I finished the quest line with Ulrich and captured the renegade noble. Based on dialogue with Racek, I presume the infamous monastery quest comes right after this? I will pray for all of your souls. I'm sure it's gonna be fun!

Remember, you can opt for the brutal option in the monastery. One of the guys IS guilty. God will recognise the correct one of those you deliver...

Any supernatural elements? Not really. There's a sequence in a side quest where you hallucinate a bunch of stuff, but nothing supernatural is actually happening. The bushes being almost completely impassable barriers is pretty supernatural, too.

Yeah this game is largely historical fiction rather than fantasy. The closest to magic you get is the alchemy skill, which basically let's you make booze with healing properties and/or stat buffs.

No actual supernatural things, yes.
But at the same time, supernatural things get enough mentions. They're just always explained as plain old human believing something that's not true, in a realistic fashion.

Well, my review was finally published. Overall, a deeply flawed game that I felt like it fell apart towards the middle, and barely recovered some of its momentum. Let me know what you think. Note some minor spoilers in the review (mostly stuff talked about in this thread)

Note some minor spoilers in the review (mostly stuff talked about in this thread) It is a flawed game. But I am curious to see where Warhorse goes from here with a sequel. I think this could be a great game with a bit more refinement. I'm still in the monastery part of the game, so my impression may not be accurate based on what's to come. But story-wise, I think they're trying to fit a story and a half into a single game. I can totally believe that this is actually the first TWO entries into a trilogy: Henry's origin story, and his adventures as Sir Radzig's squire. The problem is, the second story isn't as fleshed out as the first. I get the impression some stuff has been left out, either cut for time or being held for a follow-up. In particular, the relationship between Sir Radzig and Henry's father never seemed to be properly addressed. And I suspect it was a huge factor in Henry's meteoric rise in status.

It doesn't really get addressed by the tail end either, at least not to a satisfying conclusion. I can say that much at least.

Note some minor spoilers in the review (mostly stuff talked about in this thread) If looked on with a focus on the narration that is quite what I'd say. I focus on the free roaming and open world aspects where the story falls short. Overall it offers less what a Bethesda game does in this category, though, but it's overall am enjoyable game if the story aspects doesn't bother a player too much.

I don't know about Bethesda since I don't play their games (except ESIV Oblivion) but I'm of the same mind; roaming about and picking up SQs which I didn't do in the first PT. I was looking forward to encounters this time round but the devs ended up removing them.

Some of these guards are apparently telepathic or something since they're raising the alarm in a completely different area when a guard sees me for even a nanosecond and doesn't even yell out for help or anything.

Yeaaaah, I can see a connection there...
See, Vavra, a looong time ago, worked on Mafia...
That said, it serves a narrative purpose that makes it all fit together, in both cases. I'm not angry. The claustrophobic feeling actually added some juice to that part of the game, and I found myself that much closer to Henry.

The claustrophobic feeling actually added some juice to that part of the game, and I found myself that much closer to Henry. I would disagree with that heavily. The race in Mafia served no narrative purpose, but arguably all the missions in Mafia save for the last 6 or so didn't because all it was, in the end, was a vignette-styled point of view of the Mafia world from outsiders. The Monastery they tied it to the main quest, but they could have easily put Pious into a different circumstance that was not separate from the outside world. Hell, they could have just had you join the gang through some other means without it by that point, have you go and kill some random folks to prove your willing to do anything. It would just take a simple rewrite for Kingdom Come...something the game kind of needed at points frankly.

Plus the monastery is a few hours of just tedium, frustration and boredom if you try to do it the stealthy way and go along with the plan to get out and not kill anyone. It's just dull and unenjoyable.
