Still waiting to play. I decided to be nice and wait until Mr. Skelly gets off work so that he can see the intro gameplay. I figure, I've been waiting five years for more Deus Ex...another three hours won't kill me, LOL.

I'll probably get this tomorrow, but what are your impressions on the game so far? How does it compare to the first game, and HR in regards to gameplay, and story?

Well, I play at a snail's pace, so I'm just at the end of the first mission - I'll finish the final encounter tomorrow when I'm more rested - but so far, it feels just like playing a smoother version of HR. There's a very comfortable familiarity about it.

It looks like I won't be able to get over 120fps @ 1080p on high settings with my current setup. Hopefully the game will be more optimized through future game and driver updates. Do you have a 120Hz monitor? With the DX12 update slated for early September you might get there on your current setup. If you have an AMD card you should get a really big boost (because AMD drivers struggle a bit more in DX11 than nVidia drivers in general). I'm curious to know what you guys think of it. I'm a little hesitant after reading some reviews so I'm sitting on my hands for a bit and waiting for the sales. I'm mostly interested in how the overall story plays, one reviewer said it wasn't very complete and was like episode one of a tv show. That it didn't have the epicness of DE:HR basically. Animations are a little sketchy too. I'll tell you more when I'm a bit further into the game, but for now it is Deus Ex and it feels much better than HR. I have to get used to the inventory and aug system again, haven't played a DX game in more than two years, but I still remember how to sneak past everyone (when I don't fail and get killed ). yo I bought the game on my PC, but i'm not sure if it's even gonna run tbh (i5-4670k CPU and an AMD 7950 3GB GPU) but hey it's Steam so if it won't run I can just refund it ayy You should be above the minimum spec and you have enough video RAM to turn on most settings. Temporal AA is very effective, so there's no need to even turn on MSAA (which has the biggest performance impact on the game, so far).

i just saw some reviews on steam ; microtransactions in a single player mode? They are limited to the Breach gamemode, which isn't attracting me anyway and doesn't affect the SP in any way. It's still bullshit, this shouldn't happen. It feels like they made Breach just to put microtransactions in it.

We would hear such a huge outrage if they were part of the campaign that Square Enix would have to change shape faster than they 180'd on the preorder madness. Ideally I would not buy nor recommend a full price game with microtransactions in it, but Deus Ex is too good to pass. I hope this doesn't set a new, shitty trend. By the way, lots of people have been talking about the DRM in this, which seems to be Denuvo, and that they have a lot of moral issues with it (it's the devil, the antichrist, etc). Frankly I didn't even know what Denuvo is, let alone that it is the DRM used in both DOOM and Mad Max. Never had a single issues with both games (no crashes at all), nor had performance drops. I don't care if it needs to be always connected, since we all have internet anywhere all the time now, and it seems to be well made enough to not lock anyone out of their game nor ruin disks (like old DRM used to do in the early 2000s), so I really don't understand the uber bitching I read online about it. Steam is DRM anyway and people embraced it fully ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My connection is solid but that's a horrible tactic, so many ppl have spotty internet that cuts out. And I can't believe they're putting micro-transactions in single player. Even if it is the other mode, it's not right. Definitely waiting for the sales now.

Just read some of the steam reviews.
So they've taken a good game, maybe a great game, and fucked it up with Squeeenix's management and monetization of it. Great. I feel bad for Eidos Montreal, their work is being overshadowed by their shady publisher.

Steam is DRM anyway and people embraced it fully ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As far as I understand it (take this with a grain of salt, please, I'm no expert), Denuvo is not a DRM on its own. Instead, it is a kind of additional safeguard that makes it much harder to get rid of the actual DRM - in this case, Steam. Its performance impact is said to be very minimal, and unlike really shitty DRM like SecuRom, it does not install any extra files on your system. It is integrated into the game's main .exe instead. If you uninstall the game there's nothing left of Denuvo. It was also used in Dragon Age Inquisition, which led to some protests (which I found odd because Origins had a way more intrusive DRM, installing a fuggin EA auhtentication service on your rig) but since it didn't seem to cause any trouble, people eventually stopped talking about it. Not saying that it's a great thing to have, but it could be way worse. Anyone remember StarForce? Good times. Btw, let us know how the game's story is coming along without any spoilers, please? One criticism I read was that the very first mission is really great but the entire rest of the game doesn't hold up to that. What is your opinion on that?

I haven't had any problems with DAI so hopefully DE:MD will be the same then.

Lol I've just read the shitstorm over on the steam reviews.
Glad I didn't break my rule of never preordering anything that isn't made by Bethesda.
There's still a chance I'll buy the game, though on sale at this point. In fact, the only thing that would make me not do that would be if the DRM requires constant internet connection. All the other things I've heard are pretty shady and bad, but all things I can put up with for a game that sounds very good.

Happily most of the complaints aren't about the game itself, so it's still got a lot going for it. I always wait for sales, games are too damn expensive. I've pre-ordered twice. First time was WoW Cataclysm and the damn thing was stuck in the post for a week and I was going insane waiting for it. Then Defense Grid 2, more as a way to support the devs as I got the first game for £3 and played it 3 times. They had struggled to make a sequel so I wanted to throw some money at them. And of course, sod's law, I ended up hating it. I'm gonna pre-order ME:A though....just so that I can play it blind and not get spoilered. Third time lucky??? Anywho DE:HR got discounted quickly iirc, and had great discounts. Hopefully the new game will be the same. I may even wait for the GOTY and focus on Dishonored 2 instead.

It's fairly easy to avoid spoilers if you put your mind to it. Preordering games is bad for everyone BioWare is the one exception, I want to play it asap and then get involved in the chat about it. I avoided DAI for a year, playing DAO and DA2 in the meantime. I didn't visit any DAI threads yet I was still seeing spoilers on the DAO and DA2 boards, even the ME boards had them in. Then youtube videos would pop up in my recommendations with Cassandra dressed as the divine or the title 'Iron Bull's Betrayal' and I was just facepalming so hard. It ruined some of the story for me and I don't want it to happen again. So I'll either pre-order or buy it in the first week of release. Just this once, but never again with any other game.

I don't know if you can go for months without logging online, but who would do that in 2016 anyway?

Not many would go months without being online, but it could be an issue for many. Ppl who don't live in the US/Canada/Europe or other countries with great internet. Those in the countryside with terrible connections, or with dodgy computers who can't afford anything better. Millions of gamers don't live in LA with a best buy round the corner.
