Game's a masterpiece. Visually stunning. Addictive gameplay and especially fun combat (am I the only one thinking it would be really well suited to an MP horde mode?), great characters and a fascinating universe that does something unique with the "toasters (almost) destroy mankind" trope. Killzone was already lowkey one of the best (and most underappreciated) shooter franchises out there. Can't wait to see where Horizon goes. Guerilla have some truly talented folks onboard.

BEWARE SIDE QUEST BURNOUT!The game is super deep in quest content, as well as visuals and exploration opportunities. You can get lost. I came right to the edge of getting sick of the game, but caught myself doing too many of the same kind of side quests (damn you, Errands!) Now I'm focusing only on one of the two main story quests and am much happier. I'm overleveled by almost 2x, but I only have myself to blame for that. It's easy to get seduced into side quest burnout. On the way to some main quest stage, you figure, what the heck, I'm near one of those side quest locations, I'll just do it while I'm here and move on. Three hours later you're trundling back to the quest giver to pick up the reward and lost the thread on what you were doing in the main quest! This can also happen with Corrupted Zones , ordinary machine sites when you need a particular crafting material, or even just stocking up on Fatty Meat in a game preserve. There is seduction everywhere! All that said, there is one type of side quest I highly recommend as worth it -- Cauldrons. They are not only experentially varied from your day-to-day hunter-gathering, they are also fun! Plus the reward gives a few more options when encountering machine mobs. I like overriding a ranged attacker and letting them take out the rest of a mob. I just sit back and watch the fun! Another fun tip: if there is a predator type near a group of highway bandits, lure the predator to them and let them kill each other. That never gets old.

Glixel: PlayStation is Winning – But What Next? www.glixel.com/news/playstation-is-winning-but-what-next-w485683So far, so good – 2017 got off to a strong start with the release of open world action RPG Horizon Zero Dawn from Sony's Guerrilla Games studio in Amsterdam, which has now sold 3.4 million copies. "We've been so proud of what that studio has been able to do," he says. "It's a brave step for that studio to go from making shooters like Killzone to an open world game."
The success of Horizon has been a proof point for Sony that gamers still want large-scale, epic narrative games. With so many studios talking about "games as a service" and large online experiences that rely on player interaction rather than scripted narrative, it's refreshing to see that Sony still firmly believes in games like Uncharted, Horizon and upcoming titles like God of War. "That's what we do well," Layden says. "We'd hate to force a mechanic on something. Can you have online arena tournament play? Well...only if it needs it."img.wennermedia.com/620-width/horizon-34-c9ebd18f-5921-4edb-b702-479af6bac180.png- Those sound like pretty good numbers for a console-exclusive RPG. They'd probably pull somewhere between 2-3x those numbers on a wider release.

They'd probably pull somewhere between 2-3x those numbers on a wider release. Here are a couple of data points for comparison: FFXV sold 4.3m as of April. That's globally, across 3 platforms, but not including PC. Fallout 4 sold 13.2m globally, on 3 platforms including PC. So against those metrics, I think HZD as a platform exclusive has kicked some serious ass, and I agree the upside if it had been cross-platform (assuming they didn't fumble the ports) would be 2-3x. Above estimates according to: www.vgchartz.com/

If on all platforms I'd figure somewhere around 7-7,5 million sales or so given that Playstation is the larger of the platforms and that whenever we get to see sales on multiplatform games the PC tend to be much smaller than the 2 consoles. Still Horizon has done exceptionally well and proven that new IPs work and female lead IPs work

Oh cool, Aloy is looking for answers. Is she going to try to bring back Gaia? Or is she looking for the knowledge to bring back Apollo or the origin of the corruption? Looking forward to Twitch streams on this or I can watch YT.

So, got scared off SWOTOR with it's keyboard/mouse requirements, so this game will actually be my "next game to play." I know there is dialogue choices but do they matter? I know there are no romances. I know there is a female protag named Aloy and it's set some hundreds year after some apocalypse and these robot creatures are all that remain of that time.
Are there any non spoiler tips like, "Get thee from the Hinterlands" like there was for DAI?

There is one map as opposed to the way it was in DAI. Not everything is visible at first, it clears as you go. (Somewhat like Skyrim's map). There are some zones you may want to avoid until you level up and they are usually marked with recommendations. I was somewhat thorough in my PT and I clocked 100 hours. I had a blast playing it. I don't think this is a spoiler but If I had it to do over, I would have cleared the Tallneck areas and the cauldrons sooner than I did.

PS Boss: We’ll Be in The ‘Horizon’ Business for A Long Time, Guerrilla Has Multiple Years Roadmapwccftech.com/ps-boss-horizon-business-long-time/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterThe reception for the game has been fantastic. [Guerrilla Games head honcho] Hermen Hulst has got a very keen mind on where he wants to take Horizon and what the roadmap is – and that roadmap is expressed in multiple years. I think we’ll be in the Horizon business for a long time.

Are there any non spoiler tips like, "Get thee from the Hinterlands" like there was for DAI? phoray I'm level 30 in my first playthrough and still haven't finished either of the main quests, lol. So here are some "I wish I knew this before I started tips:" First and foremost, give yourself time to explore. The world is rich and full of wonders. Don't let the pressure of the gazillion quests you accumulate force you to rush from one zone to another. Take your time, look around, see the sights. You'll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas and some collectibles that you can only find if you really look for them. Plus, wandering around aides hunting + gathering, which is essential in the early game. Tip: almost everything is climbable, and you'll often find stuff at the top of a cliff, pile of rocks, or ruin. Don't worry if you over-level a little. If the next main quest stage says Level 15, and you are Level 18, that's fine, it's not like you will waltz through it. Basically, if you are finding quest stages too hard (die too often), just level up and keep that constant offset of over-leveling, like +3, +5, +8, whatever. You'll find your comfort level that way. Second, as mentioned, there are a gazillion quests. Don't be overwhelmed. Choose quests selectively. I started to get burned-out by doing too many Errands. Those are very much like Hinterlands fetch quests. Do those only if you need the rewards, which are always stated up front, so you can make an informed decision. Focus on the two main quest storylines, and selectively choose side-quests, errands, bandit camps, machine sites, etc., only as they interest you. However, and third, do explore every Cauldron you find (and do the associated Tallneck), in the order that they appear on your spear. If you stumble upon Zeta before you've done Sigma, stay away. Do them in order. They have a progression which is more enjoyable if you do them in the right order. They are what amounts to dungeon crawls, if this were a fantasy RPG. They contain puzzles and enemies to defeat. Skills to buy first: - Lure Call
- Silent Strike
- Concentration
I didn't do this because normally it's a mistake to spread your initial points across three skill trees, but these skills are used constantly, regardless of what playstyle you choose to pursue as Aloy. Speak of playstyles, it's a good idea to decide this as early as possible. It will help make skill purchase decisions, gear and upgrades, and how to approach various quests and in what order. The three main styles are: - Stealth - you sneak around and take out enemies with no one the wiser
- Brave/Tank - you run up the middle, draw all the enemies out, and rely on your armor to protect you while you run-and-gun or smite your foes
- Trapper - you craft traps, trips, and bombs and use the environment, elements and explosions (the three E's) to take out foes
You'll notice that "Hunter" is not a playstyle, because everyone has to hunt and gather to some extent. It's a basic part of the game mechanic.
These playstyles roughly translate to the three skill trees: Prowler, Brave, Forager, although the latter has more general support and enhancement buffs.
Money (shards) is scarce at first, so be thorough in cleaning out supply chests and looting corpses early on. Steal like there is no tomorrow, nobody will mind. After you progress the main quest a bit, though, money becomes plentiful, so you can stop grabbing every little thing you find and start being more selective. However, even in the early game, don't sell any Resources that are Uncommon (green), Rare (blue) or Ultra Rare (purple). Some of the best gear requires one or more of those items. Later, you'll be able to buy most of the green and blues from a vendor, but that's unlocked later in the main quest line. If you have a bunch of one green/blue item, like Watcher Lens, keep one full stack, sell the rest. Gear upgrades are also ranked with the same rarities and you'll run out of inventory room for them quickly, so what I do is I sell the ones (green) with the lowest benefits. +5% anything is great in the early game, but pretty worthless pretty quickly. Once you start getting double-digit upgrades, you can start selling the single digit ones.
Final tip, let's say there some gear, like the Shadow Sling, that you desperately want. It requires 650 shards + 1 Crystal Braiding (blue) to purchase. You have the shards, you don't have the Crystal Braiding. No worries, there is a button that lets you turn the purchase requirements into a "Job". A job is like an errand, it gets listed in your quests. You can make it active, and the game will tell you where you can get the item you need! You don't have to try to remember that you need Crystal Braiding to buy that weapon, the game remembers for you and tells you how to go about getting it.
P.S. I almost forgot, buy all the collectible maps asap. Even if collectibles are not your thing (and the rewards are not that great for getting complete sets even if they are), buy the maps anyway. They are cheap and they give you something to do when you just want to explore. As soon as you notice a merchant selling maps, just buy all of them. The Vistas are worth collecting regardless. They are cool and add some historical color to the game.

Are there any? The result of some sidequests will show in the ending sequence if you do them. I have no idea if there would be a failure if they're not done but I'm guessing not from what I saw, they're basically optional, not vital. HZD is not like ME2 where if you fail several checkpoints, the protag can die and you officially end with that. HZD is mainly lauded for the combat, gameplay, world and story, not the diversity of choices affecting ending. The story is pretty well set in stone. I'd also suggest playing on normal difficulty. The mobs don't have any extra / special combat moves at a higher level, they're just bullet sponges.

Been staring at stuff, wondering what it i or used to be. Also, keep going to all the corners and there is no loot also, why wouldn't Aloy grab more sparkle triangles to bring back to Rost etc. *Wanders away from Rost to see if she can climb the mountain* *Rost yells at her to do as she's told* *Inexplicably chastened* XD

There might be. They're not within the zones in the game since those are already established and mostly controlled by a few different factions. I'm guessing in the upcoming DLC, we'll see some of them.

So, Rost told me to settle things before the Big Event, so I was like, "Okay, need more arrows. How about I travel across the map and back and by the time I return, I'll be fully stocked." But then when I was on my way bck I realized I was using the very things I was stocking up on.. But, I did earn earn enough exp to upgrade my resource gathering so refilling my quiver won't take so long anymore. ^^ I haven't minded crafting hunting and gathering as much as I'd have thought. But now it's time for the Big Event and I'm concerned about Rost. o-o kinda feel like they've made it obvious which way he'll be going-- which is dead. PS after traveling across this land 10 times, I'd like to have the thingie that lets me hack into the horses and ride them.
