BTW they are apparently making a spin off TV series - a prequel about Benne Gesserit order. Thank you for the info, I did not know that. And it appears that Villeneuve is attached to this as well, so that sounds to me like this could be really cool with the Dune universe offering such a rich world to set stories in.

Les Revenants (The Returned)
French already not new supernatural drama television series, though still watch it from time to time. Do not like everything, no. But the way it is presented, atmosphere, different stories which are connected, excellent actors as well.
Trailer
Music is a seperate thing to mention: Mogwai did a great job.
My favorite

No Time to Die I've seen it twice in IMAX, and it's playing in DC in something called 4DX 3D, so I might just hike down there over this long weekend to find out what the hell that is. No Time To Die is a slickly produced, gorgeous, needlessly convoluted action adventure, with a main protagonist that, though able to compartmentalize his feelings and dispassionately carry out his duty, has gathered some serious emotional baggage over this sequence of movies, and that baggage comes to a head. Unlike previous James Bonds, the version played by Daniel Craig has gotten the girl and ridden off into the sunset a grand total of ONCE in the previous Spectre, so when lines and musical cues from On Her Majesty's Secret Service started to drop in No Time to Die I knew this was headed into some dangerous personal drama. Just to briefly recap some of the more salient plot points from the previous Daniel Craig James Bond films: - In Casino Royale Bond fell in love with Vesper Lynn, and was her lover for *shrug* maybe a few weeks(?) before discovering she was a double agent. Though he eventually understood that she had tried to save him, and was the only reason he survived Mr. White's rescue, he never forgave her betrayal, but tried to move on. Mr. White has a helluva line at the beginning of Quantum of Solace where he says that if she hadn't killed herself, "We would have had you too Mr. Bond, as you would have done anything for her."
- Bond erroneously fingered his other partner Mathis from Casino Royale as a double agent and had him tortured, before realizing he was innocent, but had to hold him in his arms dying when he got him killed after he went rogue in Quantum of Solace. Also, he got embassy clerk Fields killed as well.
- In Skyfall James came face to face with his expendability after he was ordered to leave fellow agents to die to chase a stolen hard drive, and then later when M orders an operative to take a kill shot at that enemy agent, but ends up shooting Bond instead, apparently to his death. And that was just the opening pre-title action sequence.
- Later in Skyfall Bond discovers the results of another of M's ruthless decisions in dealing with an agent, Silva, whose rogue operational behavior seemed (in my mind) creepily similar to Bond's own. This warped Silva into a twisted version himself. And finally he had to cradle M, the only mother figure in his life as she too died in his arms.
- If you haven't noticed the pattern yet, every woman Bond makes love to (in the movies at least) up to Spectre ends up dead.
- Finally we get to Spectre, the most Bondish of Daniel Craig's James Bond films, where he finally captured the head of the nebulous and nefarious Spectre/Quantum business consortium, Blofed, that plagued him in the first two movies. In one of the most ridiculous coincidences this turned out to be James' own foster brother who, if he couldn't kill James, gleefully took pleasure in endlessly torturing him. Aside from that, he finally got the girl and rode off into the sunset.
I'm not going to have spoiler section for previous movies without posting my absolute favorite scene just for lulz: If Spectre seemed overly optimistic compared to the previous 3 movies, then No Time To Die is the logical extension of what would actually happen in the aftermath - a known agent of British Secret Service in love and still hunted by a long list of enemies. Gone are the viciously efficient and conventional plots of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, and we are now firmly in the fantasy evil genius, insane criminal mastermind veins of Skyfall and Spectre. That is my main problem with No Time to Die - we are meant to take James Bond seriously as a person within an escapist and fairly absurd story (I'm pretty sure it all made sense in a storyboard somewhere). Surprisingly it mostly works.

FInally saw this, pretty cliche & mediocre. However the exquisite Andrea Risenborough (Mandy, Possessor) makes this film much easier on the eyes

Watched this a couple of nights ago. I'd read a review that it was 'fun, but unsubtle' - sounds like my kind of thing. Plus, I'm usually not great at predicting where movies will go while watching them (TV shows are different - more time in between reveals etc), so I don't often get bothered by how obvious a film is in its plotting.
This one, though...oof. Credit where it is due; it was fun, of the mindless escapism variety, but fun nonetheless. All three leads are very watchable and pretty effortlessly charismatic. I also enjoyed seeing Gadot play someone with a bit of an edge. It was instantly forgettable, though, and when I have time to analyse AS I'm watching, they've telegraphed the 'twist' - such as it was - far, far too hard.

I once tried to show Fistful of Dollars, Last Man Standing and Yojimbo to my mother in one sitting. Should have shown Yojimbo first, she caught on the second movie and called it quits - Bruce Willis is no Mifune.

I liked it, don’t know if I’ve seen the Director’s Cut, though. How different was it? Additional/extended scenes, alternate takes/camera shots, more development, the score was rearranged (most of the vocals were omitted), more violence/nudity, etc. The theatrical cut is 2:42:44 & the director's cut is 3:16:01. Would also like to point out that two scenes have different pieces of vocal music, for the two Trojan funeral pyre scenes. The music for the two scenes came from Gabriel Yared's rejected score, which is available on Youtube. Also, Danny Elfman's music from the main title sequence of Tim Burton's Planet Of The Apes is used for the fight between Achilles and Hector. It's an odd choice, but it fits.

Anyone watched Dune? Do you enjoy it? I liked it overall. Loved some parts.
It's very much a Dennis Villeneuve film. Beautiful cinematography, slower paced. Acting is good, kind of expected given the cast/cost.
I haven't read the books so I'm not watching it with the "adaption" in mind.

That said, I'm fairly confident saying it's completely different. The first new movie is only Part 1, for instance, and ends at a roughly halfway point.(Insofar as I understand.) The second was greenlit a little while ago, and then he's hoping to finish it with a Third based off Messiah, IIRC.

I love the Neo and Trinity screen couple even though I didn't watch Matrix 2 and 3. I saw the clips an dread about the latter two movies to know what had happened. Now with Matrix Resurrections coming up and with the two actors reprising their roles, I'm sort of anticipating and dreading.

I tried my best to like Resurrections….but I can’t. It’s so slapdash and poorly executed, and frankly, not even my lizard brain had anything to come away with because the action scenes are easily the worst of the entire quadrilogy. Conceptually there are some things I like, but it’s so bogged down by everything else.

Don’t Watch This, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence plus a slew of other people of varying degrees of fame. I think it was billed as satire, but it was utterly lacking in bite. It might have made it as a drama if there weren’t so many farcical elements. This was so disappointing. And I say that from the position of someone who utterly and wholeheartedly endorses the actual message of the film. It might have been better off trying to make it as an out and out comedy, rather than shoot for some esoteric middle ground and missing completely. The one good thing…the characterisations of the US President and her Chief of Staff. Jonah Hill must’ve borrowed some qualuudes (spelling?) from the set of the Wolf of Wall Street. And that Meryl Streep…so underrated. When will she get the acclaim she deserves?
