Hidy ho all,
I just got done with DAO, and imported that save into 2. And having a side by side comparison, it feels like the devs wanted it to be more 'action packed' or something. Having the enemies constantly spawn by dropping in when you've killed most of the original party, or come up from the ground.
Thats not to say its not compelling. Quite the opposite in fact.
Even still, in DAO, you had a set number of enemies you had to fight and kill. Some were stronger then others. But you didn't have to worry about re-enforcement's normally. In 2, I'll get done with a wave, think 'oh good, I'm done' then look up at the mini map and sigh inwardly because more enemies spawned on the other side of the battlefield.
Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I the only one?

Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I the only one? I thought DA2 was the best blend of DAO and more action (sort of DAI). I was a rogue in DAO twice before I went to the Rogue of DA2 so I had some experience of that class before trying a new way. And as someone who was not an expert on gaming combat, it was noticeable how much I enjoyed the combat better in DA2. I especially loved flying across the screen with back stab and the fact that I didn't have to gether ingredients to have a confusion flask. <--- I never bother with making traps or gathering ingredients for anything not absolutely needed, so the fact I got it by default gave me an aspect of the game play I miss out in both other games. Yet, we still maintained the tactics control of the AI and I miss it sorely in DAI. We also had access to other skills on the Wheel, something I definitely infinitely miss in DAI. However, none of that is re spawning hordes falling from the sky, melting up from the ground, or literally just materializing right next to where I'm standing. Also, the game made it a little too easy for AOE attacks; the initial horde almost always was in a group together. To get knocked into confusion with a flask or fireballed to pieces. It sure was nice to feel so powerful that Instadeath of ten could happen, but still.

I enjoyed DA2 combat more than DA:O's or DA:I's combat.

I feel like what you're talking about in OP is encounter system, not combat system. When I think about combat system, I think about skills, tactics and, eventually, how it's all presented. So whichever you meant, I'll answer for both. Encounter system was better in DAO. I didn't mind spawning mobs in DA2, but didn't like respawning mobs in DAI. I hated DAO's combat. There were some cool skills (Mana Clash ), but how everything was executed... not so much. Well, tactics were ok. My favourite combat system must be DA2.

Hm, seems like I'm in the minority then. Though I freely admit that it could be the whole game may be getting me down, and I'm finding something to gripe out (IE the encounter system). And Yes, I def meant the encounter system. Though I didn't realize it at the time, thanks for clearing that up for me.
One of the things I like about Origins encounters, were you knew right off the bat, who you were facing. There was none of this enemy spawning, that 2 is doing. Its making the combat, feel (at least to me) like its a chore more then anything else.

Eh, I felt likes mages were too under-powered for my tastes in DAI, and I didn't really like the tactical system.
I've gotta say, all games have bad game-play. But DA2's Hawke 'I'm a chicken on fire' dance (Or more like attack moves) was very distracting and I didn't feel like I was in a strategy based game in DA2 due to that.

The thing I really missed from the combat system of DA:O was the tactics... I used to play a rogue, and I had him with a set of different tactics for different situations, then moved on to control my mages instead, and it worked very well. At other times I played a mage and had to wait to get Zevran and have him do all the tactics. In DA2 and DA:I there are no real tactics, which means I have to move back and forth between characters to get the tactic I wanted.
Other than that, I much preferred the stream-lined DA2 combat.

I loved the fighting speed in Dragon Age 2. I feel like i'm swinging through mud when fighting in DAI.
