Our Wardens and their companions are awesome and all, but have you ever had a moment during one of your gaming experiences when you had an awing sense of respect for one of the heroes? I usually like my life easy and play normal mode, but I figured I’d do one Origins run on nightmare and obviously picked a class I’m best at playing, which would be the mage. Mages are good most of the game, except for those charming moments at the tower when you run into bucketfuls of Templars who cast ‘drain all your mana in a flash, stun for a long combat period and if you live through that shield bash and stab your squishy self’ spell. Well, there is that one room on the upper floor with a demon that blasts your party silly off their feet as soon as you peel the door a crack open and then six Templars jump out to chop you into salami. In any case on nightmare – mage vs Templar equals dead mage. I had Wynn and myself in the party. Oh and lets not forget Leliana who dies in one hit hence I fail at rogue and at most of my aspirations can turn one into a decent lock picker. Somehow through a strenuous effort my ambushed crew of the do-gooders managed to tear down the demon before both mages and the rogue kicked the bucket, which left wounded Alistair (dressed in a warden commander suit and armed with that sword that has one slot) alone in the company of a six pissed off Templars in health ranging 90-25%. I rolled my eyes to the Maker and mentally steeled myself for wiping the floor to an epic shine with my mages during the next forty attempts to deal with that room. Except… Alistair Won. I felt like I’ve experienced the perspective of one of those bug-eyed Ferelden civilians when they see a Warden fight off the impossible odds to save their sorry hide. Our heroes are suppose to do all that juicy arse whooping, but still – Alistair, you’re my HERO. (Epilogue: and I'm going to log into my parallel game where I'm plotting to marry you with a Cousland and get you into the tent for uh... demonstration of the heroics appreciation. //brick'd by Templars)

My dw rogue warden took Alistair, Wynne, and LI Zevran along for the Battle of Denerim. At least three times Alistair is in the middle of a mass of grunts, Wynne is trading firepower with emissaries, I'm trying to weaken/take down who I can, and Zev is doing his thing.
Once I got knocked down by an ogre - just as he was about to squash me, Zev jumps out of nowhere and "epic" kills it. Then at least twice more during the battle I can see an ogre coming up behind me while I'm engaged with a couple other darkspawn. Each time before I even have time to react and turn around to fight back or move out of the way, there's Zev already on it's back epic killing it.
He got at least 3 or 4 epic ogre kills that day (plus another one back at Redcliff) - each right before the thing was going to try and squish his warden.
Then to top it off: Wynne gets KO on the rooftop, Zevran's getting low on HP, Alistair and I aren't doing too bad. Who do you think uses the last of his reserves to take out the archdemon? Yup, my "I can't pick a lock but apparently can kick butt when it counts" boyfriend. (Okay, I know technically the warden needs to take the final blow, but you know what I mean).
And to think I actually thought about leaving him at the city gates in favor of another warrior.

@soke What is it about wanting your BF on the rooftop with you that makes it so irresistible to do. I always take them along. XD
heh I take it I'm not the only one who is amused that Zev is in fact bad at lock picking in spite of his claims at quick hands. But... I guess he needs those hands for ahem other purposes.

adonniel : I know right? (Spoiler tag because don't want to fill thread with too much off-topic... Honestly I think probably the only time my canon Warden didn't take Zev with her was the time between the encounter with Taliesan and when he rescued her from Fort Drakon (they were both hurt and/or confused during that time frame, and hardly in the same room let alone the same mission). She almost did leave him and Dog at the gate so they could keep each other safe. But like you said, there's just something about bringing the LI to the rooftop... She also that he would have her back like none of the other companions would (and damn did he ever ) Come to think of it, I think the only time my canon Hawke didn't take Fenris with her was during Merrill's personal quests (those were "Girls day out" with Aveline and Isabella, because Varric seemed to hate the outdoors and Fen and Anders were both asses towards Merrill), and for a little bit after he left her in Act 2. Meanwhile my poor Inquisitor was like "what do you mean Cullen can't come with me?!?" Is it sad that she considered the assault on Adamant a sort-of date? And as for Zev's lock-picking "skills": Yeah, we're not the only ones, lol

I almost always bring Zev to the rooftop whether he's a LI or friend. In fact, it was funny during a recent playthrough when I didn't. It must have been the first time I didn't because when it switched over to "Defend The Gates" I panicked for a second because he was using a bow, not the sword and dagger I had given him. I was like "Where's his stuff???"and then I found out that for some reason it switches his weapon set to a bow for "Defend The Gates". I never equipped him with a bow, for starters, but it caught me off guard. I never had any party member switch sets on me like that before unless I set their tactics to do so.

i respect all of them, even the ones i don't like, tho of all companions, i only dislike one but it's not entirely that, just complicated to explain.
hard to say a epic or wow moment with them, but i liked a lot the party banter of return to ostagar if you bring Alistair, Wynne and your dog. (the dog mainly if your are a Cousland but i didn't try the dog you obtain for saving him in the other origins)
it shows how dire and how bad ended all there, but they get the chance of payback and then mourn and still have to carry on with their lives.

I watched a video of that and it was pretty funny! I always do Return To Ostagar as soon as I can for the gear, I couldn't imagine waiting that late in the game to do it. I'm always thankful for those who make these videos so I can see the different outcomes without having to do it. I have spared Loghain before, so it's not so much that, it's more that I want to make use out of the nice gear you get as soon as I am able to.

Try bringing Loghain and Wynne to Ostagar. It is priceless I love the banter between Zev and Loghain when Zev reports his "progress" on the job to kill the wardens I love everything Zev says, though his 'progress report' is one of my favourites. Insufficient lock picking or not, I enjoying towing him along just because he's usually the conversation initiator with your other party members. heh That pic you've posted is pricelessly true. Finvola I actually began doing the opposite just because your characters need to level up before they can wear Cailan's armour and it takes up space in the inventory. That area, however, isn't that high level. So, it does need to be addressed sooner. First time, I went to Ostagar right after Soldier's Peak. But, waiting just to recruit Loghain for his commentary seems too long to wait to do that area or in fact any area.

I agree, I think it would be silly to wait that long to do it. Even if I get Cailan's armor too early for the warden or a companion to wear it, somebody can at least use Maric's Blade or Duncan's sword, and of course there's the Corrupted Magister's Staff. I do Soldier's Peak before Ostagar so I have a place to store whatever can't be used yet so that helps. I like doing it between main quests because it gives me a chance to level up before doing the next one, so if my companions can't quite use the armor, they will soon enough. I almost always give it to Alistair. If I had to choose between DLC armor sets for my warden, I always go with the Warden Commander set. Depending on how soon I get it, I might tier it up before Wade's armor sets become available.
I love Zev too, if I am not a rogue myself, I give him lock picking abilities. Like in my last save I was an Arcane Warrior, so I just gave him all the physical tomes and boosted his lock pick skill. I brought both him and Leliana along until he was able to pick the high level locks himself. If I am a rogue then I pick the locks and still bring him along for the laughs. He's quite sturdy and I think he can hold his own as good as any warrior. I don't play as a warrior that often, so I'm either a mage or a DW rogue. I play on Normal, but my next save will be Hard, so I will soon find out if having two rogues in my lineup will be feasible.
Apart from that one time, I have never not had Zev in my lineup for the Archdemon fight. It was funny because usually I find Sten to be completely and utterly useless but in that particular save he was indestructible and slicing through everything. I gave him the Butterfly Sword that time, first time trying it. I tiered it up to 7 and there was no stopping him with that thing. My warden in that save was a Dwarf Noble DW rogue. I had never taken Sten to the rooftop before so I decided to bring him. Although she got along with Alistair, she left him at the gates and took Sten, Morrigan, and Wynne. My opinion of Sten's abilities changed. Whatever I did to him that time made him my preferred warrior for a good portion of the game.

Not really, considering that the equipments, training as well as tactics and decisions were all made by me I would say that companions aren't remakable people,a-side from the rogues, they are really helpful.

There was this one moment, while dealing with the Archdemon. Morrigan gets KO'ed pretty quickly, which was pretty inconvenient, her ice spells were a lifesaver when it came to making sure to dragons holding still. So it's just my character, Alistair and Zevran (whom my character had romanced in the meantime). We put up a good fight, the Archdemon has a sliver of health - but so does my character. In the weirdest timing, just as my character got KO'ed too, Zevran jumps and kills the Archdemon. I had a big grin on my face throughout the whole end cut-scene and I never felt more proud of him.

Considering that having Morrigan there implicates allowing her to save and therefore possess the spirit of that monster,I really don't miss her in Denerim, especially when Warden is trainend well and is strong enough to accomplish everything on their own.

Can't say I missed her either in Denerim, but I had to kick her ass up to the eluvian the very hard/deadly way since she steal the Warden's equipment before the battle, equipment that doesn't belong to her because I bought it. I don't care if she walks naked on the streets so long as she give me what is mine or either pay the consequences.

It's very annoying, because if you follow that path you lose your gears and two characters. It's kind of annoying how they haven't made a payoff yet to justify this path, but instead insisted in DAI at increasing the discrepance between these two choices by giving more resources for the fade scene.

I'm one of those people who automatically takes my current pt's cutie-patootie on every mission and battle. I think there have maybe been a handful of times where my Warden was more practical, but that took a few pt's before I reached that state.
It's not during a battle, but one of my wow moments is when Shale crushes the chicken as they leave Honnleith.

Was doing one of the quests for Slim - the one were you rob Lady Sophie at the tavern. Before I went to her room to commit the theft, I set my companions to hold. I purposely position Zev right in front of her guard and said "here, you distract her". As I was sneaking to her room, I could hear the conversation between Zevran and Wynne start up - the one where he asks her if Ferelden mages dance naked under the moonlight before having an orgy. I just started laughing thinking "Yup, that'll work. Good job Zev".

That line from Isabela: Apostate Prostitutes? Apostitutes!
I didn't like her visual design ( as with most BW chars lately), but she was awesome: her personality, banter, relationships with other companions.
Way, way better character than anyone in series.

Leliana, epic killing an Ogre, in slow motion...
... while extremely scantily clad.
