mage. I don't call the Hulk hard science fiction just because they used the words "Gamma Radiation" in lieu of "Magic" to explain his creation. QEC communicators? Again, just because they used the words "Quantum Entanglement" doesn't mean it isn't space magic. Any physicist will tell you it doesn't work to transmit data ftl. And so on, and so forth...

There was also a lots of bio-luminescence (like we can see underwater and a bit later in the trailer) and the humans had exosuits (bigger than those in Anthem though).

And so on, and so forth... under stand that science fantasy is about making the impossible possible and science fiction is about making the improbable possible. Eezo is not space magic. It has a clear explication and if the conspet was applied to our world it would only be improbable mean that it is not impossible for us to fine it's equivalent one day. Lyric is way different being that it is a byproduct of somthing else that has no real expliantion. The world of the dust would be like going to another dimension with an additional law to the lwa of physics. Eezo just effect the laws of physic already there. Sorry but it not space magic like gravity, the byproduct we have yet to fully understand why it works, is not magic.the only argument with space magic in mass effect is star travel, shepards revilval from death and the synthesis ending.
