It's amazing that three people upvoted a complete and blatant lie. You can't possibly get the variant weapons until the base weapon is already at X. So it's impossible to get "worthless I-X regular drops stealing your money" if you can get the variant weapons. Except that according to a BioWare Dev you can get the variant first, it is just weighted to be less likely until you have unlocked the basic version at X. You really need to stop accusing every person who says something you don't like of being part of an evil conspiracy. You're starting to look like a bit of a lunatic. If you're referring to the quote in OP, that's referring to variants dropping before non-variants of other types of weapons are maxed. If we're talking variants of one gun, those will only drop after X of the base gun has been reached--this is more well-known so I didn't put it in OP. eg. Red Hornet will only drop after regular Hornet X, but after Hornet X, Red Hornet might have a small chance to drop before regular Isharay IX.

Yea, it was one of the first things mentioned on stream and it goes in line with how S weapons worked--don't see them til common version is X.

I had 13 million credits to burn last night.... decent amount to notice a few trends: - The UR variants, WOULD NOT drop until I had the Kishock 10. I was getting UR character cards, but not a single variant UR dropped until Kishock was level 10. After that, then variant guns dropped. - Maybe this was pure luck, but the rare variant cards would drop the level 1 of a gun... and continue dropping a different level 1 gun. I didn't get a level 2 variant until all the rares had a level 1 gun of the same variant. So Talon Siphon 1, Scorpion Talon 1, Halberd Siphon 1 etc.......... and once all the siphons dropped, then I got a level 2. I didn't get all concussive or bulwarks, and the ones I do have are level 1. But I did get all the rare siphons, and only those guns went to level 2 and up. Not sure if that is a pure coincidence, but it was almost as if RNG was waiting for me to have every gun in a certain variant before dropping the level 2 cards. - None of the new mods dropped for me. I assume they're last on the list of things to fall, as characters & guns will fall first. Once those max out, then the mods will start dropping. Otherwise, you can buy them with mission funds right now which is stupid. Appreciate your info but other people are reporting the opposite, which means there's no rule in place and this is simply RNG. I personally have rank II weapon variants while the vast majority of my weapons, from the same tier, still have no variants. New mods don't drop from packs, btw. Item Store only.

Last night got a Black Widow Variant (siphon I). It was my only UR weapon at X. This SUCKS BALLS! Now I have to worry about 29 more Black Widow variants in the damn RNG pool stopping my Rozerad and Hurricane upgrades...
My lucky ass brother also got a Hurricane variant and it is his only UR at X. so you can easily get these without everything else maxed first...

i don't fucking get it so if i get new variabt dropped al previous normal drops end up being wasted? No, the weapon needs to be X in order to get any variant to drop. The problem is that once a weapon hits X, it unlocks 30 extra cards into the drop pool thereby reducing the chances of actually getting another weapon to X.

i don't fucking get it so if i get new variabt dropped al previous normal drops end up being wasted? What? No. If you have any weapon at X (past Commons, they have no variants) then that weapon is now allowed to get 30 variant cards. I don't know how many weapons there are and I'm too lazy to count, so let's just say 100. In Patch 1.08, Hank had all 100 weapons at rank IX. Which means he is only 100 weapon cards away from maxing his manifest. Patch 1.09 comes. Hank still only has 100 possible weapon cards to get for his next card, because weapons have to be at X before you can get their variants. He opens a box and it's the PAW X. Now instead of 99 possible cards for him to unlock, he's got 129, because the 30 new variant cards are in the hopper for him to draw from. If his next card is another base weapon at X, that's now 158 cards in the hopper. And so on. You can still choose to use the base weapon X if you wanted, though it'd be silly since the variants have the same stats. Stay away from Siphon though if it's your only one since it's got fucked up ammo priming.

I've taken to using my siphon shadow as a sidearm, purely for some health regeneration which is handy on platinum. As a side note, it seems to fuck with rage health regen, but it was chaotic as all he'll so hardly constitutes a proper test. I'll check it out when I get back to my PC tomorrow.

So is everyone mad that it takes longer to max their manifest, or that they have more space between them and their favorite weapon?
I honestly don't get where the "bad" is in this, if you like MEAMP, you'll play MEAMP. Maxing your manifest shouldn't be why you play. And in that "trying to get this or that weapon/card" issue. If your buying premium packs, you will get your said card. Only issue I can even see, is trying to get said character to X while your maxing out. Not a phenomenal thing to not have all your character points, especially in gold where a level 1 character with 3 points in total doesn't have much drawback since the game is more geared towards weapons and boosters.
So unless you just don't use your gun, or use weapon boosters, then I don't see the problem.

The Kishock and the variants for those 4 weapons now get released with 1.09 leaving you with potentially 120 UR cards to unlock before you unlock any Kishock cards. How is that a good thing? I'd honestly like to know. Edited - I derped on the maths.

I don't really remember 100% if I maxed my ME3 manifest, but I sure as hell gained patience and learned how to deal with overwhelming manifest completion problems... ....so everything in this game is like a walk in the park. And idk if you can see my manifest on that MEA app or w/e, but no, I have no 1 or 2 (I don't really know if I don't care to use them) level X weapons and a level XI asari duelist I don't even use. If the kishock is there, I will unlock it, even if there are 20x30 other URs in my way. I wont die because I'm not using it right RIGHT RIGHT now...if anything im more concerned about the grenaded pinwheel catepillar in the butthole pugs in my way on the journey...

Wait, if special version at rank I have same stats as normal version at rank X, what does ranks II-X of special versions actually do?

Wait, if special version at rank I have same stats as normal version at rank X, what does ranks II-X of special versions actually do? They have extra stats. Whatever the variant, each level progressively gives you more of that.

I'm not sure you realise the scale of the issue, since you still seem to think there isn't a problem. Every time you go on to max any other non-variant weapon, you're potentially adding an additional 30 UR cards to the same pool. Going back to my original estimate of 120 and assuming a generous 25% UR drop rate, you're potentially looking at 480 arsenal packs (384 successful platinum games) of bloated content before unlocking genuinely new content. Of course this is a very simplistic view of things. Imagine you max the additional 10 pre 1.09 UR weapons before ever seeing a Kishock.... Do I need to go on? If you still think there isn't an issue here, then I've really got nothing more to say to you.

It seems to matter a great deal how much you use something. All the common lvl 1 kits get upgrades, lvl 20 hardly. I have 5 kits at lvl 1 XX. All the others are at max XIV. And reserve pack give me 1/3 kits, 2/3 Bulshit weapons.

Yeah my rares were maxed before today, I spent 2 million and only have the batarian at rank 1... I must be lucky then. Using 5 of those 50.000 credits boxes i got my Batarian to Level III. It is a really good character. I put the remnant shotgun on him and he destroys at close-medium range. But yeah this new weapon variants are stupid (+30 cards for weapon? WTH!) and ugly too. Why not create new weapons instead? Or balance the ones already there to keep then useable. I could understand the S variants but this now looks like to much grind to my tastes. Not even ME3MP was that bad with the griding.
