Myself, Terrell Campbe11, 3y3Vr3 and occasionally various other players joining in the 4th slot have for awhile now been playing games where we impose some variety of special rules limiting what classes, abilities, gear, etc. are allowed. Some of these are intended to make the game more challenging, some are just meant to generate some wild and crazy fun by forcing us to play in some ridiculous way (various videos, screenshots and recountings of some of these games may have surfaced in other threads).
We done games with rules such as:
1) Everyone must play a Rogue who has & regularly uses an ability like Hook & Tackle or Gangway, with everyone routinely shooting all over the map.
2) Everyone plays a Pact-belted mage, excluding Saarebas and Virtuoso so Barrier cannot be constantly spammed. (plus a variation: Pact-belted mage using Inquisition armor & weapons)
3) Everyone has & continually uses Charging Bull or Hakkon's Charge.
4) Everyone plays Archers using no ability other than Leaping Shot
5) Everyone plays a character (typically Alchemist) never using any ability other than some sort of mine
6) Everyone plays an Alchemist using only abilities other than mines
7) Everyone uses a ridiculous weapon like the Ham or Spoon
Most of these were played on Nightmare (except the Inquisition gear one, which was done to see if it could make Threatening actually challenging for players with our promotions), which was often rather difficult. Some ideas that were suggested but that we have not gotten around to using yet involved everyone playing Necromancers blowing up & spirit marking everything in sight, playing Saarebas using only unusual, rarely seen abilities like the Wall, playing Katari using no HOK. Since we are getting near to the end of our initial wave of ideas, however, last night the three of us were brainstorming some new ones, and I thought this would be a convenient reference for what we came up with, as well as allowing others to suggest similar ideas or otherwise join in the fun, if they wish.
Some of our new ideas:
1) Avvar that does not use Lady's Wrath or Crushing Leap (possibly other limitations) and thus is forced to rely on the more rarely seen abilities of this class
2) Lego using only offensive abilities, no guard generating or otherwise defensive ones
3) Every character uses Grappling Chain continuosly (could possibly be combined with the Lego one above)
4) Everyone plays Archer/Hunter using only Full Draw in conjunction with Tezpadam's Bane
5) Play Archers who do not use Opportunity Knocks
6) No one can use Drakescale/Purple 15 armors and/or no one can use Hakkons (i.e., either weapon or armor or both must be sub-par)
7) Play Arcane Warriors with Frost or Fire pact belt
8) Play Elementalists with Electric or Frost pact belt
9) Several Virtuosos all using different damage songs (Cool Beats, Power Chord, Hot Licks) or alternatively all using Cool Beats only

Thanks for the summary rogueknight About our new ideas: 1) I never paid attention to Avvar's less frequently used abilities since I've always been using the "one and only" Avvar build. Now I look at them more carefully, he actually has some interesting skills other than Lady's Wrath and Crushing Leap. E.g. upgraded Flurry of Storms can reflect projectiles! I'm also tempted to replace Hakkon's Charge with Chilling Tremor as the ice trigger for Korth's Might. Or forget about the elemental effects just play him as a pure warrior by using Grappling Chains, Pommel Strike, Rage of the Avvar etc. (This may end badly though ) War Horn would be nice for trolling purpose in this particular experiment. Blow War Horn right before other Avvars are ready to smash group of mobs nearby so they all run and scatter in panic 2) If no guard generating abilities are allowed, only 4 options are left: Payback Strike, Lunge and Slash, Shield Bash and Grappling Chains. I'll probably put all the remaining points into damage resistance passives and essentials like Flow of Battle, Bear Mauls The Wolves. These don't count as defensive skills right? 3) I wonder what would happen if we all use Grappling Chains to grab a certain target at the same time...Mush try this on Despair Demon given the chance 4) 5) could possibly be combined together no? I'm not sure whether the game graphics can handle it if we spam Full draw non-stop with Tezpadam's Bane exploding everything. 6) There are several unique weapons I want to try. Like putting Certainty on Katari to whirlwind like Samson, or the staff Yavanalis that generates guard on mages...... Using sub-par gears won't change game-play as wildly as other ideas. Essentially it just puts us backward on promotion, making NM more challenging than playing with hakkons/top notched armor. Most importantly I think it would encourage teamwork which requires everyone to coordinate their movements and attacks as a whole. I find it a little sad when people all run off into different directions even in NM because they can survive on their own. Sometimes things die so fast that there are few chances for a nice old-fashioned combo I like promotions too, but what makes the game most fun for me is still the cross-class collaborations 7) 8) AW doesn't have too many offensive powers based on fire or ice...I guess one option is to use fade step as often as possible with winter pact belt...might as well switch to heart of despair to boost basic attack and resistance to physical damage. Elementalist, by contrast, seems to have some choices with either winter or storm pact belt. I'm planning to try Lightning Bolt and Energy Barrage with storm pact belt. Not sure if they can self-combo as Winter's Grasp and Stone Fist do? 9) A more detailed explanation on my original idea: Each Zither! focuses on songs mainly in one elemental branch. E.g. one virtuoso takes A Little Knight Music, Bolstering Ballad and Cool Beats. Another takes Battle of The Band, Sing Along and Power Cord. The third takes Mark of the Rift, Hot licks...Add any passives that you see necessary. Or we can all build our Zither! free-style with only one rule: Everyone must use Cool Beats most of the time. A few more ideas that have been floating around: 10) Everyone plays Duelist who all use KeelHaul to chain as many enemies as possible. 11) Someone play squishy characters like Alchemist or Assassin without using Stealth. A Templar must use Body Guard to take damage for them. Lego or Katari utilizing To The Death whose increasing damage taken would be transferred to Templar will also spice things up I suppose. 12) Everyone plays a character who can self-revive: Ele, necro, archer etc. We can try fading then resurrecting ourselves over and over...just to see how strong the enemies could become in the end 13) lcneed has suggested, and I quote "I want to set up a 4 reavers dancer axes NM match. Everyone in the reaver starting outfit and can only use basic spinning attacks and ring of pain and no one is allowed to use any heal pot. Since we are not using any stamina, ring of pain won't cause us anything. The low armor will increase damage... so it will be 4 whirlwinds of death (their deaths.. or ours!)"

Well , reading above, Archers have to play without Opportunity Knocks, so Saarebas have to play without ring.
That's the rules.
I got to zone 5 Heartbreaker doing this without ring or barrier. The trouble with 4 people though is you're not guaranteed the HoK. It will get rough haha
EDIT: I used 40% HoK

All these are good if you could set it up with good communication with other members.... except Bioware sees to it that it will not happen on the PC by taking away the chat rooms option!

I haven't be able to find someone else to try it out yet. I just type to myself and tested it. I can't find the option to switch to female voice though.

LOL To be serious it's a cool function. I could test it with you when we have the chance. Can't imagine what it will sound like if there're multiple people using it. Robots chatting together maybe? BTW they do have a mobile version for discord. If you prefer you can text chat on your phone instead

Why do you need to switch to female voice? LOL Because it is weird to have a guy telling you things. I switch to female voice on all my GPS directions in car or on phone too. Although I have heard the opposite. Someone once told me that it is "wrong" to have a woman giving you direction (referring to my female voiced GPS in the car).

Someone once told me that it is "wrong" to have a woman giving you direction (referring to my female voiced GPS in the car). It really depends. I have better sense of direction than some of my male friends. We always get lost when I follow them But there are also others who are better than me at navigation.

That would mean I would not be good for the "No OK" runs. OK is what affords me the plethora of "death by bleeding".

Liking the idea of limiting weapons to only lvl 23 weapons, and lower. Give everyone a reason to play some of those old favorites, when that was the best you had. Pairing it with only white/blue armor, would also up the fun....maybe?

1) The Avvar actually has some abilities that are rather interesting but that one never sees used because they are not as good as the standard ones. One of the reasons I thought that might be an interesting challenge. 2) I was not counting defensive passive, just active abilities. I am not sure how it would even be possible to build a Lego with no defensive passives, he has them all over the place. 3) IIRC correctly TTD does not generate Guard without the upgrade, so one could use that as a 4th ability instead of Grappling Chain, which might be interesting. There are other classes with Grappling Chain too, so serhaps not a good idea to combine them. 4-5) combining is possible, though they are somewhat different kinds of ideas, one to increase the challenge and one for general craziness 6) Yeah, it really opens the door to experimenting with some rarely used weapons with some interesting capabilities. 7-8) With Elementalist in particular, it might be good to have some players using the Cold belt and other the Electric Belt, easier to cope with monsters with immunities that way. Also a good to note that with Ele you can make Energy Barrage do any type of damage depending on the staff used. 9) Player using Hot Licks will not be doing much damage compared to the other 2 probably, but it is not as if these ideas were about optimizing DPS or something 10) Certainly doable, though perhaps kind of similar to some of our others. 11) I like this one, opens the door to a very unusual ways to play both Assassin and Templar 12) What happens if we play well enough self-revival is not necessary? Aside from Necro, it is hard to self-revive reliably too, though that might be part of the challenge 13) Whirlwinds of Death can certainly be added to the list 14) "NIGHTMARE/HEARTBREAKER EXPLODATHON! " - as for this I suppose we could try Ring and non-Ring variations

I will never be the highest promote person, or the person finished all the challenges (as I don't play some agents), or the player with the most skills (or any skills at all), but I will die with the most toys. I have collected all purple things and all ability rings since day one. I think I have the full collection. Oh yeah? You have 1000 more willpower than me? Sure.. but do you have the Greatsword of Peon? No? Okay.

I am planning to run some of my rogues thru routine many many times to finish their challenges and see if I could pick up any low level ones I missed the first time.

No abilities spamming or the super power of Hakkon bow. So perhaps not these 2 at once... 9) Maybe the player using hot licks can also pick other offensive powers as they see fit 11) I saw a pug using Body Guard in FC with the escort event going on. Templar's health plunged while Captian was sound and safe following her. Does that mean she can also take damage for the Captain? Maybe aggro was not on Captain at all and Templar lost health fast only because her armor/promotion was low...Nevertheless Body Guard would be something interesting to try with other players 12) Well I haven't really thought this one through...wear inferior armor so we could die more easily probably?...Like you said their self-reviving is hard to control except necro. Possible way off the top of my head is to leave as much mines/traps as possible at spawn/choke points where enemies will gather. We may have to lure them to such places after planting the traps. For Ele I suppose he'll have to use DoT skills whenever they're available. Liking the idea of limiting weapons to only lvl 23 weapons, and lower. Give everyone a reason to play some of those old favorites, when that was the best you had. Pairing it with only white/blue armor, would also up the fun....maybe? Love that one! Never got a chance to use Long Bow of the Griffon either
