I always say this, but I am a little bit massively jealous of anyone playing HZD for the first time... it's just eeeeeeeeeeeeermagheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerd for so many reasons I've seen many people claim it's overrated. Although, I suspect the setting might not be for everyone as is playing as something else than a white Dudebro... Yea hthe moment I saw it I knwe i twas likely a game I'd enjoy if it ever got a PC release and whilst it is a bit belated I'm just glad it is getting one. As I think HZD is one o fthose games based on what I've heard tha tdeserves t obe recognised having a PC release will help do that.

I've seen many people claim it's overrated. Although, I suspect the setting might not be for everyone as is playing as something else than a white Dudebro... It isn't. I remember Sony doing some focus testing for the game while it was in development because they were nervous that a female protagonist would hurt sales, and they were relieved to find that nobody really gave a damn considering how insanely awesome everything else about it was. There was a bit of general outrage over someone daring to treat male and female protagonists differently, obviously. Personally I thought it was a sensible thing to ascertain while gambling millions of dollars on a product instead of either changing Aloy to a man or just ducking their heads for fear of scandalizing the budding SJW community. And the results were an encouraging indicator that as long as a piece of entertainment is fundamentally well-crafted and has characters and story that fit together organically then the protagonists' dangly bits are never going to seem out of place. To whit, I spent my lunch breaks the first week after it came out gushing about how great it was with several Dudebro colleagues who were playing it too. At a construction site. While it's one of the games that has totally vindicated my decision to buy a PS4 in 2016, it's seriously way too good to be restricted to consoles. I'm glad the rest of you guys are finally going to get to play it. My favorite is the Nora Lookout armor. I usually change between that and the Carja Blazon depending on the climate.

Overrated? No, I don't think so. I remember getting a 10-minute gameplay taster at EGX, and I thought, hmm, yeah ok, maybe it's in the vein of far cry and I like that sort of thing so I'll get it, but I couldn't have been more wrong (except it can look as much or as more pretty, and yes there are collectables but they are worth the effort of getting them because of either where they take you, or the story they tell).
I can list on a bit more than one hand the number of games that I have done two playthroughs of, and I did three with HZD, including NG+ on ultra-hard, and I would happily do more if I had the time.

Aloy not being female would also have meant... the story would have lost many of the thematic elements that only work because Aloy is female, such as her coming from a matriarchal society, being the clone of the woman responsible for figuring out how to rebirth the entire world and her relationship with her surrogate father Rost (who is revealed to have had a daughter that died). Moreover, Aloy being male would have meant that we'd have started the game as a man, in a society run by women who further ostracised us because we don't have a mother. You just know that there are people online who would have then gone on to claim HZD was "woke anti-male propaganda"... even though I have the feeling that those same people probably have made the same critique because Aloy is a woman as well.

FYI I just threw some spoiler tags in because I don't want to read any spoilers as I haven't actually finished the game at all. I have no idea if the rest of this thread has spoilers in it, but with the recent announcement for the PC release, I'd like to ask people to try to flag their posts with the spoiler tag, if it's going to have info it in.
Thanks!

Well, thanks for all the spoilers I guess. Terribly sorry, since the game had been out for so long and we were several pages into the thread, I hadn't considered that those reading might not have played it already. My bad, will remember to tag everything from hereon. FYI I just threw some spoiler tags in because I don't want to read any spoilers as I haven't actually finished the game at all. Sounds a bitlike mine then as by the timeI've used all the different classes in either ME or DA I've often forgotten what I did in my first playthrough. But yeah looking forward to playing it myself probably onmy new PC as wel considering I'm in hte throws of getting one. Thankfully due to not many games catching my eye atm other than HZD's PC release and the Avengre's gameit leaves a fair bit ofgaming money for me to get a new system in prep for next gen. I've marked out the parts I want though I haven't ordered it yet as I want to give i tsome more thought before I confirm my order. Though tbh it's likely I will press ordser on it.

Since this is still supposed to come out for PC sometime this year, would those of you who have played it recommend it for Bioware fans? In terms of the dialogue and choices affecting either (1) how the player-character's personality develops or (2) the outcome of the story, how would you say it compares to the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games?

I would recommend this game to BioWare fans for the emotional storytelling. It gave me more feels than any recent BioWare game. And I still believe the open world quest design should be a blueprint for BioWare to model their next open world game after.
NOT for having any sort of influence on the story or the character's choices! Aloy is a pretty set character and it's a linear story. The player gets to pick three flavors of reply choices which DO add a tiny amount of freedom. But we're talking nuances and overall there's little roleplaying to be had. And there are no romance options. You can flirt a bit but that's it.
BioWare fans might like the diversity in this game. Felt a lot like a BioWare game in this respect. People of all color and orientation can be found. And there's a lot of girl power in the game (not just Aloy) people may or may not approve of.
It's an action game, not an RPG.

Like what Kappa Neko said, the story of HZD is linear but it is a story full of questions that are mostly answered and still leave more at the end; the kind that makes you want more and wondering at mystery threads. Any dialogue choices that sort of count for the end is whether and how the SQs are done. 1] Protag personality. She starts out with questions and learn more of herself and the world at the end. 2] For me, yes. It's well written and some parts tip the emotional scale. The kind that makes one go; wtf, why?!! FU ****!!! I'm so going to kill ... omg, how much stupidity / arrogance / madness there is ... Did I play the game? No because I don't own a console and don't intend to own one. I watched the entire game play over Twitch and enjoyed every minute of it. So I'm definitely getting this on PC despite knowing the story because for me, I think it's worth it.

So now that the sequel was announced, when are we getting the first one on PC?
Summer 2020 is vague and they have a promo with AMD CPU that ends on June 30th and going by pass promo like it, the game release before the promo ends. That's barely more than 2 weeks from now...

Can't wait!!! I'm slightly on the fence about the art style but more Aloy is awesome no matter what, I hope.

I would have preferred to play as a new character, personally. I felt like Aloy's story was pretty neatly wrapped up. But I cannot wait for this. I'm really looking forward to exploring underwater, but what I really, REALLY want is more creatures we can use as mounts, particularly one that can swim and one that can fly.
