The comments on that video want me to bleach my eyes, then go around to their parents and berate them for procreating. What people mocking the usage of "hella"?

So, if this isn't GOTY then gaming is truly lost. Why? Because teen lesbians? I'm going the friendship route. As to the episode itself, that beginning with James' explanation for his secrets is...hard to watch...it makes for a much clearer picture as to what's going on.

My choices: Learning the truth about Sera was rather painful. While James' actions were terrible, I can definitely understand why he'd do what he did (well, short of hiring a hit man)
I did NOT tell Rachel the truth about what happened. I couldn't do that to her. She still has a loving family and it would be terrible to destroy that. No real good would come of it. Got treated to an epilogue scene of Chloe having dinner at the Ambers'. Everyone was laughing and talking, with Chloe sitting there looking kinda guilty.
Killed the plant with soda. It has electrolytes, which plants crave, amirite?
I accepted David's photograph. He was trying, in his awkward, fumbling way, to bond with Chloe, and such efforts should be recognized. I don't know if it changed anything, but in the epilogue, there was a scene of David proposing to Joyce, followed by the three of them in an awkward hug. I know the peace doesn't last, but it's nice to think there was at least a period of detente between them.
I didn't have Drew's money at the start of the day. Heck, I don't think Chloe ever had any money in my run.
Visited the Norths in the hospital. Did another D&D session with Mikey. In the epilogue, both brothers were playing with Steph. Too bad Chloe wasn't with them.
Didn't donate to the firefighters' fund. Didn't have any money anyway. They sure twisted the knife about how many got hurt in the fire though.
Revealed Thunder as the snitch. I didn't want to risk lying to Damon
Rachel did not meet her mother. I tried to convince her, but failed. Or maybe I had to tell Rachel the truth for it to happen. Hey, at least Sera survived! (Okay I'm not sure she can die, but the situation certainly looked serious)

So Eliot was the super creepy and clingy obsessed stalker I thought Warren would end up being when playing the original. He was still kinda right about Rachel, though. As was her Dad when describing Sera in the beginning which I thought very obviously was intended to be a description of Rachel as well.
Not that it justifies being a possessive creeper or hiring a thug to fucking KILL Sera, mind you.
Frank is such a fucking bro, btw. When it counted, he was willing to fight a knife-wielding maniac TWICE to help Chloe, Rachel and Sera. And apparently even ended up killing him.
And in the end I decided to lie to Rachel. While it feels shitty to let her dad get away with what he did, and I still don't like Rachel, her mental state is messy enough as it is without her finding out her dad arranged to have her biological mom killed in order to "protect" her. I may not be a huge fan, but she doesn't deserve to have everything in her life ruined. Sometimes a lie is better.

Some thoughts on Episode 3. On the whole, I am conflicted. The episode had seem great moments that genuinely gave me the feels: - The chat with Rachel in her room - The rush to the hospital and the scene of her waiting - The part where Chloe gets beaten up - Of course the kicker at the end with the mobile ringing after the photobooth shots, that was very well done However, there are a few notable problems with it. The chief one is mainly the lack of Rachel & Chloe. For me this prequel has been at its best when exploring the relationship between these two. I had high hopes for where this was going after Episode 2, which was excellent in that regard. However this fell really flat and it was very noticeable. Up until the junkyard scene it had a lot going for it, but removing Rachel for half the episode (and thus the interaction with Chloe) was for me a real misstep. The other issue stemming from this is that it basically froze everything (whether friends or more), with insufficient variation for either aspect to be confirmed. There were scenes were I was literally shouting at the screen "KISS HER FOR GOD'S SAKE" as it would have been the natural thing to do, based on the outcomes I had in Episode 2 and if you were trying to comfort your new love. Obviously if it was just friendship then I suspect his would not be an issue for some, but for me it was very jarring. Finally, the scene with Elliott made no sense whatsoever, and felt largely shoehorned in. That entire scene could have been played out without him being present. In fact, it would have been more effective if it had been done with Rachel, with her discovering the truth about her Dad's actions herself. This would have set up a much more effective Mill scene as well . As regards to other elements: - I accepted David's photo, largely from meta gaming his actions in LIS 1 and the fact that Chloe would do it to keep her mum happy - I hid the truth from Rachel. I agonised over this a bit, but thought about what Rachel needed (a Dad to love and trust) which she herself states. My mum left me when I was very young, and I grew up just with my Dad (my mum was also into drugs and shit like that). I a also a father to two girls now, and I would do everything to keep them safe. So having experienced both sides of this I knew the best thing was to hide it, for Rachel's sake. Give her something to cling on to - Nathan sat with Samantha by the tree at the end, as well as visited her in the hospital. I understand there is quite a lot of variance here - The ending montage really needed a variation where they are romantically together, it was very ambiguous - The kicker was needed I think to draw a line under their development. I think it is interesting that Rachel has the same image on her phone that Chloe does. Hmm
I'm glad they made this. I am disappointed they didn't do a better job with Episode 3; however on the whole it's been good. Just needed more of Rachel and Chloe.

I listened in on their conversation in the hospital. And when the talk moved to Nathan wanting to photograph Samantha, I had a " My God, What Have I Done" moment in encouraging that relationship

Am I the only one who told Rachel the truth? When I played the game, the statistics were 52/48 in favor of lying to her, so a near-even split.

Am I the only one who felt the game would have been better if it focused on telling new stories with the new characters, as opposed to a prequel where nothing you do matters? It doesn't matter if you try to make peace between Chloe and David, they still end up at odds in Life is Strange. Even if you show Nathan sympathy, he won't get the help he needs, still become Jefferson's pawn, and his father's a Karma Houdini. Despite how friendly they can become, Chloe and Frank are antagonistic and act like they barely interacted. Rachel still dies. Yes, you can argue that Rachel's loss caused Chloe to lash out and destroy any good will she garnered, but why offer Chloe any choices if the game will invalidate them? What's the point of seeing these doomed characters again, beyond fanservice and lazy devs reusing assets?
Personally, I think the story could have been just as good, if not better if it focused on the new characters. Steph seemed a nice blend of Max and Chloe with wider roleplay options, and Sera could have just as easily been her or Samantha's mother. The North brothers had several hooks with Steph, Damon and the Prescotts. Skip and Thunder had untapped potential. But the worst was Elliot; in Before the Storm he's little more than fodder for people who hated Warren, but he could have also been a good foil for Nathan. The game missed the opportunity the help get the unbalanced Elliot the help and possible redemption Nathan never got, providing a good contrast to all three young men. Not saying such help should have been easy, but it would have added layers to the character, different narrative branches, and player choice. Instead, the writers leave him as one note creeper. Seriously, if none of these characters provide different enough paths from the previous cast, what was the point in using them?

Season 2 (that supposedly is in the works somehow) will be someone else.
Before the Storm was a... companion to Season 1 more than anything.

It's basically an opportunity to get to know Rachel, who never actually appeared in LiS despite all the talk about her.
