So if this is an on-line multiplayer game (which I played once for about 10 minutes) how do companions work - banter, romances, personal quests? Wouldn't any story or dialogue be pretty much mission based? I did play Diablo on line for 10 minutes, but I just did my own thing anyway... the others just seemed like a distraction - I didn't team up with anyone. I just don't get how it all works If we get companions, and I dunno if we would, SWTOR had the working just fine. You got your party interactions and all solo stuff in personal instances on your own, where you could invite other players, but only as spectators for class story (and fighting with you). You could even do combo groups that mixed real peeps and their AI driven companions. It was actually pretty neat. But I think here if we do get any personal relationships, it's likely be solo with important non-party chars in the world.

I don't have online gaming friends. I like solo. Maybe there should be an option to team up with like-minded solo players to play together in a non social way? "let's do this." "Ok." Ten minutes later. "See ya." "Git gud." How I envision it.

Really good idea, if we solo'd together, we'd really tear up the enemies. We just need a good match-making system for the solo players to team up.

I have 3 gaming systems. With all three, came the headset with mic. All three headsets are still in their original plastic in a drawer in my living room lol. There is a friend of mine that is willing to buy a PS4 and get the game when it comes out and we will play it together. But I will definitely be a noob at first, floundering like a turtle on it's back.

If it turns out to be shared world like Destiny, you won't even need match-making for random mobs or public world events. Public world events in a shared world game are fun and useful and I hope they have them. I learned a ton watching how more experienced players dealt with scheduled public world events, just be watching what they did and how they organized their attacks and how they anticipated the spawn points of various waves (no doubt from having farmed the event a few times). And all without a word being spoken between us.

Hang on, the only way I could play with my daughters is on my sofa. Will it do couch co-op? What if your daughter tries to romance you in-game? What will you do?

Smh Sorry I don't understand ... Those who want to play alone should connect with others? What does it mean? The poster deleted his/her account, but what s/he meant is that it is ironic for BioWare to create a game with a promoted MP component and shut down social forum where people can meet, and form groups and guilds for the game. SWTOR, their other MP title has such a forum. It is as if they rely on players outside their fandom or gaming friendships that formed over other games, not freshly forged over mutual interest in Anthem.

Absolutely my favorite part of the Anthem reveal trailer was the totally unrealistic party banter. If that is how Bioware believes groups of people actually behave online, no wonder their designs are so f--king bizarre.

The next trailer guest stars Leeroy Jenkins, so might be a better representation.

So, Anthem is for 'you and your friends'. But I don't have any friends! This is not a play for sympathy I do have some actual friends, just not those who play online. When I get some time to play, I want to very easily match-make with people to play with, but not have to mess about or be pestered by people 'looking for group'. Basically, I want the PUG matchmaking mechanics to be really sophisticated so that even a loner like me can get a game when I want (and only for so long as I want) with no strings and no hassle. In terms of matchmaking, is that too much to ask? Do such matchmaking tools exist? Are there any games that do it well? You have us, don't we count?

There's a slim chance I may be able to get a decent gaming desktop to replace my aging laptop that won't be able to handle Anthem. Until then, if I decide to try Anthem I'm likely going to play it on PS4. I know 1 other person (in real life) that owns a PS4, so I'm limited on online friends in that department. Maybe I can find people here *shrug*

I haven't seen an official word if Anthem will have a clan system, but both Destiny and The Division do so if they are aiming for that style of game that could be something we do as a group. Of course until we know more information this is all speculation.

Ah, yes, finding a match.
Easier said than done, if ME3MP and MEAMP is anything to go buy. There are simply too many variables for a "match making" algorithm to control. I'm talking about, country / continent restrictions, time zones, distance between players (affects lag), MP levels, custom levels and player densities.... etc.
For example: Once school started, I found player densities in MEAMP diminished during class times and improved later on. Also, at this time, MP level choices are slim. This co-op game will be like the previous ME MP games, with an added marketing BS of "for you and your friends". If you think about it, it's no different than playing MEAMP using the private session.
Don't expect anything new or radical regarding solo and match making.

^^^ The game actually demands better matchmaking and more stable "netcode", and I do actually fully expect BioWare to improve these aspects. It is an all-in deal for them, and I think they'll pull it off.
Honestly, I expect this game to be good. Good enough that I consider buying it after release and initial patch cycle.

Hm... Demanding and achieving are at the opposite ends. ME3MP and MEAMP matchmaking is what I expect from Anthem. Frankly, I see little improvement from the latter. Uncontrolled variables are still there. Player densities in arbitrary zones and time slots is the key to finding a "match" that suits your requirements. It applies now and in the future with Anthem.
Let's look forward to a sound Anthem success story.
